Bless their little hearts.... These guys try really really hard, but sadly have some kinks to work out with service and the food isn't what I would call authentic.
The first sign I should have taken from this newly opened restaurant on the happening Stanley Street is that even though it's billed as a Korean BBQ joint, everyone else was ordering fully cooked food off of the menu. Strange, I thought, as I sat down, but having never done Korean BBQ before I thought perhaps the kitchen finishes everything off for you.
Nope, not the case. My friend and I ordered the "special" menu, which is $45 a person and includes salad, three "sides" (which were pickled onions, kimchi and some sort of egg noodle), soup and then skewers of beef, chicken, pork, pork belly, prawn and octopus to cook.
I got REALLY excited when I saw the skewers and then really confused- where and how were we going to cook them? Insert charcoal box that the waitress brought out, and in which she placed our skewers. I've heard that half the fun of Korean BBQ is an open flame and cooking all of your meat together over the table- this was more watching the box with lackluster wondering when it was going to be deemed ready.
The food itself wasn't bad, but the service was painfully slow and the experience really lacking what traditional Korean BBQ should be. read more
