Kooma has the best sushi, Period. I travel a lot for work and have tried sushi in many states and countries. Nothing outside of Japan or San Francisco comes close to the quality of sushi that Kooma continuously supplies. The fish is cut very thick and is always fresh. The staff is pleasant and the prices are as expected for a Japanese sushi style bar/restaurant. My wife and I often go here for date night, and though it can be noisy at times, this is the place to eat sushi! I highly recommend it. read more

Sushi is probably one of my favorite things to eat. After hearing some good things I decided to check out Kooma. The sushi was great, service was not so great. I've been in packed restaurants and have had better service. Our waiter only came by the table once to take our drink order - he maybe checked in one other time to ask us if we wanted our check before we even got our sushi rolls. The other person helping him out was the one who eventually took our order. Even he asked us if we wanted our check before we got our food. It was all just a communication mess. As for the food - sushi was great, the gyoza I could have done without, the lemon drop was also pretty good. I don't mind paying for quality sushi but I also expect quality service. While visiting from out of town, we decided to order online for pick up from this place. We ordered mostly nigiri plus a few rolls. We assumed that as customary in nearly every sushi restaurant we have ever eaten at, the nigiri was priced for 2 pieces per order, especially considering that the online ordering says nothing to indicate otherwise. The prices were already on the more expensive side for what we thought would be for 2 pieces of nigiri per order and their special rolls. But we figured "must be really good and worth it" and ordered anyways. Ladies and gentlemen, it is not. Worth. It. We bring our food home to find that we have half the nigiri pieces we were expecting because this places ridiculously charges $4+ for 1 piece of nigiri...that's a single piece of fish on a small ball of rice. The special rolls, while good, are also still overpriced. But the robbery of the nigiri prices is what bothers me the most. I can't believe this place has somehow convinced people to pay these prices. Maybe it's because this area doesn't have as much diversity for alternative options, but really disappointing to see them take this big of an advantage. read more

Our table was ready as soon as we arrived. While waiting for the rest of the group, I went to the bar for a martini, and I was greeted and served almost instantly. I went there for a large group gathering, and we didn't have to wait very long for our orders. The food is pretty good. Everything about my order was brought just how I asked for it. The downside here is that our waiter was a little rude. He almost never asked us if we needed anything, and his replies were very short and ill-tempered. It was difficult for us to get his attention, and everyone at our table noticed our waiter's lack of friendliness. Aside from that, the service didn't give us any issues. read more

I was super disappointed with the service and food quality here. I was a frequent visiter but this visit my waiter was extremely rude and literally threw the check on the table for absolutely no reason. The service was extremely slow and he never came and checked on us. Additionally one of my friends ended up in the hospital with food poisoning after dinner. Was there with a few friends for a birthday party. I love the atmosphere they created at Kooma. The TV at the entrance is very nice too. However, the sushi was not well made. They sushi rice didn't stick and there was not much integrity of each piece. My wife ordered the Korean Bulgogi, which was not all that good. Just left the restaurant for the third time in a couple of weeks for takeout. I will think long and hard about coming back. I mentioned to the person behind the bar that takes care of the takeout orders that the shrimp fried rice from last week had 3 small pieces of shrimp in the whole order. The response was "I am not responsible for what they put in the orders" and he also commented he knew they were stingy with certain food items. Worst dining experience ever!! For starters I was here with a group of 8 so I excepted it to take a litter longer then normal but I've been here for 3 hrs! It took an hour for food to get to the table while we were watching others whom were seated after us eatin. The waitress keep forgetting our drinks. The food was good but the service was so not worth it. When we finished eating it's took 30 mins just to get the bill then she informed us she could not split the bill only three ways. The waitress took another 45 mins swiping our card. The worst part about it is the waitress charger 3 peoples cards for a bunch a different amount twice. The owner was acting like he could have cared l what was going on and didn't really help much. He did give us a gift card because of the bill was so messed up but I'm not even sure if I want to come back because the service was horrible. read more

This used to be a very good place for sushi but after tonight's meal, I don't think it is anymore. Sushi rolls are smaller rolls for $20. Other dishes (teriyaki beef and seafood soup) we ordered were very salty. The wings were good. We advised the waiter that food was very salty. Not sure if we would return .. SLOW service. Waited at LEAST 20 minutes for meal when there was only 5 other tables occupied for lunch. Had to ask for Miso Soup when entree was presented which was supposed to come with meal (waitress said they were low on the soup, that's why they didn't originally bring it out). I'd like the think my last review was the impetus for the improvements I noticed on this visit. Perhaps not, but they seem to have resolved the issues at heart. The Nigiri and rolls we spot on, excellent;as they should be given the premium pricing they command. Noise level of the room was vastly improved. While still at a lively level, not even close to the previous visit, which was driven primarily by the choice to crank up the background music. As usual, the wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive; drinks were great. If you're looking for something a little more summer, order the Gangnam Style. read more

The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because the food was OK. The service was beyond horrible. No one came to our table for over 15 minutes finally one of the managers dropped waters at the table. Our waiter was completely incompetent. I have no problem waiting for food when a place is busy but we were ignored or forgotten which is very frustrating. For the price of a meal for two the service was unacceptable. If I plan to pay this much for sushi I will plan to go somewhere else. read more

Looks like a dance club inside with all of its colored lights and white walls, so when we walked in for lunch I had to read the menu to make sure I was in a restaurant. Our server was delightful though and our shushi lunch was awesome so we will certainly be back. read more

Excellent Asian in the heart of charming downtown West Chester. I recently ate dinner here with good friends who just moved to the area. The decor is modern with two bar areas and table + sushi bar seating. I would say the capacity is 100 people. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered 20 sushi pieces as an appetizer and they were all very good. The standout was the beef bibimbap. I love Korean food so my standards are high. That said, this bibimbap is one of the best I have ever had (and I've pretty much made the rounds at Korea town restaurants in NYC). It comes in a sizzling stone pot and the beef arrives raw so you mix and cook it yourself. What fun! We also ordered the spicy kooma noodle with shrimp. Very tasty and well prepared but a bit in the sweet side = hot sauce helped bring kick back to the dish. Drinks were a very good sake and Sapporo on tap. Only downfall it was entirely too loud in such a small area no one could hear each other. They don't have a private parking lot so u need to either pay on street or in a garage. Had some sushi in here tonight. Service was extremely slow, they told us the bar was packed but they kept on bringing food to parties coming in after us. They're extremely unwelcoming to constructive feedback, their cosmopolitan looked and tasted nothing like a real cosmopolitan and they didn't like it when we told them about it. Unlike the Wilmington location which has a more subdued feel, this location has a high energy vibe. It is modern with mood lighting and pulsating music. I enjoy it and the energy of the younger college and professional crowd. Great sushi and speciality cocktails. Love the red tuna Caprese salad!! All the seafood is fresh and they have lots of choices. This is a great place to go for a date. The food is good. The cucumber martini is made for a hot day - cool and refreshing. Kooma is clearly trying to be young and hip. I fear we are neither. Toddler in tow, we arrive at the restaurant. It is hot. We are going out for an early dinner (5pm) because we do not have a working refrigerator and, also, sushi sounded good. (And early so we can get in and out and annoy the fewest people with our honestly well-behaved toddler.) The hostess gives us a once over before seating us. She is gone for a number of minutes before returning with a high chair. As we set out toddler in the chair, the toddler reaches for a plate, which we move out of her way. The hostess promptly clears the entire table and returns with plastic dishes. I understand the thought, but it was embarrassing and unnecessary. Because it has become clear that we aren't really the target clientele, we quickly decide what we want to eat so we can put the whole order in when the server arrives and not take too long. The server takes the drink order and before we can order food, leaves and doesn't return until the martini we ordered was made. Then he takes the toddler's order and leaves, returning a few minutes later with her bowl of noodles. Finally, he takes out order. This would be great service on a date. We had vegetable tempura and a couple of very delicious hand rolls - spicy tuna and a couple of specialty rolls that were really very good. The vegetable tempura had a greta variety of veggies - one each of squash, yam, onion, asparagus, and a couple of other things. So, the moral of the story, great good, great for a date or taking your adventurous parents when they're in. NOT great for kids. read more

Very very disappointed! The short rib tasted like over marinated low grade piece of meat. The roll I ordered which was supposed to be cooked in lemon was over cooked cooked in lime and terrible. I ordered a spicy noodle dish with chicken and the chicken was dry. Additionally although our waiter was pleasant and friendly the service was very slow. When I changed my order to replace the dry chicken I ordered some rolls. They took 20 minutes! Very very disappointed with Kooma. read more
