Hong Kong Cafes with a noodle focus almost always end up being my preferred places to chow down…read more Chui Hing (潮興魚蛋粉) is combines no nonsense service with killer food, along with affordable pricing and 24 hour availability to boot. The pretense is non-existent and locals (including myself!) seem to love it here. So like many noodle spots in HK, this place is fairly small. No big tables for 5+ but quite a few small'ish round tables that are good for solo eats or the invaluable food companion. The aroma coming from the semi-open kitchen should be enough inspiration for folks to know what they want upon arrival, but just in case they have the menus outlined along the wall. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right. Chui Hing does fancy itself as a HK style cafe, so other dishes like congee, fried fish skin, fried rice, may appear on the menu, focus on what to stack in your bowl instead. The staff is really helpful and welcoming.

Pretty good wonton noodle soup and milk tea. They're open 24/7 and very close to many local hotels…read more I only got takeout, but noticed great air conditioning inside. The prices are also very reasonable. I bought beef ball and wonton, wonton noodle soup. I didn't ask to have the noodles separate, but they still retained a good amount of chew by the time I got back up top the hotel. You can pay a little extra anywhere to ask them pack separate. The wontons are ok, beef balls are good, noodles are good, soup okay. The milk tea wasn't very strong but has a nice authentic back flavor. Everything was ready in under 5 minutes. Very good for takeout!

This review is only for the pineapple bun…read more I do not recommend. On multiple, multiple food review sites writing about the best pineapple bun in HK, Kam Fung made the list. Happened to be in wan chai today so why not- We got take out for two buns- one with butter and one without. But even before opening the package we knew something was wrong. Each bun was wrapped in plastic, but was so extremely heavy. How could a bun be so heavy? Opening it and taking a bite - it's like chewy raw dough. I'm not sure if it was really raw, but that's what it felt like. I couldn't finish it. I didn't even want to take a second bite, really. I'm actually very surprised at the good reviews on the bun here. Its one of the few times that Google reviews are more fair and accurate than Yelp reviews for me. Don't trust the lists!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get this bun!!!!

This Cha Chaan Teng is really for old school HK'ers. I was not a fan of any of their "baos"…read more.. Their milk tea was not great either. It didn't have the milk tea flavor... Perhaps it's just not for my kind of tastebud... my younger son liked his macaroni in soup. My older one did not like his "bor lor yao"... which is the pineapple bun with a thick piece of butter... all the baos were very dense... and not fluffy like other ones we've tried. The only saving grace - the Chicken Pie! It's crusty and flavorful. Anyway, small shop, a few tables and you will be sharing with strangers if you're solo. They do pour the left over soups into a bucket right underneath your seats... so not quite sanitary... but you'll live. Bring lots of wet naps. Cash Only.

I went for dinner and as I was solo, I opted for their prix fixe set menu- the "premium" set. In my opinion, the food was lacking in taste and quality despite the high price. Maybe I should have ordered individual dishes, but even their signature baked crab dish was too creamy and salty. Service was also lacking in my mind. The waiters seemed unenthusiastic and often would place the next dish without a word or a simple phrase like "dessert" without any additional comments or explanation... and often had a tense or unfriendly expression. It was also difficult to get their attention as they were often times hard to locate. Yes this is Hong Kong, but this is not a cha chaan teng, and i guess I expected a bit more quality in service and food from a former michelin starred restaurant.

The service here was top notch the best we had while visiting. I am so glad we had an opportunity to dine here. I do recommend you make a reservation. We tried to dine there again on our last day but everything was booked. They were able to fit us at 11:45 and even allowed us to order the Peking duck with no advanced notice. You must do so 24 goes in advance. Unfortunately the time did not work well for us so we cancelled the last minute reservation. We had their crispy half chicken the best I had while in HK. I ordered this dish everywhere! The Golden Leaf's was crispiest and the skin looked like glass! While the chicken was still very juicy! The mixed fried rice delicious! Our waiter was very sweet as they were almost closing getting ready for dinner dining offered us some more rice they had. I was too full but my fiancée was very happy to accept some more. I highly recommend this place even if you aren't staying at the Conrad give this place a try it will be worth it!

I have been here twice and have both times ordered the pork which is traditional version of the sandwich. They also have some interesting drink choices which are all Vietnamese. You can order a Vietnamese beer to go with your sandwich, line soda, or a Vietnamese coffee. The banh mi here is very good. The french bread is on point. The pate has a nice creamy texture and is not gamy. They put scallions in there sandwich. I enjoyed it but this may not be for everyone. If I wrote this review after my first visit I would say that this is the best banh mi O have had in Hon Kong. However, the second time around the bread wasn't as fresh and didn't have the crunchy exterior that I hope for in a baguette. This is probably because I had the sandwich close to dinner time. I will definitely come back when I am craving a banh mi.
