Chicken katsu plate and a combo plate with spicy chicken and kalua pork
Lindsey M.

After a trip to Golden, this place is less than 15 minutes away. I was craving chicken katsu like how my aunty makes it for pot luck. And fortunately we didn't have to travel too far to get there. It screams L&L, but a little bit elevated. There's a picture menu so if you don't know what to get, you can at least see what to expect. I immediately knew I was getting the kastu, which came with two scoops of rice and mac salad. We also tried the kalua pork and spicy chicken combo. Which came with one scoop of rice and a house salad. The chicken kastu was perfectly crispy. But very thin. You get two layers though so it's filling. The mac salad is authentic and was also really delicious. Ok the combo was not great. The kalua pork was dry, there was no fat or juices from the pork whatsoever. It was more like pork floss. And the house salad was decent. I'm just not a huge fan of iceberg lettuce. There is a sauce station with soy sauce, katsu sauce, and teriyaki sauce. Everything was thin, watery, and super sweet. It's more like the consistency of a sweet sour sauce. If I had to choose one, I'd definitley recommend the teriyaki sauce. It had a great flavor. Just an unexpected texture. Overall, next time I crave a plate lunch I'm coming back.

This is an order for take out. I tried the Hawaiian BBQ Mix plate (tried the chicken, pork, ribs). All are good! The meats seemed grill so well. I was also a fan of the mac salad. Spam musubi was great (though I wish the spam portion was thicker). A big plus is the big portions!

After living in Arvada/Wheat Ridge for several years, I finally got to try out Kona Hawaiian BBQ and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The neighborhood is not really known for its diversity in food but Kona is a much-needed delicious Hawaiian BBQ spot. I've only tried their Aloha Plate with 2 sides (BBQ Chicken and Kona Fire Chicken) and spam musubi and everything was well-made and delicious. The Aloha Plate comes with either 1 side or 2 sides (2 sides was a dollar more), salad, cucumbers, and rice. The ratio of everything is perfect but I wish there was a bit more rice. Not a big deal at all. One thing I would like to point out in particular is that many, many places I've been to mess up orders when asked to put a sauce on the side or something similar but the people at Kona got everything perfectly. Thank you!

Totally different than anything else in the area. I was in a hurry so I grabbed some takeout. The dining room has a very aloha mahalo vibe and they seats were actually pretty comfortable. Great combos to try the menu. I was especially impressed with the sweet savory flavor of the beef. Easy ordering and they bring your food right to your table as soon as possible. Worth a try, I hope you like.

Food was really good and service was fast. Although we ordered at the register, the workers brought the food directly to our table. I really enjoyed the chicken katsu, it had a good taste and was crispy. The restaurant was very clean and there were lots of places to sit at. Would definitely visit again!

Great food, and something a little different for the area. Kona has become a regular stop in my rotation, and the service is always great. They have so many things I love. The chicken, the ribs, the macaroni salad. I highly recommend Kona!

Service is good , place is clean My go to order is either the short plate or the teriyaki chicken both are super good ! I will say it is super pricey but I guess it doesn't bother me as much since there isn't a lot of Hawaiian bbq around

I hit the grand opening even though it was pouring rain outside. I like the choices available. I ordered the mini meal with BBQ chicken. It comes with a scoop of rice, a scoop of mac salad and the seasoned meat is on a bed of sautéed cabbage plus some broccoli. The mini was a full meal! The portions are generous. The mini had a choice of protein from Chicken Katsu, Crispy Shrimp, Grilled Chicken Breast, Kona Fire Chicken, BBQ Chicken or BBQ Beef. Something for everyone. The larger plates also had more selections of proteins. I want to go back and try their musubi. I saw others having it and it looked really good. My only drawback was hearing when they called my number. The ambient noise in the room with many people made it hard to hear. A crowd at your restaurant is not bad problem to have. I look forward to going back.

3.5* We grabbed take out the other night and ordered lots to try! Super friendly staff and fairly quick service. They were slammed with carry out orders. Spam musubi was new for my husband and this was a great first try!! May have been the star of the show! Highly recommend if you enjoy or have not ever tried. Crab rangoons were cream cheese heavy and did not come with a dipping sauce like they typically do when dining in, which was unfortunate. Kona Fire Chicken had great flavor but some of the chicken was charred, enjoyed the cabbage and onions with it. Kalua Pork was SUPER dry and a bit disappointing. We did a combo plate to try a few more entrees and it was a very thin layer of protein on top of a TON of rice. Wish we would have gotten a little more meat for the price. Same goes for the bbq beef next to it, flavor was a great though. The salad was a mix of iceberg lettuce with some shredded carrots and shredded red cabbage and the 5 cucumbers on top with the smallest bit of dressing, also very disappointing. Had high hopes as they are one of the only accessible solely-Hawaiian restaurants from downtown and the staff were kind but the food just missed.

When you dine here memories of Hawaii will occupy your mind. I know, the other fast food place is like good too. The main difference between the two is square footage. Design. Portion? No matter what-theyre both appreciated very much. This is one Kalbi ill be going back to soon!

I ordered Kona fire chicken. This plate is supposed to be spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. I had it before in Ca.

Tell me why they don't have edamame, crispy tempura, crispy onions, like without crispy things u might as well order some mash potato slop because it's gonna be squishy as hell. Also the way they cut their cucumbers don't expect small crispy bites it's soggy too. Their sauces are bomb I respect the sauce but dam they are never fully stocked it's a shame. Every time I try to order food from here they're missing ingredients last time it was literal salmon I legit had to tell my man to walk out of the store I was so frustrated and am very hangry now lol idk where to get good poke someone please help me!!!! PS went to Rocky fin it was also TERRIBLE the public needs to know the truth about these places and the quality and consistency of ingredients. I understand supply chain issues but not having edamame for a poke bowl restaurant is insane go to a grocery store at least for ur product, my managers would go to Whole Foods when we ran out of product and did mark outs maybe u should try that

Their no alcohol cocktails are just as thoughtful, balanced, and well presented as their alcoholic ones, which made the experience feel intentional instead of like an afterthought. I tried several drinks, including their no alcohol Mai Tai, Painkiller, and a few tropical forward options, and every single one was well balanced and flavorful. Nothing felt overly sweet or flat. The Anchored Tides in particular stood out with a bold, bitter profile that still felt refreshing. The food was also solid. The spam musubi and wings were both really well done and paired nicely with the drinks. The space is fun, vibey, and welcoming, especially if you're not drinking and still want to feel included. This is a great spot whether you're doing Dry January or just want a well crafted drink without alcohol. I'll definitely be back.
