The food was okay, I was expecting/hoping for more. I wanted a teriyaki chicken but I wanted it to be crunchy, however they don't toss or coat the katsu chicken in sauce they only put it on the side. Thank god that's what i did because the sauce was too strong, it was pungent as if it had too much vinegar or something similar. The chicken had a nice crisp to it, the mac salad was actually really good, and the rice was piping hot and perfectly cooked. When I got home I ate my leftovers with a sweet chili sauce and it did the meal way more justice. Also the chicken was absolutely bland, not a stitch of seasoning or flavor. I couldn't see myself coming back, but after providing my own sauce it was actually really good. read more

I'm so happy to discover that there is a good Hawaiian place here that isn't the chain restaurant. We ordered from Uber Eats and the food arrived fast, fresh, and the katsu was crispy. They do give you a decent amount of food so fantastic proportions. The katsu and galbi were full of flavor. We also ordered the bbq platter and it was good but the ribs were my favorite of the options. I can't remember much about the bun but it was good too. The spam musubi was wonderful and great way to satisfy a craving. Sadly, our popcorn chicken did not come with our order so we will need to come back physically to order and try the food there. After hearing about this place a few weeks ago, we finally ventured to Thornton to give this place a try. Overall, we enjoyed the entire experience we had at Today Hawaiian BBQ. The woman at the counter was friendly and took our order right away. The restaurant is decorated to match the theme of this restaurant. We ordered the 2 combo plate lunch and were not disappointed. I ordered Teri Beef and Kalua Pork. It came with two scoops of rice, a side salad and a scoop of mac salad. The teri beef was my favorite, but the kalua pork was lacking salt and had too much liquid smoke. Nothing some shoyu couldn't fix though. My husband ordered the 2 combo plate lunch as well but with galbi and chicken katsu and enjoyed it very much! The absolute winner for me was the crispy gau gee. So good!! The only note is that they are a little small in size and not a ton of filling. We are used to the massive ones we get from chinese restaurants in HI but we will take what we can get in CO haha Over all, this place is worth a try if you are in the area. read more

Decent Hawaiian BBQ other than L&L. Came here during the weekday so it wasn't busy. The open sign wasn't on and I thought I missed them but luckily they were open. Ordered a spam musubi, mochiko chicken and a katsu curry (I asked why kind of curry and she said it was yellow curry). Musubi was good, not a huge piece of spam but the taste was good. Katsu curry was ok.. def not use to the yellow curry and made my own Japanese curry to put over and it was perfection. Was getting water across the way and while waiting there, I noticed this little hole in the wall spot. I love myself some good macaroni salad and I'm new here from Cali so I thought why not and it did not disappoint in any way shape or form the macaroni salad is super flavorful. I got the loco moco. I really really wanted to give them a better review. I've ordered from here pre-pandemic through delivery service and I thought they had made a mistake but never came back to try until recently.. I ordered the Chicken Katsu both times. I probably should have confirmed before ordering but forgot my experience from 2019 until after I placed my order. Totally my bad. Are they legit? Not their Chicken Katsu, don't get it if you've had L&L or other hole in a wall places from the Islands. The Chicken Katsu here is unlike anything authentic and is a mashed mushy chicken patty (like da kine you get from the store with rib meat and other stuff added). The lady at the register claimed it's real chicken and they made the patty from scratch.. according to her, when they first opened, there were customers complaining about how the real chicken katsu was too tough to chew for their matured audience so they did it this route to ease their palate. She also mentioned if you want katsu katsu, tried their pork katsu as it's a solid piece of meat, breaded and fried. (For real? Chicken Katsu was harder to chew than Pork Katsu?) Here are the good stuff - katsu sauce was good, musubi was good, rice was good, mac salad was borderline good and the portion size was good - even with raised prices with inflation, they didn't pull a shrinkflation either. If you have sensitive nose, probably want to do take out as the nail salon next door is pungent for sure... didn't take away from my experience but in case it does impact you some kind of way, get it to-go. I'll be back to try their pork next time or other items on the menu but stay away from their Chicken Katsu if you're a 'local' like me who grew up on the islands. Go to other places, heck, make your own at home. On their Chicken Katsu alone, 3 star is being generous. Feeling baited because I wish they state that on their menu that the Chicken Katsu is NOT authentically Hawaiian - also their picture shown for Chicken Katsu is real chicken meat.... So glad to stumble upon Today Hawaii BBQ! Spam musubi was super delicious!! I ate two of them immediately and they are great warm (I have two more saved for tomorrow so I hope I can warm them up). Wasn't too fond of the manapua so I would just load up on more musubi in the future. The grilled garlic shrimp was very tasty, as was the BBQ combo - I opted for 2 combo platter of chicken and pork, which included a small side salad and macaroni salad. I went to pick up for takeout, it's a small very casual spot so only a couple of people were dining in but there were lots of other takeout orders. Always amazing! Had it for my birthday lunch with my fellow coworkers and this small plate, still way to much to eat! We had ours Door Dash, which is very helpful. Small Garlic Butter Shrimp ($13) We decided to take a chance on this restaurant as our other favorite Hawaiian place (L&L) does not deliver. It definitely satisfied our Hawaiian cravings. My favorites were the Loco Moco, which was slathered in delicious gravy. The spam misubi was also good. I also enjoyed their Hawaiian Mac which had a peppery feel to it. The shrimps were disappointing. They were definitely overcooked and we could not tell the difference between the BBQ and Garlic. I guess the only place to really get good garlic butter shrimp is, well, Hawaii! read more

I was a little disappointed in this place! All of the food seemed to be pre-cooked because it came out ridiculously fast for the amount that we ordered. It just wasn't fresh and was greasy. The portions are very large though. The restaurant is small. There are only a few tables inside but, it is really cute. They had Hawaiian music playing and Hawaiian decor throughout the restaurant. Decided to order in today so I could spend some time shoveling the driveway fun and have a mes delivered to replenish my energy and Hawaiian bbq just seemed right. I say Today Hawaiian BBQ was close and decided to give them a try. I'd say overall they were OK. The meat quality was just ok; the bbq pork was a bit tough, and the bbq chicken had some fatty bits on it, but as you can see from the order it is a massive portion. It also came with a salad which I did not touch and did not bother to take a picture of lol. All in all I would probably try them again if I went into their brick and mortar. It would be nice if you could choose your proteins for the mixed plates because I think I would have much rather had the Kaluha Pork than the bbq but whatever. All in all it satiated me to finish my driveway shoveling and there is plenty left to share with Alfie so I guess I really can't complain. read more

First time ordering...our office group was hungry so we decided to get some food delivered. We used Yelp/Grubhub to get food into Our bellies ASAP! We ordered before the restaurant opened and that gave me a bit of an odd interaction but once the restaurant opened and accepted our order things were right on track. We had food an hour from opening. That was fine. We had bbq chicken, pork, beef, chicken katsu and dumplings...all delicious. Portions were great and it felt like we got our money's worth. The flavors were yummy. Portions big and food arrived warm. The strawberry smoothly was delicious. Wow so good. Highly recommend and will likely try this again. read more

The service was nice, but the food didn't even come close to local Hawaiian style food. The mochiko chicken was super sweet and was mostly batter. The rice was over cooked, almost like mochi-gummy rice balls. The garlic shrimp had garlic, but swam in some weird sauce. I would suggest if you're craving some Hawaiian style local food, skip this one...unless you live within walking distance and are ok with paying $$ for not so great food. read more

My husband and I love this place. We order takeout from it a couple of times a month. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. It's also a mom and pop place, and the owner is really nice. However, recently they switched the container in which they serve the food and I noticed that the amount of food we're getting now is not the same as before. This is especially true for the curry, which used to be enough to wet the two scoops of rice that they give you and now it's enough for a scoop and a half. Additionally, as shown in the picture, they are now serving less rice (one scoop instead of two) and putting the macaroni salad in the same container as the main dish; the macaroni salad used to come in a separate container. I also used to have about 5 to 6 pieces of leftover chicken katsu after eating the two scoops of rice with the curry, and now I barely have one piece left. I don't think they're serving less food on purpose, I think this is the result of switching to smaller containers. read more
