It's been well over 2 years since I visited this location in Arvada. Based on photos I took then, no change of decor or increased prices. I wanted to try lower sodium dishes. The only ones I could find was a salmon bowl with brown rice and steamed vegetables. I skipped the Teriyaki glaze. Also, the Mandori Mango salad with Citrus Honey Vinaigrette on the side. Instead of soy sauce, I brought sesame sauce instead which was very spicy with chilis. They have no sushi bar, but still offer sushi rolls. No nigiri or sashimi. Lo and behold I was served as before by Kevin H. He was great. Instead of alcohol, I got strong iced tea. After this successful lunch, I added 2 scoops of green tea ice cream as a reward. read more

I've been coming to Kokoro for years and it never disappoints! If you're looking for quick service food that's healthy and happy on your body, this is the spot! Kokoro is not fancy by any means, but it feels like a family restaurant. Very welcoming with a simple menu. I tried the ginger tofu & it tasted too sweet? This was not for me... I like the tang, almost spice, of ginger. However, their tempura shrimp is always a must & I love their teriyaki bowls. What I really like about this place is the simplicity without taking away the quality of the food, and the ambiance where you can meet up with friends for conversations while eating a simple meal. Walking in, we were not greeted by anyone but our friends who were there already, motioning us to the table. Seated, we looked over the menu, which were filled with plenty of food choices front and back. The friends we were meeting here always get pretty much the same food: Kokoro bowl (beef and chicken), chicken bowl, and California rolls. Since we have never dined here, I chose the spider rolls and a beef bowl (super), and my husband chose the Kokoro bowl, and for $1 more, he substituted the white meat option instead of the offered dark meat. The spider rolls I ordered came with 4 pieces of soft shell crab, fried in a batter, and were wrapped in seaweed and rice. Cooked to perfection, these rolls were so good! They tasted so fresh too. This is one food item I would like to eat again and again whenever I visit this restaurant in the future. My beef bowl was very simple: rice underneath marinated beef with onions. It could use more juice from the beef, so I added some soy sauce, pickled ginger, and chili pepper powder. The added flavor to this dish enhanced my eating experience, because it was just enough heat for me to enjoyed the dish. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the staff made the eating experience here an enjoyable evening. If you want casual Japanese food without a big price tag, give Kokoro a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by their food, prices, and service. Their two locations, conveniently located in Denver (on Colorado Blvd) and Arvada (on Wadsworth), are easy to find. I would actually give it a higher rating, if it wasn't for the manager or at least she acts like she's the manager, older waitress been there for years, I tried to ignore her rude unprofessional attitude, but me and my girlfriends refuse to eat "in" there as long as she is working there. Very bossy to the other workers, extremely disrespectful to me, and my friends on several occasions. It's very charming inside to me, reminiscent of an old diner. It's clean and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The service was 11/10. The FOH manager tonight was so funny and everyone was kind. My server, Su, was the sweetest woman. She complimented me many times, was very patient and informative when explaining their rewards program and menu items, and she gave me Hi Chew candy at the end of my meal. (Their rewards program is just your phone number, and beer and sushi get discounted when you use it. You also get freebies over time which is awesome) So far in these past two visits I've had: Chicken curry with white rice: 3.5/5 stars - curry and rice were great, *IF* it was chicken katsu it would probably be 5/5 Tossed green salad: 4.5/5 stars - vegetables were so fresh. Vegetarian roll (avocado & cucumber): 5/5 stars - simple, satisfying, & perfectly made Green tea cheesecake: 3.5/5 stars - very tart and has a gelatinous texture to it. Maybe it's a Japanese way to prepare cheesecake, considering it was crustless. Didn't taste like green tea much at all. Was interesting though! Forest child soup: 5/5 stars!!! - The forest child soup will be something I order EVERY TIME I go. It is so comforting and delicious. Tuna Poke bowl: 3/5 stars - I wasn't a fan of the tuna so much, it tasted a little fishy and lemony Hot Green tea: 5/5 stars - very tasty, they give you a whole tea pot! They even pack it to go One of the biggest shocks to me was that the alcohol was all around $5 (Sapporo and Asahi!), when I usually see the same drinks at other restaurants for $7-$9. Got this place because it was on but 1 get one free for gyoza and chicken katsu on Uber eats and it was so bad. The rice was fine but that's kind of hard to mess up. The miso soup tasted so fishy and it was really gross. The katsu was sooooo thin I couldn't even taste the actual chicken. The gyoza was good but really oily it's like they didn't let them sit before packing. The bowl with noodles was just so off mark. My husband said it sat super heavy and the flavors were not there. We hadn't been to Kokoro for a long time because we had moved from the area so when we were recently in Arvada we stopped in to have one of our old favorites. Over the years we have tried probably the whole menu but this night I wanted just the regular beef bowl. I love the steamy hot rice with the juicy beef and flavorful onions. I, of course, topped it with the bright red pickled ginger. My husband added the vegetables to his which makes a more filling meal but for me the regular is just the right amount of food. Miso Ramen. Small in size but very expensive. Around $13 for a tiny sized portion. Seems like most of the menu items are very expensive here. The ramen was pretty good , just a poor value. Should be around $7 or 8 for such a small amount. read more

I stopped here for lunch recently. It was a really bizarre experience. I was seated and given a menu. Then a couple was seated to my right and then a couple to my left. A waitress took my order for a spicy tuna roll and a beef/rice bowl and a Coke. A few minutes passed and a different waitress came over and took the order for the table to the right of me, walked past my empty table, and took the order for the table to the left of me. She brought them their drinks and water while I sat, unattended. She then brought my food and looked completely taken aback when I asked if I could please have my beverage? At about that time, the first waitress showed up with my drink and went on and on about how she loved my hair? I just wanted to eat my food and leave. The roll didn't taste all that fresh, so I don't think I would order sushi here again. However, the beef bowl had a nice flavor to it and wasn't completely full of rice. I was nearly done when my waitress showed up with the check. Now she loved my shoes and wanted to know where I had purchased them. I had thought about ordering dessert, but now I just wanted to flee. I took my bill up to the register and she was standing there, still going on about my hair. I handed her a cash tip and couldn't get out fast enough. Good size interior. Decent food. Came here expecting to get quick, delicious, Japanese food (like it says on the sign). It was pretty cheap, but it was definitely not delicious. I ordered the Kokoro bowl, and got an order of philly rolls and a spring roll (which were both happy hour items). The bowl was decent enough, nothing to write home about but it was edible. The sushi on the other hand had a crazy weird aftertaste. I couldn't even finish 4 pieces. After we left I just kept thinking to myself "What really just happened? Did I just pay 15 dollars for something I couldn't even finish?" FYI I ALWAYS finish my food. After much contemplation I decided on 2 stars - simply for the fact that the service was good and the restaurant had a neat layout. But absolutely, positively not for the quality of food. I've probably driven by this place 100 times and I never would have guessed this restaurant had good eats if my man hadn't brought me in.
