I always pass Bubba & Franks Smokehouse and finally decided to try it! I tried the brisket quesadilla with hand cut French fries along with their collard greens and mac & cheese. The brisket quesadilla was SO good, and they were not stingy with the brisket. The fries were just ok, and I do not think the mac&cheese is house made. It reminded me of stouffers if I am being honest. The collard greens were not seasoned well either. The restaurant itself has a southern feel. It was clean with plenty of rooom to dine in. The cashier/server was very nice and able to make recommendations. I would say they are a bit pricey compared to other bbq places I have visited. I would go back and try other things on the menu! This place was so welcoming! The staff was super friendly, the decor and feeling when you walk in was very positive. You order at the register and they ring you your food-and quick! We ordered the chopped NC BBQ and it was delicious! So moist and full of flavor. Good size amount for a sandwich too. Coleslaw was amazing! One of the best I've had. Not too soupy and had a good taste. Sebring size with sandwich left me wanting more though. Fries were good, but for $3.79 for sides, it was not very many. I expected a larger portion. Other than the side prices being a little steep , this will definitely become a favorite. They also have burgers, ribs, chicken tenders, and much more. Oct 26 Came here a couple times. Not bad. It used to be good for a quick bite while on the run. Staff is fine. Sides arent anything to write home about. Burgers are alright. BBQ was def not worth the price. I rank my decisions to eat somewhere again as: 1 star - if someone else buys it I won't eat it, I would rather go hungry. 2 star - if I'm hungry, no other options are open and someone buys it - I would consider eating it 3 star - I'm ok with eating it as long as someone else pays 4 star - I will eat again and pay for it and be a semi-regular customer 5 star - I will travel for good food and pay good money and be back on a regular basis and maybe even pay for yours just so we can go read more

It had been my experience that most of these Smokehouse BBQ joints in the area are "ok, but I've had better". Bubba & Franks Smokehouse made me have a refreshing view of that old clique of thinking. Couldn't have been a better choice for Friday night dinner. I had the Brisket quesadillas and a Bacon Cheese Burger. Wifey had the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Unfortunately she wanted a fried chicken dinner, and thats what we ordered. But the small print revealed the dinner was actually a sandwich. The quesadillas are a hit! Tender smoked brisket cooked to perfection heated between a flour tortilla with cheese and served with sour cream and pico-d. Be sure and have napkins for this one cause you gonna need em. The burger was even more amazing! It was at least a quarter-pound patty grilled-smoked to perfection with cheese, bacon and the kicker, dill pickle chips. The fried chicken sandwich was served hot and delicious. Bubba & Franks hit the spot on all levels. Food was ready when we arrived and it was fresh and hot. My family and I stopped here for food while traveling, and we weren't disappointed. We decided to split all of the things on the menu that sounded appetizing, and it was ready to eat fairly quickly. They have really efficient service, and the people are very inviting. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was pretty welcoming, and it made the overall experience feel extremely positive. EDIT 12/6/2023 I got lunch here today and wasn't pleased. I ordered my usual, a bacon cheeseburger with only lettuce. I received no bacon, and when I brought it up to the new cashier who took my order, she wanted to argue with me instead of just admitting there was a miscommunication and fix the problem. The NC style chopped pork is honestly the closet thing I've had in Virginia to authentic NC barbecue. The brisket Philly was delicious! My fiancé loved it. The sides were delicious. A small fast casual rib and wing house on Floyd Thompson Blvd in Hampton, VA, with limited menu, ordering with the cashier and table delivery, it has a small dining room with ten or so tables. We four ordered two salmon, brisket and half rack rib dinners. Each came with two sides and a few hush puppies. Baked beans, cole slaw and sweet potato fries were in small styro cups on the large plates required to hold them and the mains. The ribs were mine. Excellent bark and a real nice tangy sauce. Pull off the bone tender. Gave one to each of my family and devoured the last three. Delicious. Loved the beans and slaw, too. One tart and savory, the other cool and crunchy sweet. Got a taste of the salmon and brisket. The fish was a fresh steak with a very good glaze. Surprisingly tasty. I think we scored their last two pieces. The brisket came as a hash, chopped and mixed with a North Carolina style heavy sauce. My son expected the traditional sliced and barked smoked beef, and was disappointed by what he received. I tasted and liked it as it was, but understood his feelings. For me, it would have been better with two fried eggs on top for breakfast with coffee and toast, but otherwise it was a decent variant of the better known dish. Prices were very fair. Service was friendly, but limited to taking orders and bringing platters to the table. All in all I would return to this or the other Bubba's & Frank's to get my BBQ freak on next time in Virginia. read more

The pulled pork sandwich wasn't very good, and the Mac & cheese tasted like it came out of a can.

I ordered the half smoked chicken special. It was still $11.99, the same price as usual, but the difference was my drink was included. The chicken was coated in their sopping sauce, which is a thicker red barbecue sauce with a little bit of smoke & pepper in it. It was a very satisfying sauce without being too heavy. The chicken was moist, I only wish the skin could be a little crisper. It also came with four hush puppies and two sides. Now I am not from the south, I have not eaten a ton of hush puppies in my life, but these were tremendous. They were cooked well without being overdone, and they had a good corn type of flavor to them. I didn't expect to eat all four, but I did. For the sides, the coleslaw was not overly creamy and heavy, which is a good thing. And the sweet potato wedges were okay, though they came with a ton of cinnamon and sugar on them. I got charged a little bit extra for the sweet potato wedges, I just wish I had been told that before I was actually charged. The service was very friendly. It is a good barbecue place, comparable to some of the others I've had in this area, except this is more of a fast-casual type of setting. read more

I felt like the product I was served in the Portsmouth, VA restaurant was not representative of what enabled a successful dining experience. The full rack of ribs tasted like burnt BBQ sauce. The smoked pulled pork and brisket lacked smoke flavor and if not for the large amount of BBQ sauce, it would've have been flavorless. A disappointing experience. The service was beyond out of this world. Friendliest most helpful young lady at the counter. She spoke Spanish which was a triple plus for my picky 88 year old mum. I bought the pull pork sandwich and collard greens on the side. The pull pork was cooked okay EXTRAA greasy! no seasoning tho so it was bland not even barbecue sauce. Like come on now it was my first time I didn't know you had to ask for that if you did. Now these greens are HORRIBLE please do not buy them they taste like tar honestly. I've passed by this place dozens of times but never noticed it tucked into a small shopping center. It is definitely a casual restaurant, with the decor a bit outdated. It happened to be a 72 degree day outside and inside the restaurant felt extremely warm. I wish they turned on the AC. That was about the only negative. The employees were warm and friendly. We were given chips and salsa for the wait. The chips were a bit hard but the salsa had a nice sweet taste to it. My brisket sandwich was flavorful and juicy. I can do without their cole slaw next time though. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the food considering the cheap price. Well honestly, I was looking for a terrible restaurant to review for my first youtube video. Having slim to no patience I decided to find a restaurant with a terrible review that also included 5-star reviews. I ran across Bubba & Franks and it fit the bill. I had no expectations, money to spend, and time to waste. My must-have was the collards because someone who recently gave them a 2-star review said they were dry, although I didn't understand how collards could be dry, I wanted to find out for myself. I walked in and was happily greeted by the cashier with a smile and hello. The menu was so big it took a minute to decide what I wanted, I went with the brisket Quesadilla which is the best quesadilla I have ever had in my life, hands down and I have eaten in over 10 countries around the world, to include Mexico. I also had the NC "Chop Pork" BBQ, and I was warned by the cashier beforehand about the style of BBQ that comes from NC (Vinegar!) It wasn't nasty by any means but it just wasn't my style. The Hush puppies I think I'd fight someone if they tried to take one. The Mac n Cheese, sadly disappointed, however, I'll leave it at that lol (I know no one who works there eats their mac n cheese like that on thanksgiving lol). The main thing I came for was the dry Collards.... let me tell you, they definitely were not dry, and were some of the best collards I've ever had outside of my grandma's IJS, I even drank the juice, and yes I'm fat. Took a chance on this BBQ joint, & was very impressed! Hubby got 1/2 rack of ribs w fried okra and hush puppies. I got the pulled pork sandwich, with collards and French fries. It was delicious!! They have a wide variety of everything! Prices were decent also! Super sweet staff, and very clean. The 30 minute drive was totally worth it, however the owner needs a location in Virginia Beach! read more
