I've gone here every now and then over the years. The staff is kind and seems attentive, the decore is very Chinese restaurant with cafeteria tables slid up to a booth. The food is not great however. Almond chicken is very blah. Anything sweet and sour is ok as the sauce drowns everything else out. If you're in Ferndale and want Chinese food, this is a Chinese restaurant. Its good if you like what my wife calls "Bubble Gum Chinese food", its what you would expect in an Americanized Chinese food. Certainly looks dated. I like it for what it is, most of the time. They have some nice combination meals, either individual or family style. If you are looking for that true authentic Chinese food this isn't the place, but if you like that typical Americanized Chinese restaurant from the 80's, this is the place. I like it that way. After additional visits, I had to drop the star rating from 4 to 3. The food is really a mixed bag, you can have a great experience on one visit, then get something funky on the next. After my last visit on a Saturday evening when they were busier, there were two negatives, the service, and the quality of the food. First the service, they were very quick to take the order and bring out the food, but after that, it was a long time before they checked back in to see if we needed anything, and it took a long while to get the bill when we were done. Secondly the food, most of it was good, however the Almond Chicken was very disappointing. It tastes like a salt shaker exploded in the sauce. The almond chicken was pretty bad. I'm from out of town and was driving around town looking for somewhere local to eat. I did not look this place up on Yelp beforehand as I was just super hungry. It looked inviting so I decided to try it out. The interior wasn't bad, very typical of a sit down Chinese place; it even had the stale, dingy feeling most other places I know have. And the older lady taking my order was very nice. I ordered the make it yourself combo, with lemon chicken, garlic chicken, pork egg foo yong, egg drop soup, and steamed rice. It sounded like a good amount of food at 11.99. But it wasn't... I had about 5 pieces of chicken for each portion, the rice was less than substantial, and the egg foo yong was smaller than my palm. It was slathered in sauce and the bread was bothersomely thick. The flavors were non existent minus the sugary sauces. I got my order to go, it felt awfully light, especially for a 3 item entree. And was honestly infuriated once I got back to work and opened up the case. I will never come back here. Nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more

As someone who has lived in ferndale all my life I've tried pretty much every restaurant this town has to offer. Many averaging a pretty mediocre review. This place was unfortunately no different. I was craving Chinese food after a long study sesh- and I decided to give this place a SECOND chance, as I didn't want to drive any further just for a bite to eat. But no different then the first time was I dissatisfied. Takeout packaging was horrible and left my car a mess with the sauces split all over the bags. I didn't see anyone wearing a mask either. Not Covid friendly. I ordered a combo meal and got 4 nuggets of chicken that claimed to be the main course. Overall not worth the money! Will not be going back! If you want to try a great restaurant that's just up the road, try the New Mexico Tamale Co. Yes, it is a change in cuisine, but Ferndale does have limited selection. And it by far is my favorite restaurant this town has to offer: fasts service, friendly staff, and undeniably tasty food. Went there with my family after the Renaissance festival, and boy do I wish we had gone to Cedars or even Subway. Ordered Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and Orange Chicken. Both Kung Pao and Mongolian beef had about 95% vegetables and barely any meat, the sauces were bland and loaded with MSG, and the orange chicken was just pathetic. Had dinner here the other night with a group of 7. The decor is pretty much what you would expect of a Chinese restaurant, a bit dated. Was seated promptly, for a Friday it was not crowded. There was some amusing placemats. It was fun figuring out our zodiac signs! The tea they serve was wonderful. Not to hot, not to sweet. Picked several different entrees. The beef and broccoli had a nice sauce, sweet and sour chicken was very good. A good choice for kids. Egg rolls are huge, definitely not what you are used to! But the best was the rice! WOW!! Ordered from Kowloon Inn about a month ago and all was well. Ordered tonight and when hubby got home he said, "I think they raised their prices". When I realized how much I thought there might be a mistake. Called them and said I thought we were overcharged, or they had a big price increase. The server was kind enough to go over each item we ordered, and sure enough they raised their prices. Even the server said, "Wow, that's like a 30% increase". Food wasn't 30% better, as a matter of fact not as good in our opinion. They really should inform their quests that there has been an increase, but of course they wouldn't do that, they'd lose business. Guess what? They've lost our business. This is a typical strip mall Americanized Chinese food. Served with a ton of sugar, ugh! I am spoiled since I know what the real stuff tastes like & this is NOT it. The egg flower soup was so thick with what I assume is corn starch it was gelatinous with yummy cubes of frozen style carrots & peas (yuk). The "lemon chicken" were cubes of small breaded fried cubes of chicken (think McNuggets) covered in a SWEET clear sauce with a tiny slice of lemon & no lemon flavor. The garlic chicken was served in same awful sweet sauce with no flavor at all. The beef low mein was tolerable but not much better. The "fried"'rice....horrible! Tasted like instant rice made with chicken bouillon, itty bitty slices of what looked like bbq pork but clearly didn't taste like it & a few tiny pieces of green onion. Horrible meal & overcharged. If you want this type of food you are better off at a Chinese buffet at least the food may taste like what it's supposed to be. read more
