I came here with friends on a snowy day over the holidays for some delicious pierogis. My friend wanted to try this place as she passes by it a lot and the fruit / sweet pierogis were unique. Seating was minimal - they had about 2 tables with 4 chairs each and some stools and side seating. Ordering was quick and easy and they have different sets too. We ordered a bit of everything to share amongst us 4. Everything was delicious but I especially loved the kielbasa. the outer skin was so crisp and it was overall juicy when you bit down with enough flavor. We got the beet salad with it and the slight tartness of the beets really complements the whole meal. We noticed they were super busy with take out and phone orders. Cute little place with authentic tastes and smells coming out of the tiny kitchen! We stopped by on Saturday. The store is set up as -- half polish grocer and half restaurant. There are several pierogi's to choose from as well as full plates, with sausage, salad and potato. My wife ordered 6 of the cheddar cheese pierogi (boiled) and I order 6 of the farmer cheese (fried). Both were served with sauerkraut and sour cream... and honestly each of them were awesome! After lunch, we grabbed some of the fresh pierogi's from the cooler to take home. Pierogis are so fresh and delicious every time my boyfriend and I get takeout from Rosa-Ly. The onions are chopped so finely...for someone who hates chunky onions, these are perfectly sautéed and almost caramelized without being burnt. They melt in your mouth. The woman working behind the counter was welcoming and so patient, explaining all of their options to me as a first time customer. I went with the kielbasa and six pierogi plate, three farmer cheese and three mushroom/sauerkraut. They topped it with fried onions and added a healthy dollop of sour cream to the plate. The pierogis are pure pillowy perfection! I want to keep trying the rest of their flavors. The kielbasa was so good! They make slices in a high quality kielbasa sausage and pan fry it. ***3 1/2 stars*** My history with pierogis is a little embarrassing - literally into adulthood, I assumed all pierogis were like the weird, rubbery concoctions from my middle school cafeteria. It was mind-blowing to me that they could actually be delicious, a noble addition to the same genre in my mind as empanadas and dumplings. I don't have a ton of experience with them, but the best I've had was from my chum's Polish mother-in-law, who made cheese ones for a backyard birthday party and I accidentally ate most of the inventory. These were good, but not to the level of the birthday pierogis. The worst part of this experience by far is/was the location. It's on a very weird, awkward section of 46 West that's just past the Clinton Rd. intersection, so to my knowledge the only way to get back onto 46 East is to go all the way into Montville for the next U-turn, or to do what I did, which was to actually go onto 80 East in Montville back home, bypassing 46 East entirely. It's a terrible spot (but seriously - if anyone has a better idea, I'd love to hear it). There are a few parking spots right in front of Rosa-Ly's, but when I showed up at lunchtime on Friday they were all occupied so I had to drive behind the building and park there. Not a big deal but it IS a little claustrophobic on the side alley sections heading in and out of that back lot - if I had a bigger vehicle, this could have been rough. This definitely isn't intended as an insult, but the interior reminds me a lot of a genre-specific bodega, if that makes sense. I was expecting more of a casual restaurant, but there were a lot of Polish grocery items for sale off to the sides. Thankfully there were also quite a few indoor seating options (and a table or two outside) so I was able to easily order and secure a spot nearby while I waited for my pierogis to come out. I went with the Potato & Farmer Cheese six-piece option ($8.95), since I already had a pleasant cheese pierogi experience under my belt. They were clearly made to order/fresh, and a woman from the kitchen delivered them to my table within about five minutes or so. (Both her and the woman at the counter separately confirmed if I wanted the sour cream/sauteed onions that traditionally accompany the dish, which I declined each times - nice touch.) In hindsight, I think I would have gone with a more mainstream cheese, since the Farmer was a little tangier than I preferred (I like a standout taste, but it was a LITTLE too standout-ish). Lesson learned. Overall though it was tasty and by no means a bad pierogi. Given that you're provided with six of these, I thought the price point was legit/competitive. The service was mostly good. My direct interactions with both woman were perfectly fine but (and this could just be me - it's entirely possible nobody else would be bothered by this) there was a customer at a nearby table who told the waitress that he hadn't gotten what he ordered. I didn't see the prior interactions to know how legitimate that claim was, but when the woman returned to the counter area, she and the other employee rolled their eyes and made a few muttered comments between themselves. It may have been an entirely deserved reaction, but it shouldn't happen in front of any other customers. Perfectly decent experience - if this were in a more convenient location, I'd be more inclined to come back for return visits. In the meantime, I'll keep trying to hit up backyard birthday parties. read more

There aren't that many places where you can get fantastic pierogies in northern NJ, but I found one in Fairfield. I stopped in at Rosa-Ly for lunch and it was excellent! I went for an order of 6, split up with 3 sauerkraut/mushroom, and 3 cheddar, bacon, and potatoes. The order is served with sour cream and onions. What a different, but delicious lunch! You can do takeout or dine in here. I stayed and there's plenty of seating. Parking is easy in front or in back. If you're looking for this Polish delicacy, give it a try. Grew up eating grandparents' homemade pierogies and homemade kielbasa so I had already came in with very high standards to compare against. Wow! They do not disappoint! You place your order at counter and they bring it to your table when ready. Keep in mind there are only about 3-4 tables inside and a few outside in the front. Enjoyed potato & farmer's cheese pierogies with sour cream and kraut with kielbasa. So tasty I had to bring home another order to freeze for dinner during week. The cheese pierogies are excellent too! Next time I will try the mushroom ones as these are all variations I grew up eating! The kielbasa is not commercial store brands as it's true homemade. There is a huge difference in texture and flavor as I simply cannot get a package of Hillshire. Check out that kielbasa sandwich! Full disclaimer: even though I settled down with a gal from Polonia (and have had more than my fair share of pierogi over the years) - I still have a soft spot for the frozen brand, Mrs. T's. (But let's keep that between ourselves or my mother-in-law will flip out!) This place leans on the tiny-side... a few tables and a counter. (Thankfully most of the steady traffic coming-and-going were 'to go' orders - so we found a spot to sit.) It's on the highway - so pulling in/out can be a bit clunky. It feels like your classic (American) luncheonette, but instead of 'impulse buying' options at the front counter (like gum and chips) - you have imported/dried mushrooms and chruściki. The menu consisted of all the classics (from barszcz to gołąbki) with a slew of different pierogi (savory to sweet) to pick from. The official verdict: the food is delicious. Probably not something you could/should/would eat all that regularly (at least not at my age) - but was damn good and for about $15 per person (including a drink) we left full and happy. One issue: it did seem to take a wee bit longer than expected to get our meals. (Especially when people coming after us got their stuff well ahead of us.) A small storefront on the side of a very busy road filled with Polish treats. As someone who is dairy free I was sad that I couldn't eat anything there. However, the woman at the counter went back to the kitchen to ask if there was anything that was made dairy free and there was! I got 6 pirogies for about 10 dollars. You get to choose up to two flavors. I chose strawberry and blueberry. They put powdered sugar on top. I've never had a sweet pirogi so I didn't know what to expect. However, it was incredible. The pierogis here were delicious. I saw this small place driving by and immediately knew I had to stop it because it's not often you find a dedicated pierogi store. I ordered 6 pierogis, 3 were the potato and farmers cheese and the other 3 were supposed to be potato, cheddar, bacon and jalapeño. I'm pretty certain the ones that came out were the pulled pork ones, but regardless they were all great. I tried my sisters too, she got strawberry and blueberry. Between my partner and I we tried four kinds of pierogi - the meat, sauerkraut and mushroom, potato cheese and bacon, and jalapeño potato cheese and bacon. Hunter stew was like soft cooked shredded cabbage with some Mushrooms and other goodies that went well with the crunchy fried pork cutlet. We were here at 10 am on a Monday, and let me tell you- that's when you know it's the real deal. My goodness. I've been here god knows how many times but it was the first time I brought my Polish friend here recently, and she approved that it was authentic!! In the past I've tried and enjoyed a bunch of great flavors including the traditional potato farmer but I also LOVE the mushroom sauerkraut one. It sounds weird but it tastes incredible. It tastes great as boiled and/or fried as I've had it both ways.. My only qualms is that they close too early on Saturdays and they're not open on Sundays, but I know they don't need to overextend themselves because they're doing great. I like how they sell frozen selections as well and it's always friendly and efficient service when I go. Wow - these are the best pierogies I have ever had! They're tender and full of deliciousness! I tried the regular potato and onion, and they were light and creamy - and the outside was not too thin - not too thick. I also tried the mushroom and sauerkraut. Yeah, I know, mushroom and sauerkraut - sounds like a weird combination. Don't knock it until you've tried it. I liked these even better than the potato and onion. I got them pan-fried - and I would highly suggest always doing the pan-fried option ($1 extra for 6 pierogies if you want them pan fried after they are boiled). There were lots of other great things in the shop, but since it was only me - I could only try so much this time. I guess I will just have to come back again :) Oh, and I couldn't resist getting a dozen of those two flavors to bring home to freeze! This little storefront on busy Route 46 is not to be missed. Too bad they aren't open on Sundays - that's the day I am normally up that way. But this place is definitely worth going out of your way. The pierogi here are off the charts delicious! $8 a dozen for Fresh Homeade Pierogi, fresh varieties include Potato and cheddar l, potato and onion, Meat, and sauerkraut. By far the meat were my absolute favorite, the potato were very good but the meat ones were seasoned perfectly. I took them home and fried them, added sour cream and hot sauce once out of the pan.....deeeelllliicccious If you are in the area I cannot recommend this place enough. While I took them home to heat they do have a handful of tables where you can sit and eat a plate, the prices are super reasonable and the staff is great. I have driven past this place for years. Who knew to stop and buy? $7 for a bag of pierogi. Lots of choices. Again based on Yelp, chose mushroom with sauerkraut and potato with onions. And like another Yelper wrote, the mushroom sauerkraut one may sound odd, but is really tasty. We pan fried with a little olive oil and butter, then served with dollops of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Absolutely delicious. It is a little hole in the wall gem. You can eat there too. We are Slavic (Russian & Ukrainian) and a lot of our food is exactly the same as Polish food. I am aware of the big Polish community in NJ so I knew I had to try this place. We recently moved away from our family in Cali so this would give us a piece of home with authentic dishes. We ordered 2 cheese blintzes ($3.95), Pielmeni siberian style (18 pcs, $7.95) and potato/farmer cheese pierogi (12 pcs, $9.95). Dining in isn't an option so we just waited to get our order and ate at home. I will note that we were not asked if we wanted whipped cream or apple sauce with the blintzes (as stated on the menu). We actually didn't get any "sauce" with the blintzes. Also we weren't asked if we wanted onions or tomato sauce on the pielmeni and were given the tomato sauce by default (I would've gone with onions). However, this was in part our fault for not reading the menu intently. They did ask and provide a side of sour cream for the pielmeni. Apart from all that, I still give this place a 5/5. The food was SPECTACULAR! It was authentic and it was so delicious. We ate all of it in one sitting. The prices are really good too! I will definitely be ordering again in the near future. PS. DELICIOUS! The place has a friendly cabin-in-the-woods vibe despite being on a highway. I would classify it as cozy fast-casual, with plenty of nice seating. It serves diverse crowds; families, students, locals, etc. As an Eastern-European, I had a feeling that the potato-bacon pierogi would be great; they were! What truly impressed me here, though, was the Sauerkraut - something I have never previously loved. I thought I should give it a try, and I'm glad I did. It has an excellent mix of sweet, sour, piquant, and even with a bit of a American chili taste (possibly cumin?). It was very thinly cut and easy to scoop with a fork! The 6 pierogi was a perfect meal size for me, I was full! (Still ate much of the Sauerkraut though.) The prices are above what I consider fast-casual lunch prices, but for the high quality dine-in meal and comfortable surroundings, I thought it was worth it. They also have a stand of imported Polish sweets, snacks, dried mushrooms, and mustards for sale. Definitely worth a visit if you crave a hearty European meal! read more
