I am nervous trying new salons. But I needed a change so I decided to change everything, new salon, new stylist. I booked an appointment with no idea who I might get. My stylist is Amber. She listens to what you say, gives great tips and ideas. And is the sweetest person ever. I often love my cut the minute I leave, but will hate it when I try to recreate the pro look at home. She gave me the steps on how to get it done. I haven't had someone help me so much before. I am not the kind of human who does much with their hair, mostly for lack of ability. I has been a month since I was there and not once have I had any regrets. The salon is easy to get too from 156 street. There is ample parking. Friendly staff all around. There was a candy bar when you walk in, you already stole my heart! I really love online appointment booking because my schedule is a little nuts so being able to search for option without having to go back and forth via text messages or over the phone is a major plus for me. Talk about total redemption! I got a call several weeks ago from the owner of KoKo, wanting to touch base with me about my review. Now, my pervious review wasn't terrible; there was a lot that I liked about the salon. He felt, however, that they could do better. He was right. First, he told me that the stylist that did my hair for my first visit was no longer with them due to the quality of her work. I also found out that I never received their customary follow up call, even though it had been marked down that I had. To get me to give them another go, and to restore my confidence in the salon, he offered a cut and style on the house. I already had a cut and style booked for that weekend, as I was going to a wedding, but I assured him I would get in touch for anything I needed in the future. Lo and behold, the appointment I had fell through, and not only did he manage to squeeze me in on short notice, he came in early to make sure he could help me out. Aside from going above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my salon experience, I am in love with my cut. Roshan listened to me and made suggestions, and I can honestly say I haven't been this happy with my hair in years. He actually took the time to explain what he saw as problem areas in my hair and talked about what he was going to do to fix the issues. I got many complements on my hair, and that hasn't happened since my wedding. Bottom line: I am so happy to have found a business that will go out of the way to fix things that have gone wrong, and I will be back. read more

When you move to a new city, sometimes it can be hard to find a new salon that is the right fit. I had done quite a bit of research before settling on KoKo, which I felt would be my best option. When I'd called in, the earliest appointment that would work with my schedule was almost two weeks out - this is a good sign. As impatient as I can usually be, I forced myself to wait the the week to get in here, rather than going somewhere else to get in right away. I am so glad that I found out about KoKo, it was worth the wait and this will be my Edmonton salon going forward. The husband and wife team (Roshan & Alann) have done a great job at creating a warm, clean, modern, and comfortable salon. From the moment I walked in and was greeted by a personalized welcome message at the front desk, to the moment I was leaving with a perfect cut and color plus gift box, the service and care were terrific. You can tell that they like what they do, and that they care about the customers and the entire experience. Both Alann and Roshan took the time to talk to me, look at some of my inspiration pics and discuss my budget (I knew it would be more than the cuts and coloring I'd had done in Halifax, and I wanted to be able to tip). They know hair and know what will work for each individual. You can feel comfortable giving them creative freedom and I am confident you will love the results. The conversations were great, time flew by quickly, and I am incredibly happy with how it turned out. It's worth it to get your hair done by the best in the city and to pay a little more for quality and skill. They have won multiple awards for their work plus they teach. I am going to try harder to get in on a more regular bases rather than my usual six months between cuts and color. I am also a huge fan of their big dog, who is a rescue. I look forward to walking into Koko, not just because I know that I'm going to walk out with beautiful hair but because from the moment you walk through the door the girls treat you like you're part of the family. So friendly and welcoming. Alann is amazing. I love that she can be honest about my requests in explaining what will be best for my hair but still coming close to the pictures I show her without the damage. Not only does she know my hair but she also knows I'm not a maintenance person and guides me in which color processes will work best without the upkeep. She gets me. Shay normally dries my hair and she always remembers how I like it styled even if I'm only in every 6-8months . I just had my first experience at Koko salon, and I will never go to another salon again. From the moment I made the phone call to the moment I walked in the door, where I was happily greeted and seated, with access to the cute candy bar at the desk it was amazing. Sasha was my stylist and she was so friendly and helpful and listened to me every step of the way ensuring I also left happy, even though what I wanted wasn't able to happen yet. The husband and wife who are owners of this salon both came and got to know me and my hair as well and gave excellent tips, assisted with the process and provided excellent customer service. I was seated in the chair where I was offered a drink/ snack menu which was complimentary, the level of customer service at this place is a 10. I came from an awful salon experience, my hair was at its worst, and even though I was not able to achieve exactly what I wanted this visit because of the condition of my hair, which most salons would have done anyways they did everything they could to ensure I was happy with it in the meantime, they explained everything so I understood and they helped me with he products I need to get my hair healthy again. I am beyond happy with my whole experience and would suggest anyone who's looking like I was to stop and book your appointment here, you won't regret it! read more

Wow. I mean, wow. After moving to Edmonton from Montreal, I can't believe the experience I just shared with KoKo. For the first time in my life, a stylist and hair professional, (as well as my now new KoKo Hair Avenger), talked to me about strategy with my hair. After discussing what I liked and did not, they surprised me with a snack menu and an adult drink bar. And this was all part of the solid haircut and style, all part of the KoKo Experience. I went to this salon based on the reviews and I must say the service that I received what AMAZING!!!! As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a sign that welcomed me as a new client. This small gesture made me feel special and that they appreciated my business. Once getting settled in my chair, I was given a menu where I could select a warm or cold beverage-ranging from tea and coffee to wine along with a snack of my choice (ranging from sweet, salty or gluten free). Could it get any better? Yes it did! I had the pleasure to have Sasha work with me in making the decision of what to do with my very thin blonde hair. Sasha listened to my concerns and what my experiences have been in the past. I was thinking about getting bangs but was worried that they would make me look childish. Sasha worked her magic with the colour-giving me a colour that does not wash me out but allows me to have the light shades that I wanted. My hair was trimmed and then the decision to cut my front and give me some bangs happened. I closed my eyes, took a breathe and didn't look until she was done. The ending..... I left with a big smile and haven't looked back. I love my colour and the cut is so refreshing. Sasha and the rest of the Koko team continuously checked in with me to make sure that I was comfortable. I finally gave in to their treats and had a homemade chocolate and peppermint cookie. It was to die for and I questioned myself as to why I didn't give in sooner. I would recommend Koko Salon to any who would listen. This is not a place where they push a style on you or don't listen to you. The owners work there day in and day out, they pride themselves on customer service and have won in my eyes. I am pretty sure that this is the best salon I've ever gone to. I had never heard of them until I met the owners at a dog park (our dogs are buddies). I desperately needed some work done on my hair, and booked an appointment with Shelby. She is fabulous! I was really happy with how I looked once she finished, and have been every time I've gone there. The owners Alann and Roshan are also always there and come to chat and get to know their clients. Clients also get a small plate of cookies and a choice from a vast array of beverages, which shows that they are committed to making the client feel special. Not only are the staff friendly and skilled, but they have been finalists in and won some awards at the Contessa Awards. Not many stylists have such prestigious credentials under their belts. My husband regularly goes to KoKo, and word of mouth among people we know has sent more and more clients their way. They also carry my new favourite brand of hair products, Alcove, which is affordable and great for my hair. They allow online booking, which for those who hate using phones (eg. me), is really handy. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by Sasha the lovely manager of the salon, she took my sweater to be hung up and I had a chance to take in my surroundings. The front desk had jars of candy to be enjoyed and there was a sweet little framed note welcoming myself (and three others) since we were new customers. That's a great touch and it immediately made me feel right at home and that I was in the right place to be taken care of. The decor is minimal but tasteful and well done. Sasha was my colourist and upon sitting in the chair she asked me questions. The right ones and I immediately knew I was in the right hands. I told her I was wanting to take my very dark hair up many levels to try out this neat grey hair trend. She informed me that to achieve it, and to keep my hair healthy, it would be a months long process (which I anticipated) but that it would look fabulous each stage of the journey. She asked me if I'd consider an ombré treatment to allow my ends to lighten and become even (at home dying processes had left many bands of colour that she needed to address) while allowing my roots to remain my natural colour. I had never thought I'd like such a thing but figured heck, I'm thinking of going all over grey, (I'm 33) so let's get funky. We agreed on what she'd do and then before she mixed my colour she provided me with a menu with a selection of drink choices and a choice between three snacks. After my colouring, I was handed over to Alyssa for my cut. She finished my rinsing and shampooing (their rinse chairs are comfy, and they don't make your neck feel like it's about to fall off) and gave me a fabulous head massage. Alyssa, I really do love you for that....please start offering it as a chargeable service because I could have an hour long one and be in heaven. She then wrapped my hair in a towel and it ended up in a cute little bun...so cute! Towel came off, my hair was wet and...oh my god! I could immediately tell that I LOVED IT! Wow. Alyssa began asking about my hair, what did I like about it, was there any concerns I have, how I like to style it and how I'd like to continue styling. She listened and gave me a perfect cut to complement my new perfect colour. I booked a follow up appointment for 7 weeks and I can't wait to see what my next hair stage will look like. This is my second visit to KoKo and I am blown away. Walking in, all I knew was I needed colour and a trim to liven my hair. We started with a consultation to decide what would best suit my skin tone. We also talked about how the colour would change over the next few months. It is this consideration that demonstrates the level of knowledge and skill the KoKo staff have. Thinking back, I appreciate that we discussed how my colour would fade, as I rarely follow the "6 week cut" rule. Service, snacks and drinks were great. But what's most important: I got an amazing colour and even better cut. Don't get me wrong, I have had good colouring in the past, and the occasional solid cut, but never twice in a row. Most times I leave a salon with too much hair cut off and a just noticeable difference in colour. But KoKo is two for two so far, and I love how healthy my hair looks. KoKo works as a team to contribute to what I call the "diva experience", and I would recommend all of their staff. Both times I had my hair done by Tanis, and as I have said before, both times she has rocked out my hair. I will definitely be returning to her when I require hair maintenance. If you are worried about the prices at KoKo then I would absolutely recommend Tanis, as she is the most affordable. Looking good is a big part of feeling good, and KoKo has certainly left me feeling great about the way my hair looks. Give them a chance to work their magic, you won't be let down! read more

So I am looking for a new salon to go to ....read the reviews, talked to some people, and decided to use the online booking service offered by this salon (which I love the option). Being a retired hairstylist myself who has never really recieved the gift of being pampered in a salon, I thought I would now start looking for a salon I could really go to, be a regular client and experience what I spent many years doing for others :) I booked my appointment, and within a few days, recieved a call from the receptionist regarding my appointment, which was over three weeks away yet. She tells me that she is calling to give me a "heads up" that my appointment may NOT happen and they will let me know by the Wednesday before, as they wont have time to blowdry my hair and I would have to leave with wet hair. WHAT???? She said they will do their best, but she cant guarantee the appt at this point. (So what is the point)? She says the salon will do everything it can to accommodate this appt, but again, its not guaranteed. Made no sense to me at all. After giving it a few minutes of thought, I called back, explained that I would already be waiting for 3 weeks for the appointment, which was fine, but that I wasnt willing to risk having it cancelled at the last minute. I told her I was looking for a new salon, and one of the reasons why, was because of situations like this. She offered no alternative, no rebooking, no apology...just kept repeating that they wouldnt have time to blowdry. Again, totally didnt understand what was happening and asked her to cancel my appt as I would need to start searching somewhere else. I am a loyal, regular client and am honestly just looking to find a great new stylist ! What a dissappointment. :( read more

I want start off by saying the salon is very clean and well kept. I liked the fact that they had a "candy bar" for you to choose candies before your service. Most places aren't as considerate. The place had parking which was a asset. They also had all the photography of the work they had done on their windows which make me feel confident about my choice about coming here. The colour I received was ok.... For the price I paid I just feel it was mediocre if that. The highlights were streaky and blotchy. She said the toner would blend it but however, I had friends ask me if I had put dots in my hair...... Embarrassing!!!!!!!!! After that I got my haircut by this girl with short purple hair who at first seemed a little timid, but at least she nailed my haircut. That may be the only reason I paid what I did. She made me feel comfortable and actually listened to what I wanted.... I was trying to pay attention to her suggestions but I couldn't because all I could hear is the owner of the salon yelling at another coworker in the back room (I think he thought no one else could hear) it was so awkward and uncomfortable I just wanted to leave. As a woman and a business owner I would never let anyone yell at me or throw things like this man did at employees to cause fear in them. I quickly left after my haircut feeling like i should have said or done something for that employee.... Never do I write these comments. Nor do I like Yelp. But to this day, I regret not confronting him and telling him how he should treat his employees and staff.... Your employees and staff make a business!!! And the fact from what I heard his two employees have only been there for 4 months to 1 year(the manager) (glamorized title) one word of advice---don't go there unless you want to have an uncomfortable experience of hearing staff get yelled at in the back room accompanied by things being thrown Against the wall. Ill never return. Do you know how awkward it is to have your stylist come out from the back room that the yelling was coming from pretending not to cry. Overall, this place was the worst experience I have ever experienced! And I feel bad for their employees and I wish I could do more.... These owners need to reevaluate how they treat thier employees should be treated because it affects their customer service. read more

Amazing! From the staff to the rockstar treatment, this salon has it all! I have never had a salon experience even close to this one. From the moment you walk in the door, you know this will be the last salon you ever visit. The staff is incredible; genuine and so attentive - they go above and beyond to ensure your visit is its very best in every way. Their product line is extensive and the staff is knowledgeable and very helpful in finding exactly the right product for your individual hair needs. But it's not only the inviting atmosphere that will make you keep coming back for more, it's also the results!!!!! By far the best colour I have ever had! I could go on forever about how awesome this salon is but there's no better way than to experience it yourself, and trust me, they will not disappoint. By far the best salon I have ever been to and I've been to many having worked in the industry! Their customer service is beyond reproach and the ambience in the salon is classy, comfortable and peaceful. You instantly feel welcome and you feel like a special client. The stylist I had, Alyssa, is new to the salon and you can see why they have brought her in as her service and expertise is amazing. She's extremely friendly, professional and very sweet. I was so impressed with the way their staff operate in a small salon and not a single detail was missed. The colour service (blonde) I had done was exactly what I was hoping for and I felt truly pampered! Having met both the owners in the salon and seeing first hand their outstanding customer service, I would recommend this salon to every one I know! Looked long and hard for a new salon after my hairdresser moved south, the only reason I chose this salon was because of the rating on this site. What a mistake! Don't get me wrong the atmosphere was great, they take care of you from the minute you enter the salon to the moment you leave. Unfortunately, the most important part of visiting a salon is the actual hair services and that's where his place fell down. Granted I did receive a good color service but the cut was terrible even though Michelle said there would be no problem duplicating my previous cut. When she done it was uneven and choppy ( even my husband commented on how bad it was) one side is much shorter than the other and very uneven and is too short to go in and have it fixed at another salon. I guess if she had used a straightener she would have seen the hack job she did on my hair ( all this for a mere $160.00 ). Word of advice if your hair dresses says "you have a complicated and difficult cut" that should be your que to run! read more

Outstanding service. Owner Roshan followed up my previous comment and invited me back for a recolor with master colorer Alann and a complimentary style by himself. From the moment I walked through the door I was made to feel extremely welcome and comfortable. Courtney was very attentive to my needs offering me the latest addition magazines and a drink menu. I had to pass on the scrumptious homemade cookies having just come from lunch. I was very comfortable with Alanns approach in a collaborative decision on the colour, her feedback was greatly appreciated. I'm very pleased with the colour we chose. The scalp massage from Kirsten was to die for, I may have to book in just for that alone! It was great to meet Roshan, he was very professional, did a lot of education during the cut and style both to myself and the other stylists. He went far beyond what he needed to and I am truly grateful. I found Alann and Rochan to be very supportive of their staff and customers. They are truly two of the nicest and most caring people. I look forward to returning and having the opportunity to work with Sasha again. I left feeling like I mattered, I had a great cut and colour that I look forward to showing off and I was feeling a little bit spoiled. read more
