We recently had Koko Wings for a baby shower at work so, I decided to have it again for lunch today. And as per usually it did not disappoint. Today I had the lunch special which consist of 6 pieces soy garlic wings with sweet potato fries and honey mustard on the side. I placed a preorder and it came in the time frame it said it was going to come. Everything from here is delicious. We arrived here on a Friday night looking for food to eat on the UWS. Located near Columbia university, it can get packed with undergraduate students looking to satisfy their craving for Korean fried chicken. There is not a ton of seating here, there is one table for a party of 6/7 but other than that it can get crowded real fast. They specialize primarily in their chicken, which is definitely quite lovely. My friends and I ordered one soy garlic large wings with a side of fries, and for the both of us being quite hungry, we were able to quickly devour it. The soy garlic wings were quite solid. It took about 15 mins for it to come out and they were nice and crispy. I was a big fan, maybe I was just hungry and needed something to satisfy my cravings but regardless, my friends and I quickly went through these wings. I think if coming here, it can get quite crowded so it might be worth to order ahead and grab this to go unless you are with a party of two. The service is quite nice. came to Koko Wings this past Sunday with my boyfriend, and unfortunately, we were very disappointed with both the service and the overall experience. To start, we asked if we could have the soy garlic sauce on the side instead of directly on our wings. Our waitress initially told us yes, but said there would be an additional charge, which I already found confusing since we were simply asking for the sauce that would have gone on the wings to be served on the side. After speaking with the kitchen, she came back and told us they were not allowed to give us the sauce on the side at all. The second issue was even more frustrating. There is a chalkboard displayed in the restaurant stating that customers can receive a free cocktail or mocktail for posting on Instagram or leaving a Google review. After we finished eating, my boyfriend left a Google review. We were then told that it actually needed to be a Yelp review because they were trying to get more reviews on Yelp. We pointed out that the sign clearly said Google review. After that, our waitress told us she could not remove the cocktails from our bill to honor the free drinks from the review, because she had already printed the receipt and that we needed to notify her beforehand. That made very little sense to me. Why would we leave a review about a restaurant's food and service before we've actually finished experiencing the food and service? And why wasn't she able to just reprint a new reciept? Overall, the entire situation felt unnecessarily difficult and poorly communicated. Between the inconsistent information, lackluster service, and food that we found to be subpar, the experience was disappointing, especially being that we were the only ones in the restaurant. Koko Wings - Upper West Side (106th St) Stumbled upon this tiny, cozy spot today while wandering on 106th & Broadway. First time inside, and I loved it! The staff was super friendly--she even brought me soup and water while I waited. The miso was perfect! Ordered the lunch special--6 wings and rice--and also took home 14 wings (drumettes and flats). The wings? Crispy, salty, and so good I dipped them in ranch for the first time ever--game changer. The inside was tender, and the crispy exterior was . I needed to grab some lunch and so I figured why not walking in the neighborhood over to Koko wings. I really enjoy Korean fried chicken and so I ordered the chicken strips with soy and garlic sauce. I must say that it was so delicious. The chicken was perfectly fried. Not all hard and petrified.. And the flavor was amazing. I had that along with some brown rice. The staff was very nice, kind and accommodating. As far as the ambience, it's a small eatery with about five or six tables. They have some cool K-pop playing in the background at a comfortable level. When I think of Korean fried chicken, I think of K-Town downtown in Manhattan. But I am so glad that we have this great option on the Upper West Side . I no longer have to go downtown for my KFC! The staff were kind but seemed to forget about our presence a few times while we were there. Everything at the restaurant was a bit sticky (menus, floors, tables, etc.), but perhaps part of this was because we took over another party's table before someone was able to step in and clean the area. The food itself was alright. The soy garlic sauce was sweet but not overly sweet. The spicy chicken wasn't very spicy but still enjoyable. The rice that I got as a side was the perfect consistency--sticky and not dry. The parmesan fries were disappointing; they were far too salty and should likely have been served with ketchup. Came here on a rainy day...the restaurant is very quaint and cozy! Honestly, I think this place is underrated when it comes to Korean Fried Chicken. We ordered the half and half combo with soy garlic and hot and spicy (some wings/some drumsticks). The crunch factor was unreal and the soy garlic sauce was heavenly for me (just wished there was a little more sauce on the wings). The hot and spicy was also good but be ready for some real spice. Oh my. Im writing this review as im eating the food I just got. (Takeout.) I'm so so disappointed. This place is good for wings and that's it. Every time I've ordered other actual dishes, I've had negative experiences. Today I gave it a try again since it's been awhile and ordered tofu stew alongside my chicken combo which i normally order. I rarely say this about places using extreme words but this is just disgusting. The soup is watery, has no flavor and the vegetables are nearly raw! They literally just threw everything in here carelessly. This is offensive to be listed as a Korean food. My hope is that people try this place and NOT assume this is what Korean food is supposed to taste like. I think they need to take these less than mediocre dishes off their menu and just focus on the wings. The wings are flavorful and good, although over the years I've noticed the meat sizes have gotten significantly smaller.... Not sure if I'll order here again. read more

Considering that this was a lunch special, it felt really expensive for the amount of food we received (legit sad/disappointed after opening the takeout boxes). We really enjoyed the chicken though. The spicy sauce wasn't that spicy and had a sweetness to it. I prefered the original as it had a nice amount of saltiness.
