a lobster, corn, and sausage in a styrofoam container

Just moved to OR and this is now my lobster and crab spot! I got the Lobster and 6 shrimp that also came with a sausage, corn and potatoes and I chose lemon pepper! Amazing! Will be back!

Dinner was AMAZING!!!! My husband and I each got a leg-alicious boil. There was NOTHING left! The seasoning was great! I wish the potatoes were just a bit softer. Otherwise I wouldn't change a thing! Delicious!!!! My husband said the same thing I did, I could have ate another two clusters it was so good!

High prices cold food and stale dry crab. Yuk. Usually do not eat at food trucks and this place reminds me why.

The ambiance is set at the barn and for the most part that's fine but I mostly get it taken to go since it's far too busy at the barn at times.

I've been coming to The Depot for years. It was the kind of place you brought out-of-towners to…read moreshow them what this area does right, the chowder alone was worth the drive. That history is exactly why writing this is so hard. Something has changed, and not subtly. On my last two visits, the beer arrived warm! Not slightly off-temperature, but noticeably, unpleasantly warm. The chowder that used to be a signature has a different flavor profile now; it tastes like a recipe was altered or a key ingredient swapped out. And the fish was undercooked. That's wild, since it's friend and they use to check the pieces. You could see where they did in the past. I was served undercooked fish!! I hoped these mistakes were a one-offs, but a pattern has emerged. I've now seen over the last year. I'm so bummed. I'm not alone in noticing. I've run into other longtime regulars who've said the same things unprompted. That tells me this isn't bad luck. I actually saw two other tables have issues when I was in last week. I couldn't hear exactly what, but I could hear the apology and the waitresses face. The wait staff is defeated. I want to be clear: this is not about the waitstaff. The front-of-house team has been as friendly and attentive as ever. They're doing their jobs well. Whatever has shifted is happening at the kitchen or management level, and they shouldn't carry the weight of it. Frankly, I think this is an owner or manager issue. Something is very seriously wrong. I've given The Depot real chances because I genuinely wanted to be wrong. This last visit was the breaking point for me. I won't be back for now, and that genuinely saddens me, because this place earned a loyal customer over many years. To whoever is making decisions behind the scenes: your reputation was built on consistency and quality. People in this community remember what this restaurant was. I hope you hear the feedback that's coming your way and treat it as the signal it is, not noise. The Depot deserves to be the place it used to be. I hope it gets there. If anyone finds things turn around, please leave a review. I want to go back. I'll be watching, but I just can't go there again. It's not been good for so many of my last visits. This isn't just because they don't chill the beer glasses, don't have the wine, undercooked fish, out if items, or funky chowder. It's all of it.

First we arrived 20-30min prior to our reservation. The lady at the front was sooo friendly I was taken back! We asked if we could sit at the bar and get a drink. Of course she said yes. The bar is super cute and I love the hours off-set the restaurant hours so you can enjoy drinks prior to and after dinner. The bar tender was super friendly and you can see he enjoyed his job. The drinks were really good! Our friendly greater came to get us promptly when our table was ready. The table was ready with fresh baked bread and butter. Our waiter was Jessie; what a gem! He was so friendly and helped us with the menu and gave excellent recommendations. We started off with the bar fries (Jessie's recommendation) wow! They were amazing not super heavy and a perfect starter. I had the special which was a NY steak, with Hatch Chili polenta. My steak was perfection and the polenta was delicious. I loved the gravy as well. Superb blend of flavors. We ended the night with the flourless chocolate cake and espresso martini. Fabulous food and honestly some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered.

The tomato appetizer that everyone seemed to rave about was ho hum and several of the sliced tomatoes were already mealy. We left it half uneaten. Entrees were another problem. The steak was over-marinated, so it became mushy even though apparently grill marks were attempted. The fish was poached, which can be good, but it arrived cold & was un-appetizing. It came with seasonal succotash underneath the fish but that was grayish, lumpy & also cold, so it was scraped to the side. Most was left uneaten & when offered to have it boxed up, we declined. I know there are not a lot of options in Albany for "fine dining" but this place is not worth the prices they charge.

Rainy Day, Great Bar Seat, and One Memorable Meal…read more It was a cold, rainy Oregon afternoon when I stumbled into Castor, and I'm glad I did. There happened to be one open seat at the bar, which is my favorite place to dine when traveling. Sitting at the bar lets you talk story with the bartender, learn the menu, and watch the cocktails come together. If you're eating alone, I highly recommend grabbing a seat here. The bartender was friendly, easy to talk with, and clearly knew both the menu and the craft behind the bar. One thing that stood out right away was their use of fresh local ingredients, which really shows up in the flavor of the dishes and drinks. I started with the Golden Manhattan, made with a pecan-infused bourbon that was fantastic. It had a rich, slightly nutty flavor with warm vanilla notes and just the right touch of sweetness. Smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. Alongside that I ordered the chorizo clam chowder, which brought a creamy base with just the right amount of spice from the chorizo. Comfort food with a little personality. For dinner I switched gears and ordered the Creole Sour. This one really stood out. Bright citrus up front, a smooth bourbon backbone, and a subtle spice note that tied perfectly into the Creole theme. It had that classic sour balance, tart, slightly sweet, and refreshing without overpowering the drink. Dinner was the gumbo with hot bread and butter, and it delivered. Deep flavor, a nice slow warmth from the spice, and hearty enough to make the rainy Oregon weather feel like part of the experience. To finish things off I kept it simple with a neat pour of Ben Holladay, which made for the perfect nightcap. The staff were welcoming and relaxed, which made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. This is the kind of place that works whether you're dining solo, meeting friends, out with someone special, or grabbing dinner with a group. The price point landed right where it should be for the quality of food, cocktails, and service. If you're in Corvallis and can grab a seat at the bar at Castor, take it. Order a cocktail, settle in, and enjoy the ride. It turned a rainy afternoon into one heck of a meal.

Almost…read moreeverything I had was great...except for the pork chop which was so dry, I could barely get it down. Dry dry dry. Not the slightest bit juicy. I would never order that again. $37 isn't cheap and I expect more out of a nice piece of pork than being cooked to death. Couldn't really tell it was bourbon and brown sugar marinated. No trace of either of those flavors. Left half of it on my plate and let my server know it was dry. The Summer Maque Choux, which was underneath the pork chop was so off-the-hook good I got just an order of that to take home! They do serve the Maque Choux as a "Snack" and I highly recommend you try it. The pickled tomatoes served on top of the pork were sweet, juicy, and slightly pickled. Yum! The Crispy Pork Belly with the housemade mustard was delicious - the mustard has a great kick to it. The Trout with crispy capers, green beans, and hazelnuts was very tasty. Would get that again, for sure. The sliders were good...I'm not sure $5/each good...but good. Crème Brûlée was excellent. And they make the best Piña Colada I've had in a long time. I'd give 3.5 stars if I could, because that pork chop was soooooooo disappointing, but 4 it is. Everything else was tasty. I'll come back, but not go anywhere near that pork chop.
