Every time I'm in town, I try to make a stop to O'Sheas. My mom is addicted to their chocolate covered cherry cordials. They are hand-dipped and the chocolate is super thick. I like the old fashioned candy section: coconut patties, flying saucers, peppermint sticks, and more. The store has an impressive selection of types of candy. This location also has an ice cream shop. I recently found out that they ship their goods. I ordered the cherry cordials 3 days before Mother's Day and they arrived promptly and packaged well--even included free gift wrapping. My only complaint is the prices can be a little steep. However, I don't mind paying extra for homemade items, especially when the quality is consistently great like O'Shea's. read more

O'Sheas's Candies is a local JOHNSTOWN Chocolate/Candy store. They have been making candies for over 80 years! What a wonderful tradition, a true gem! We visited in the evening for ice cream. My oh my, I have never seen a menu with so many options and flavors!!! Very impressed, and over overwhelmed ( in a good way!!). I really enjoyed reading some of the sundae optioned named for the Johnstown area - the JOHNSTOWN Flood, the inclined plane, etc. Once we decided on milkshakes, we placed our order (very polite staff). UPDATE: Company responded to my email (on a holiday, no less) and offered an apology, explanation and refund and then offered to send the correct order to my Mom at no charge. Just like an O'Shea! (That's my last name!) i am very grateful and impressed with the offer. I'm sure they will see it through. Very disappointed in having spent $39.80 on a Thanksgiving gift order for my 80 year old mother with whom I cannot celebrate the holiday this year. I specifically ordered one pound of dark chocolate caramels and she received a pound of assorted dark chocolates. The order for caramels was purposeful and I learned this morning that it was not filled correctly. Nothing better than a small candy shop, when you add in that it is a local favorite, it is that much better. This location is in the Geistown Cloverleaf Complex. Sitting on the corner spot makes for easy access to the store. Walking in you get hit by a wall of aroma that almost immediately takes you back to your childhood. That smell of chocolate is just great. Everything that you can imagine being dipped in chocolate they have; from Oreos to graham crackers, pretzels to Nutter Butter cookies and oddities like potato chips. Whichever way you go, you can't go wrong. There is also throwback candies in here as well. Candy dots, sugar pops and the list could go on and on. The employees in here make you feel like you are in your grandmother's kitchen as she is baking up some goodies. Not trying to stereotype there, but a majority of the employees are older ladies. Oh good, I have your attention now! This is the location that I most frequent, conveniently located in a small shopping center near my mother's house. I have been indulging in them since I was a child. This is a very small long and narrow store but jam packed with candy, gifts, gift bags and cards. The staff is always eager to start loading up your bags and boxes of candy and nuts. I always stand back and refuse to make eye contact until I know exactly what I plan to walk out with. Over sixty different hand dipped chocolates to choose from takes some time folks. I also am an addict of their assorted fruit slices, especially the pink grapefruit. The gummy red and black raspberries with the beads on the outside, I order first and grab the bag to inhale while I order more goodies. When I say they make their own candies, I mean they make their own candies. Remember Mexican hats? You know the ones that stuck to your teeth after swallowing? First time at O'Shea's and I was very impressed! Their ice cream selection was beyond my wildest dreams- they had very unique flavors and even carried some Penn State Creamy flavors! Their portion sizes are very large- a "baby cone" is two scoops! The homemade waffle cones were delicious, with a bit of cinnamon flavor. They make each ice cream extra special but putting a piece of their homemade chocolate on the top of the cone! Can't wait to go back! read more

I visited my mother-in-law and she heard there was Penn State ice cream at O'Shea's. Lo and behold . . . YES YES YES!!!!!! I bought her two quarts (mint chocolate chip and death by chocolate) and we had a small scooped cone which was really 3 small scoops (found out later you can have 3 different flavors). I returned a few weeks later when my husband and son came up with me. It was freezing outside, but hey . . . it's Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream!!!! And WE ARE!!!!! read more

Is the candy good? What candy isn't? Is Oshea's candy better than other local candy establishments such as Mid's Candy or Gardeners Candy? Absolutely not. Not only is the candy below the quality standards of that of Mid's and Gardeners candies, the ownership and the organization has significantly declined since the founding days. The reputation on Oshea's candy is built on legacy. A legacy that obviously does not exist today, and a legacy that would be rolling in its wrapper if it saw how this establishment was being run. Not only did they take part in copyright infringement attempting to coattail a national competition, that was won in this area, to try to boost sales. I am confident that they did nothing to fund the effort that us local grassroot individuals put great effort into and take pride in. What some people do to churn a profit sometime baffles me. This speaks to the leadership of a small candy company that seems to have a dismal future with its lack of leader, quality and disregard for its local community. I strongly suggest Gardeners or Mid's candy as they have quality products, quality leadership and a deep respect for our local community. If I could give no stars or negative stars I would. This place doesn't deserve one star. read more
