The Bool Gal Bi lunch special was such a great deal, 3 flanken short rib serveds on a plate of white rice, served along with Korean condiments of spinach, bean sprouts and kim chi. All that said, Chung Oak's "Kal Bi" recipe was the standard from CA to any other state in the Union. Fast forward to today and forty years later, Chung Oaks is still there serving the Best Korean BBQ ever. Gotta try their dinner plate of Bool Gal Bi, but come hungry because the portion has gotten bigger, its enough for two persons. The condiments are served very chilled and remain unsurpassed in flavor as diverse as the color they come in. It was nice reminiscing on past visits from decades ago and delighted that its still hear. Service is still as friendly as before and nice environment to relax. I have through the years highly regarded this restaurant and after today, 40 yrs later, will continue to do so. Had i not been able to mimick this recipe, i would be a frequent flier to Newport News VA (took a rear and a half of trial and error to mimick taste just right and to carmelize the beef to perfection). Gotta try this place. Hey Steve, Liebo and Johnny, i finally made it back to Chung Oak in Newport News.

Yes, there were little chunks of meat in it too. It was pretty simple. Great for lunch! Succhini, tofu and the little bits of meat. It was perfect. Nice and light but a little bit spicy. Only for a little bowls of bonchon. But they were more than happy to refill them. Get that barley tea! Staff was really friendly. Lots of places to sit. Highly recommend it

They love shopping at the E-Mart next door and the bakery. So it came recommended. I'm glad it did because my husband would love it here. The interior I am told can get warm in the summer as the AC may not be operable. But, I can not fully confirm that at this time. The interior is nicely decorated. The parking lot is huge, and shares with other businesses. Service was great. She was attentive and came through with any special requests. Our drinks were consistently full, and the food came out piping hot. I opted for the fried rice. It was pretty good. A few of my friends raved about their fried rice. The beef bulgogi was a favorite with my group. I did not hear any complaints on the food. Overall a fantastic experience, and the taste buds were happy. Pricing was reasonable and affordable. I walked out spending just a little under $20 for a ginger ale, and fried rice. After paying they gave us some pocky. Such a cute sentiment for Valentine's Day.

The grilled mackerel was perfectly charred and flaky, with a delightful smokiness. And the bibimbap was a flavor bomb with the gochujang sauce. The broth from the gamjatang was the best - super meaty and flavorful. Comfort food at its finest. Can't wait to come back for more!
