We stopped after visiting the NHP - it's a quick walk from the junction of C&O and GAP. I've worked in restaurants - this place is top notch. We had both soups - a GF chicken noodle soup and a vegan kale & artichoke (coconut) cream soup. The flavors were incredible. You can tell they spend a lot of time perfecting their soup. We also had sushi, a Tuna Maki roll and a California roll. The California roll was GF because they use ACTUAL (Maryland) crab instead of surimi. It was super good. Super. Service was easy with both paper menus, or a convenient ordering screen. They have a full bar, too. They have tables as well as couch/chair area. You can get self-service water, too. Super comfy and welcoming.

This time I was passing by at dinner time so checked it out. It was Trivia Night so I opted for outside at one of the small 3 patio tables. The street has an outdoor dining vibe with two other restaurants also with outdoor seating. You put in your order at the bar (at least this Wednesday night) with a welcoming bartender on easy check list for sushi and ramen. I was stopping on the late side and those finishing their meals were clearly enjoying themselves. Many knew each other across tables as lots of stopping by for chats among friends. The pork belly in the ramen was definitely my jam as it had a crunchy top with easy to come apart pieces. Definitely the highlight. Not nearly as big a fan of the Asian greens which fell into almost a paste, the mushrooms not looking like they were fresh (to be fair there is a shiitake option I missed), and the smoked eggplant a little too chewy. And I took a flyer on the "special broth" without asking what it was so that is on me. But the really dark perhaps cinnamon infused (don't hold me to it) version was not something for me. The noodles were ample but not plentiful and were legit. So I think I'd opt for Nori instead of Asian greens next time and go with more traditional toppings. But definitely endorse the pork belly. I tried a smoked eggplant sushi role as something new. Just fine, I've tried it but I'll try another combo they have next time. And I know the economics are tough these days and specialty roles are routinely low teens in cost, but I'd suggest a two tier pricing scheme rather than $13.00 for one with a single ingredient and just 6 rather than normally 8 for specialty rolls. Glad I stopped and I will again to try some of the other fare. Just may be a little more traditional in my choices next time.

Plus at the end it wasn't slow at all but pretty average paced if you ask me. My friend ordered the artisan fruit and cheese board to share and it was really good. We especially liked the contrast of the honey mustard and zing sauce.. I got Will's Mountain Club on grilled sourdough and its as on point...tons of flavor, just the right combination of meats and sauces and really crisp delicious bread. Service was outstanding, like really attentive and good, super friendly, very accommodating. Couldn't have been any better. One of the biggest things I loved about this place was their support of local artists. They had local fine art for sale everywhere around the restaurant. I was on a motorcycle otherwise I'd have taken several prints home but I had nowhere to put it. I did copy the artists names down and placed a couple orders when I got home. They also had things like sourdough chocolate chunk cookies for sale packaged inside. I bought one to eat later, never had a sourdough cookie before and it was great! They have a garden outside that's fun to walk through and I'm assuming they get some herbs from it for their meals. Good sized parking lot and easy to get in and out of and if you're on a bike you can park on the concrete by the building instead of the gravel. I will definitely return next time I'm in the area. Rode all the way up from Cumberland where we were staying and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

They have brunch, and dinner. They change up the menu for each season. You can tell that this is fresh. They also sell lots of local things. It's a mini shopping experience within the restaurant. It's awesome. Lots of tasty things for sale that are baked on premise in the house behind the restaurant. They make their own sourdough breads, buns, cookies, brownies, crumb cake, etc. Don't leave without one of these terrific treats. We got the gluten free granola and the sourdough crumb cake. Highly recommend both!!!! Service was awesome. Great servers who are very friendly and helpful. Also very attentive. A terrific customer service team. We ordered burgers. One with mushrooms and spinach dip and the other with caramelized onions and beer cheese. These burgers are from local farmers and the buns are made on premise. I cannot recommend the burgers enough! Just absolutely WOW!! Even if you have to order one for the table and cut it into pieces to just taste it - do it! We had the creamy coleslaw, seasoned potato wedges and both ordered the roasted balsamic beets. You can tell all sides are homemade. But, if you are a beet lover do not leave without trying these beets. They will be talked about forever. Just amazeballs. We didn't have room for their homemade desserts which was a bummer (there's a case so you can see the drool worthy creations). These too are made on the premises. If you are anywhere within a two (I would say 4 or unlimited) hour drive do yourself a favor and go experience some truly amazing cooking talent at this wonderful place. Dreamy.

We even got to meet the owner who was working behind the bar. Ambiance is cool. They have a little shop area that you can buy local art work, soaps, and jewelry. They have a sitting area with just couches and a table. There are various board games you can play. There are different types of seating. You can sit at the bar, high top bench area, normal dining area with chairs, or sit in front of the ramen bar and watch her chef it up! The food was ok. I give this a 5 star review because my partner was obsessed with the ramen bowl and the sushi (i didn't get a picture of the sushi unfortunately). The corn dip was great. It had a lot of flavor but i will say, the portion size was off. Not happy about how little dip we got. There were tons of left over chips. The chips tasted like they were made in house. The old fashioned was great. We opted for the in house bourbon. The espresso martini was a disappointment. The size of this was very small for the price. I even asked the owner about this, and he informed me it was an illusion based on the shape of the glass. I don't believe that because i was barely buzzed. It also didn't come with a rim like stated in the drink description. The India power bowl was also a huge let down. I opted for quinoa. The butter chicken, chickpeas, and quinoa were super dry. Not very impressed. It didn't have much Indian spice flavor. Best to stick to the sushi and the ramen bowl.

Service was amazing - welcoming and very helpful to orient us to how to order. Warm, friendly and professional throughout our stay. The business area in historic downtown Cumberland is undergoing major work on the street and sidewalks - but it was easy to find free parking nearby and had no problem finding our way here. Upon entering we saw a "Happy Birthday" sign and were greeted by two lovely servers. A first bite was served while we waited for our cocktails . It was a chunk of very sweet watermelon on a wooden coaster. Next came some delicious bread with a leek butter. My daughter added the 4 shot cocktails to our experience and they were fun! Jell-O shots elevated quite a bit. Our appetizer was chef's choice which was burrata with grilled eggplant, peaches, greens and baguette. All so good! We enjoyed some extra cocktails from the menu, a blackberry mojito and a white Negroni with the appetizer. Then the entrees came along. I got the wild mushroom ravioli and she got the Faroe Islands salmon. This was the only part of the meal you had a choice in and you have to advise them ahead of time what you would like to eat as the main course. The final course was a creme brûlée serves in a 4 ounce mason jar. All in all, excellent quality of food and service with reasonable portions. We did not leave hungry. The screened in dining pod itself was very comfortable. It was a pleasant summer day so we did not need the fan or the heater which was available. They are nestled in the woods and sunshine peeks through the trees for a most serene dining experience. I commented that even if it were raining, you would be comfortable due to the design of the pods. There is a wide overhang so the rain wouldn't bother you coming in through the screens. If you are looking for a unique way to celebrate or just want to feel one with nature, this is an excellent option to consider. I highly recommend trying one out!

Our servers were so great at explaining all the dishes to us. A welcome plate is provided with some bites the chef wants you to try. For the first course I chose the shrimp skewer, biggest shrimp I've ordered out. The spring salad was delicious, I loved the vinaigrette. Next was the papparella pasta was sooooo good. Only complaint is wish I had more. My main that I chose earlier that week the ahi tuna was incredible. Such a big piece and much more food than I was expecting. For dessert the creme brûlée and some truffles. I loved looking around at the art work and design of the home. It is such a cool place. Looking out into the woods was like a fairy tale. Will absolutely have to be back to experience sitting in a pod.
