Sometimes on a cold winter day a person just needs some comfort food. This restaurant hit the spot on a cold rainy evening! I was in the area for work and needed something to warm the soul. My husband and I live here in Ferndale and we order from Asian Bistro a few times a month for the last 3 1/2 years... We always use DoorDash...but when we got our order tonight,(our favorite #602) which has shrimp, pork and chicken... It didn't have any shrimp or pork and only one piece of chicken. It had noodles which was only filled halfway up in the container and they charged $17 for that! I called the restaurant to tell them that we ordered from them all the time but something must've happened? The woman who answered the phone yelled at me and told me my DoorDasher must have ate it... Seriously?!!!!!!! So I reached out to him through DoorDash to tell him what happened and he was shocked that they would blame him! He said 'I'm never that hungry!' Our bag came totally tied up, the container tight and closed so we know that that didn't happen... We are just surprised that she didn't apologize after us ordering from them at least 200 times and this is the ONLY bad thing we've ever had to say. Maybe it was because we ordered half hour before they closed and it wasn't a big deal to them? just wanted to share this with anybody who else uses DoorDash to order from Asian bistro before closing... FINALLY got here... sooo many on my "list"! Must say the take-out area is properly in place & appreciate that. The hot-sour soup was very tasty & properly presented. The fried rice is ok but lacking in the depth of flavor expected as are the accompanying sauces. Lemongrass pork is one of my favs & the flavor here is good BUT a definite lack of "pork" in this serving sadly, mainly veggies with a good sauce. Was greeted quickly and seated with a menu and offer of a drink. Looked at the menu and found a nice variety of dishes. Decided on the lemongrass pork with white rice (brown rice optional). The plate was done quickly and served hot. Had the hot and sour soup first. Looked appealing with all the colors and I sampled the veggies to see if they were over cooked, they were not, I like the crunch. The pork was fully cooked and tender. The flavor was nice but did not have a distinct lemongrass taste. Didn't even see any evidence of lemongrass in the dish either. I have lived in Ferndale for years and we decided to try the Asian Bistro. We ordered five meals to go. It was the worst meals we have ever had. All five of us did not even finish eating them. I called the next day to complain and they don't even care if your unhappy. The gal in the phone said the owner would not even care if I left a bad review on Yelp. If you are unsatisfied she told me they do absolutely nothing. So here I am leaving a bad review and the owner does not even care. The dishes I tried were barely edible. Nothing was had good flavors, and the food was overall bland and medicore at best. I did not feel very good about the meat quality, and it was amazing how small they rationed portion sizes. I still left and wasted half my order as it was so unpleasent to eat. Small portions and disappointing food make it a no go option. Service and environment were fine but cannot make up for the lacking food. Once a month for our staff meeting we always order food from a local Ferndale restaurant, and it's usually a different restaurant every month. I'm always the employee that orders and picks up the food, and I've seen the entire process done quite poorly in other places around town. But Asian Bistrol did a remarkable job! They wrote down the names of each employees and wrote the name on the to-go boxes, which makes things so much simpler. And they also reviewed the entire order before I got off the phone. The food is excellent as well! There are plenty of delicious options in the Asian / Fusion style. If you haven't tried these guys yet, they're definitely worth checking out. read more

Keeping with the Ferndale restaurant standard, this place is well below average for Asian food. The peas and carrots tasted like they were from a can or from frozen. The menu says there is onion in their basil fried rice. It also mentions egg in the ingredients, but you have to really search them out. The onion listed, I had one tiny piece in one bite. The rest of my rice not a single onion to be found. Peas, carrots, and rice with basil and tofu. It was fairly bland and I feel like my money would have been better spent elsewhere. It was also kind of dry. Save your money, drive into Bellingham and go to Wanida Thai for some Basil Fried Rice. That is what I should have done and will do next time. read more

I've eaten here for over twelve years, ever since the original owners had the place. I've enjoyed so many great meals! I even catered an event from here with rave reviews from a hundred people. But it seems to be under new ownership and the take out order we had three weeks ago was terrible! Everything was different and badly done! The egg rolls were soggy and greasy. The General Tzo chicken was awful! The chicken was like the frozen nuggets at a grocery store and the sauce was thin and tasteless even though I ordered three stars. The pad Thai noodles were greasy and tasteless, the other dishes equally bad. I'm bitterly disappointed! We've enjoyed so many wonderful meals and never expected otherwise! How I heard of this place: My friend Leslie introduced me to the Asian Bistro when we met up for lunch on a lovely, Bellingham, summer day. When I arrived at her work-place, Leslie said she was craving Chinese food and knew just the place. Type of cuisine: Chinese with samples from Thailand and Southeast Asia. The menu boasts "Oriental Food - We are different! Oriental Pasta - We are the best!" Posted on Yelp! by a fellow diner: "This family-owned Chinese restaurant is a refreshing departure from the uniform mediocrity of most Chinese restaurants. This food is definitely more individualized than cookie cutter - and the service that the family lavishes on their guests is heart-felt and pleasant. Their wonton soup is delightful with large fresh-cut vegetables and a delicate stock...Besides Chinese and Thai food, Asian Bistro has some interesting and original dishes on the menu; for example, although I was tempted, I wasn't brave enough to try the Kung Pao Spaghetti. I've dined here about a handful of times now. Each time has been very pleasant and satisfying. A couple operates this restaurant. The owner is the cook and his significant other takes care of the dining room. They offer a wide selection of Asian food. My husband enjoys the General Tso and I have enjoyed the Pad Thai each time. The service is friendly, the food is fresh, and the dining room is welcoming and clean. We notice that the service and the food is consistent. We've even recognized returning patrons! The staff acknowledged them and greeted them by name! This is a great stop in Ferndale for some fresh Asian food! Highly recommend the chicken noodle soup made of rice noodles, and the Pad Thai! Was really disappointed with the pad Thai this place has to offer. I've had pad Thai numerous times at multiple places and have never had a problem finishing what I have ordered. I couldn't eat this plate of food. The pad Thai was lacking the peanut sauce and instead of spice that most places use they covered their chicken with the spicy sauce a teriyaki plate would come with. The restaurant has obviously switched hands in the 10+ years since I've been here, and decor has been updated. I believe it used to be Thai food. Either way, I was happy to see it was bright, clean, and cheery inside. Service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly, happy, kind to my kids, and helpful with suggestions. Despite handling quite a few tables (and take out orders) on her own, drinks were prompt, food came out fast, and she wasn't stressing at all. My son ordered Beef Teriyaki, my husband and I both went for the large dinner special, and my daughter simply wanted a large bowl of egg drop soup. Our dinner special came with a cup of soup, two "sides" (egg roll, pot stickers, bbq pork, or crab rangoon), an entree, and cup of steamed or fried rice. Tons of food for 12.99! Husband went with General Tso as his entree and I went with Mongolian Beef (on recommendation from a past yelper!) The Generals was a little sweet for me, pretty Americanized, but it was still yummy and it hit the spot. The Mongolian Beef, however, was a joy and we all ended up finishing that plate off first. My son LOVED his teriyaki beef. Again, a bit too sweet for my tastes, but he was completely happy and the portions were generous so he had a takeout lunch for the next day. My daughters "bowl" of egg flower was more like a mixing bowl! HUGE portion that she was unable to finish, but we're not complaining, it was a fantastic value. Although we enjoyed dining in, we will most often be ordering Asian Bistro to go from now on, simply because we really enjoy eating at home, but I give them two thumbs up both on our meal, and the service!
