Small cars, tastefully tucked amongst the other decor really adds personality to the spot

I've been to Komakase for their tasting before, which was fantastic. I was blown away by the incredible care and preparation for the coffee showcased, and the coffee itself was fantastic (I'm not even a coffee drinker and more of a tea person!) If you are interested in the tasting experience, be very quick to reserve as reservations run out extremely quickly. However, this review is for a separate walk-in, and not for their tasting experience. After attending their tasting experience, I discovered that Komakase have a small walk-in menu available which rotates very frequently. The menu is great, and feels like a smaller version of the tasting experience I had. Clear information on what you're tasting, the notes, and the presentation were all present. You do miss out on the wonderful company of Kieran and Josh though, but all other elements are in place. The coffee for the walk in was top notch, along with the pastries they were paired with. Komakase itself is in a small space with warm vibes and small fun touches probably showcasing quirks of the baristas (a couple of Yu-Gi-Oh cards on display, some toy cars). Maybe less than a dozen seats available in total if you are there which can fill up as people really take time to indulge. There's indoor and outdoor seating, both which are excellent. It's not your grab and go spot, and better suited something between a coffee date to catching up with a friend. I would worry about there maybe not being enough seats once I arrive, but if you do snag a spot, it's a wonderful experience.

An amazing experience all around! Josh and Kieran were very accommodating with the planning, and it was such a well executed event. Intimate tasting with 6 seats at a time, and thorough explanations of the coffees and processes. Great for coffee lovers and someone (like myself), with basic coffee appreciation!

I had a wonderful time trying new coffee beans, tasting incredible coffee and food pairings, and learning about how to improve my home brewing technique+setup. Staff was kind and very informative. The presentation and structure of the seating was lovely (just 6 people). The counter is long so if you are away from the pour over scales, you may not interact with the barista as much. The baristas that run the event are very accommodating and happy to find dietary alternatives -- reach out in advance to help them source alternative food pairings.

Amazing service! I…read morecame as a party of 2 at 5:20 (just before opening) on a Saturday night and we were the last party to be seated as the first round of walk-ins! We got seated right by the window, so lovely! The ambiance is so nice and the decor is so cozy and cool. We got the free peanuts and cucumber salad first- so flavorful and a nice way to whet our appetite. The scallop vermicelli was SO buttery and flavorful. I wanted another order!! The claypot rice came steaming hot and full of meats! Get something to cut it with! The black bean clams were delicious but a tad salty so it's nice to have with the claypot, or even an order of veggies and plain rice! We ended our meal with shaved ice that was layered with black bean, custard, and boba! So refreshing and a perfect end! I would come back 10000%

Anyway, having tried it, I can say it was good, but not so good that I'd expend that much energy to secure the reservation. Have to say, service was really great. Servers were attentive without being overbearing, which is always welcome. We ordered several dishes and dined, as they suggested, family style. To start, we were given two complimentary dishes, the roasted peanuts and the smashed cucumbers; both were nice appetizers. We ordered the Chiu Chow green beans, the Mongolian beef noodles, the claypot rice with lop cheung and bacon, the salt 'n peppa prawns, and the whole fried petrale sole, the last two being on the day's "specials" board. The winning dish was definitely the green beans. All the food was good, but seemed to be a bit overly salted and highly spiced. The piece of beef I had from the Mongolian beef noodles was tender, but one of my friends thought her piece was a bit tough and too chewy; we all thought the beef could have been cut into smaller or thinner pieces. We also shared two desserts since it was a birthday celebration (there are only three options offered). We had the red bean shaved ice and the mango pudding. Both were good (not "oh, boy, yummy" good, but good). Nice to try. The price wasn't outrageous ($200 including tax and tip), but I think this will be a "been there, done that" experience for me unless a friend absolutely wants to go again.

This came with a stellar recommendation, and it definitely did not disappoint. The restaurant was beautiful and there's an open kitchen right in the middle. We were seated near the kitchen in a booth. I told our server that I am lactose tolerant, and she said something that I missed. She then walked away and came back with a pink slip with all the items on the menu on what I need to avoid and dishes that they can make modifications. I thought that was such a sweet touch that I've never experienced before. For appetizers, we got the tuna poke and pig head croquette. The fresh tuna poke on top of a crispy nori was a very tasty bite but the tuna was a bit chewy from the sinew. The pig head croquette was amazing. Perfectly fried and meaty bite. It paired well with the fresh cube of watermelon and fish caramel sauce. For entrees, the black cod was a huge surprise for me. I didn't think I would like it but it became the night's highlight. The fish was perfectly cooked and served on top of crispy rice with a very mild but impressionable coconut green curry sauce. The second highlight for me was the pork shoulder chop. Very tender and juicy cut with really good sauce. The miso cabbage and the candied pecans really gave that extra oomph to each bite. Lastly, the fried game hen was fried so perfectly and was super juicy inside. The pickled carrot was meh for me though. For desserts, we ended with a milk tea panna cotta with stone fruit granita and tuile. It was made with coconut milk which is for a lactose intolerant girly like me. Not a budget meal, but imo, well worth the gastronomical and hospitable experience.

Well balanced with vegetables and a nice lightly tangy sauce. The calamari has many vegetables fried together. Crispy and lightly crunchy. However, it was a bit on the saltier side for me. Finished it off with the Hawaiian cake and it was delicious. Torched marshmallows on the outside with a big scoop of ice cream on the inside, with a base of an ube cake. This dining experience was excellent. Also fascinating to see the open kitchen in the back where all the chefs are busy curating an excellent meal. I would suggest to get reservations otherwise you could wait up to 45 mins on a weekday (like I did) I came back to try a few more dishes. And my newly added favorite is the fried chicken. Super juicy, even with the white meat. The thousand island - like dressing was the perfect combo.
