Stopped by here on the way to San Antonio to visit my granddaughter! Place was PACKED!! I got Dewberry kolaches and a meringue pie! Everything looked so yummy. The young man working the counter means business! He was very nice, fast and informative of what everything was considering it was our first time being there. We were excited to stop for a treat. We went in and there was one person sitting and eating. We stood at the counter for a while waiting to be helped. There were three ladies in the back we could see and one clearly saw us. We continued to wait. We walked around and talked a bit louder to be sure they all knew we were out there. Then another person came in and the door slammed shut and the no one came out to help us. We all stood there listening the ladies in the back chatting and not paying attention to the lobby. We went to the door and opened and closed it again in hopes they would hear it and help us. We ended up walking out and the other person was still standing. There were still waiting for help when we left. We are on our way home from cancer treatment in Houston and this sounded so good and everything looked tasty. Had the grilled chicken salad. Chicken seasoned well, salad loaded and so so yummy. Hubby had the chicken fried steak special. He said it was very good. Pastries looked amazing but didn't try any this time. Food was 5 star. Thought about taking a star away because of staff... youngsters were arguing and bickering the whole time we were there. I was passing through last Saturday, and saw the open sign lit up over the door, so I pulled up through the drive through the same time a truck parked and went inside. Once I reached the drive through window, a lady was shaking her head at me (which I assumed meant the drive through lane was closed). Since the people in the truck went inside just before me, I parked in the front and looked up the hours online to confirm they were open (which it said they were open until 8pm). I walked inside and ask for a pig and the gentleman working said they were out. The people in front of me had so much food they had just paid for and there were currently tables of people sitting and eating. At that time, the lady from the drive through yelled that they were closed. I said, "oh, ok" and went to leave when she very rudely snarked to the guy working as cashier, "I just told her that in the drive through!". I yelled back, "I'm so sorry, I thought you meant the drive through was closed". The gentleman behind the counter was trying to be nice while the lady kept snarking behind me as I was leaving. I cannot get over how rude the lady was, and I will happily take all my future business to frontier. This was my very first experience there and definitely do NOT recommend. Kountry bakery takes you back to old world Germany with their amazing closely guarded apple strudel recipe. It is absolutely the bomb! Just close your eyes and imagine being deep in a heart of Germany having coffee and strudel for breakfast, and you've been transported! I haven't tried anything else from there, but I'll take this and the extra pound on my hips any day! read more

Great bakery close to the interstate. I tried the cream cheese kolaches and they are excellent. Also had the pecan roll which is superb if you heat it for a few seconds. Full of what appears to be brown sugar cinnamon and lots of chopped pecans. We also brought home a loaf of their white bread. So soft and is even better toasted. A great place to stop when you are traveling between Houston and San Antonio. read more

This review is based entirely on exceptional customer service. I found myself in a bind after driving 35 miles and arriving at the Eagle Lake location to pick up a special order, only to surprisingly find they had closed 20 minutes prior. I called the Hallettsville location and they had one of the two pies that I wanted. It was an additional 37 miles away, and I told the young lady that I could be there right at their 1PM closing time. She said that she would stay open for my arrival. I actually arrived 2 minutes before closing. I was very grateful for their willingness to wait and spent 3X the cost of the pie on other baked items. I also left a generous tip for her trouble. I am sure the baked goods will be delicious! read more

When we visit from Dallas we stop at the Kountry Bakery in Hallettsville. Although the fruit kolaches are pretty good it is disheartening to know that when you order multiple kolaches they sell you flavors that you do not want. Example: I ordered 6 pineapple and 6 cherry kolaches. I received 3 strawberry kolaches and 2 lemon. Since these flavors look similar, how was I to know that they hadn't fully filled my order. It isn't we bite into the kolaches that we realize the switch. Since this has happened multiple times I now realize this is common practice for the staff to do this to customers. It angers me because I absolutely hate strawberry flavored food and the lemon filling they use is so artificial that it's disgusting! Anyway, order cautiously from these people. We will try another bakery when we visit again. YUCK! read more

This place gets hyped up a lot, and I have had great koloches from them before. Yesterday was not the case. We went through the drive through and ordered a ham and cheese kolache, a small coffee, and two poppy seed kolaches. The good: Poppy seed kolaches were excellent, probably could have used heating up though. The bad: I know it was a "small" coffee, but I was not expecting it in what looked like a Dixie cup, sooo small. The ugly: The ham and cheese kolache was ICE cold! At least nuke that sucker for 10 seconds. I could tell when fresh it was probably amazing. It just seemed lazy and as if they were running us through the drive through like cattle. If I return I guess I will have to specify that I want warm food. read more

They charge $0.55 each time if you use a credit or debit card. Tried to talk with them about it, but they referred me to a "Noa" guy in San Antonio who supposedly set this up, but would not answer the phone or return calls. This is in direct violation of the Texas Business and Commerce codes., which state that this is illegal. What a bunch of greedy little jerks. But, knowing the owner's reputation, it's not surprising. read more

Food is good. Staff is a bit lazy. Placed order at 12:1(. They close at 1:00 on Saturday. Both sweet and unsweetened tea dispensers were out. We informed a young lady who went back to th kitchen and never returned. About 12:30 we spoke with the girl who served our order. She informed us it was too close to closing and no more tea would be made. The manager on duty came out with an attitude telling us no more tea would be made. Disappointed. read more

Passing through for work and stopped for lunch. Tea had bitter aftertaste. Flies buzzed around my table while I waited for my lunch special. Lasagna cheese looked like it was melted some time ago. Vegetables were cooked way too long and were basically mush. The side salad was served on my plate and was warm. The cornbread served was dry and warmed in microwave. Don't go here much at all because of bad customer service experiences in the past. But my child asked and I agreed only to once again see the same unsmiling, unfriendly staff. They didn't have what I wanted, OK no problem, I can get something else...NO we just walk off. Left me standing there while she went to the cahier's to check out what my child ordered. Can you at least bother to hire someone that can actually say HELLO, doesn't look mad at the world, and maybe care just a bit about customer service? We had a wonderful breakfast of the varying pigs in a blanket and fruit kolaches. The four of us in our party were pleased. The lady waiting on us was not a pleasant person though. I have had so many different things from here, where do I start? The kolaches are delicious, but if you want the really great ones...you need to buy the ones Mrs. Neumeyer donates to the church for their bi-annual picnics (memorial day weekend, and labor day weekend). Hers are buttery delicious goodness, and worth every penny! Back to the bakery, the sausage rolls are delicious, but you need to order ahead or go in early because they tend to run out.
