My friend and I have given this newly reopened and reincarnated small diner to a larger more seating ,pleasant space two tries. The first visit was very soon after they had reopened, so we were willing to overlook a few things. We arrived at an unusual time, around 3:30, not lunch, not dinner. Place was empty, except for a large number of employees. We waited a bit before we were greeted by a waitress, took the drink order and we waited a bit longer for menus. Lots of chit chat going on amongst the help. We each had different menus, some of the items on my menu were not on my friends menu, just kind of thought that was odd, why would you open if the menus were not correct. Oh well, I ordered the crab cake sandwich on Ciabatta Roll, I forget what my friend ordered, but they didn't have it anyway. so she went with a turkey wrap. Orders did not come out together, my crab cake was good, the roll was very good. Hand cut french fries could have done with a few more minutes in the fryer, a little crunchy.
Now another long wait for the check, we had to signal the waitress for it.
We waited a month before returning, same time of day, same day of week. Once again too much help sitting around at the counter. I played it safe and ordered the crab cake again, menus matched this time, but they are a little confusing. Friends first order was not available, she then went with a veggie wrap, when she took a bite she made a face, told me it was very spicy, peppery, she does not like spicy, peppery. When the waitress came over to check on the order, my friend told her she was not happy with the sandwich, that it was too spicy. Waitress went to the chef and asked what was spicy, he replied nothing was spicy in the sandwich. I then took a bite of the sandwich and found the roasted peppers to be spicy. At that time a young man, either an owner or an employee came over and stood over my friend and said; "somethings wrong with the sandwich MISS?" In a not very pleasant manner. Keep in mind we are both in our 6th decade! She replied that, yes, it was not to her liking, the waitress had already offered to replace the other half of the sandwich with something else, which was fine with my friend. A half of a chicken salad sandwich on bread was brought to the table, it was eaten, because my friend was hungry, not because it was good, there were carrots in the chicken salad, I know picky, picky. We then decided we would split a dessert, they were written on a board on the wall, six different desserts. Of course she picked the one they were out of, when your hot your hot!!! Except for the waitress being very apologetic, nothing else was offered, nothing was taken off the bill, thankfully they did not charge for the replacement half of a sandwich. LOL
I doubt we will give this place a third try, if you are closed for over a year, then open for over a month and you can't get the service or the quantity of food to order right, I think we will pass it by on our next trip east on 44. read more
