I popped in here while I was passing through Somerset on a road trip…read more While I trust that the ingredients are probably pretty good, there was zero flavor to the mermaid bowl, other than the sweetness of the strawberries (and they give you three different kinds of fruit on top). I eat A LOT of smoothie bowls. I think it could be tweaked with a coconut base or more tropical flavor of some kind. It just didn't do it for me. I also walked away with 3 shots. Those were pretty good and decently priced. Aside from that, the non-greeting when walking into the shop just left a sour taste in my mouth. I mean, this is a small town juice shop. Isn't that supposed to be a given? Overall, this was just a mediocre experience.

With my sandwich, I purchased a Celsius beverage for $4.64, almost $2.00 more than it will cost you at most locations. If this market was in a very remote location to justify significantly higher shipping costs, I could understand the absurdly high markups, but it isn't THAT far off the 'beaten path.' I'm guessing they mostly cater to a high-income customer base, so they're simply price gouging to take advantage of that. For the rest of us 'common folk,' just be prepared to shell out more than you may have anticipated.

I saw a social media posting that they were featuring Native American frybread to celebrate Indigenous People's Day, and I have always wanted to try that. Portions are huge and delicious, and the people behind the counter are incredibly kind and welcoming. Their frybread is 100% authentic: the owners are Native Americans and are very proud of their culture. The frybread could be ordered sweet (with honey) or savory (with a choice of pork or chicken, including salsa and a cilantro cream drizzle, plus an excellent soup). We tried both, and both were excellent. I was impressed that their advertisement of this dish included a link to a Smithsonian Magazine article that explained the cultural significance and controversies surrounding frybread. Their counter in the food court includes cultural artifacts and information about Native Americans as well as foodstuffs. This family-owned bakery/food court food counter features a beautiful range of baked goods, including one of the best cookies I have eaten. No menu is posted, which could account for lack of food traffic. When I asked about this, I was told that the menu changes often and they are not ready to post a permanent menu yet (they have only been open since July). I hope that frybread will be a regular feature, and I look forward to any new dishes on their menu. I also hope they will post a menu soon--people need to know what wonderful dishes await.
