We stopped here for lunch and had a great experience. The food was very flavorful, and the service was great!

On a sunny Friday evening, I came here with two of my foodie friends to finally give this place a try after eyeing it for the past two visits we've had to this portion of Kirkland. If you can imagine a mashup of both a regular fast-food joint and something you see in a K-drama, you get the overall interior of this place. They even sell macaron ice cream sandwiches near the front! We did have to wait just a little bit even though the restaurant wasn't a full house. Menu consist of fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, teriyaki, yakisoba and stir-fried veggies, and there add-ons and alternatives to choose from for some of these. We all got their chicken sandwich with regular fries, though one of my friends and I decided to get it on hot spicy crispy instead. The spice wasn't actually too bad, it was in fact a nice oomph to the meal. I was surprised that the "patty" of the burger was actually two separate pieces of their crispy chicken instead of just one. Now this wasn't too big of a deal, and the chicken itself was tasty but it was dry and there was a ton of sauce inside the burger, so the rest of the burger condiments slipped out easily as I was gripping the sandwich to my mouth. One of my friends experienced the same thing as well with his meal. On the plus side, the fries were appropriately salty, and were very filling. Everything looks small here but you get full really, really fast! The surrounding area is not the best place to find parking to get here because of the lack of spaces, so street parking in the vicinity and even farther out close to Tanaka is advised. read more

TL;DR: Fresh and satisfying. Very filling proportions. Parking: hard to find free spots but there are plenty of paid spots in the garage or street. Weekends aren't free in paid spots. Atmosphere: spacious, seems like most orders are ToGo/PickUp. Service: wait to be seated, scan the QR code at the table, order taken at the table when you are ready, you will be watered, food brought to you, check brought to you, boxes for leftovers available upon request. Menu: QR code located on the metal trash bins on the table. Photos available for the main items, mainly names and brief descriptions. Complimentary cabbage salad: it was very crunchy and fresh, the dressing was creamy, sweet and every so slightly tangy. Yakisoba: great noodle to topping ratio. Pretty much at least one topping in every noodle bite. The veggies had a very nice blanched texture and were added a light crunch to each bite. The sauce was as tad on the sweet side for me though. Fries: lightly seasoned and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I found I could eat these plain without the need for a dip. Original Fried Chicken: Very flaky and lightly crunchy. This is a decent Korean chicken place in the heart of Kirland's restaurant area. Parking is not plentiful, but it's okay if you are willing to walk. Our food was good. Not "wow fantastic" good, but well-executed and flavorful. Nothing to complain about. We went when the place was not busy in the afternoon, so it sounds like others haven't had quite such a good experience at busy times, and that's sad. We would definitely stop by again if in the area, but we would not make a special trip just to go here. read more

The KFC place we visit the most! Never a wait but always great service to accompany fresh extra-crispy chicken (and cold beer). Always hits the spot whether it's a comfort-seeking day or casual fun day out. One of the few places we'll occasionally opt for boneless (we are traditional bone in people)! This is a order pickup and takeout review. Craved Korean fried chicken and made a stop to pick up some chicken. We ordered the soy sauce chicken which came piping hot and ready for eating. The food itself was just ok. The soy sauce flavoring was not good and tasted somewhat burnt. I think next time I'd definitely try a different sauce. Chicken was also unfortunately dry too. I may have come on an off day but it was just ok chicken. The server was very kind and nice. Parking is street parking at Kirkland downtown which can be hard. However also note that the public library nearby also allows parking especially when the library is closed. Bathroom was clean meaning the kitchen is clean. Overall, it's an okay chicken place that fills your cravings. I may try again later to see if I went on an off day. read more

What a great place! Dined in and got an order of Katsu Chicken and Spicy Chicken Teriyaki. My SO's Kastu was great, but I loved my Spicy Chicken Teriyaki. The sauce was perfectly sweet, and the spice was incredibly tolerable. The Cole Slaw that came on the side was also very delicious. The servers were also the sweetest, checking up on us often. Definitely need to try the actual fried chicken next time but I was impressed! read more

It definitely ended with teary eyes and a running nose. The place is not super big but I still recommend dining in. They also give a complimentary cabbage salad which was pretty good in my opinion. We've visited Kokio twice now, at one year apart, first time dine-in, second time take-out. Nothing wrong with the first visit; there are simply lots of places to try. (And clearly, I forgot to write the review.) The biggest difference was the price. Inflation sux. Both times were on a Saturday night. The first time, the place was a mob scene. The second time, the place was a ghost town and our food was surprisingly packed and ready ahead of quoted time. Maybe price does matter. We had courteous service both times, no complaints. The place did a complete remodel vs the previous place. It is new, white, and sparkling. If cleanliness is your thing, they are worthy of your attention. The Food: Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Waffle Fries, $16 - 5 Stars This is hubby's favorite dish. He had it a year ago and wanted it again. The chicken pieces are so large it sticks outside of the bun. The chicken pieces are crispy and wonderfully fresh and seasoned. Was $13 last year. Fried Chicken, Half Order, Bone-in, Hot Spicy Crispy, $18 - 5 Stars This is my favorite dish, which I also ordered last year. Simply fried, impeccably spicy seasoned (the Korean chili spicy flavor), and crispy! I think about this KFC, and I think about the Colonel KFC, and there really is no comparison. Was $16 last year. Garlic Wings Jumbo, 8pc, $19 + $1 sauce - 2 Stars Hubby wanted something extra and opted for wings, plus to try something new. We opted for garlic, but the server on the phone said garlic needs to be "cooked in" instead of dipping. Fine, cook it in then. When we open the box, we found a sauce on the side in the container anyway. The wings didn't have much crunch; the sauce made the wings soggy which is odd cuz we had yangnyeom (sweet spicy) wings from other places many times, and they managed to keep the chicken crispy with the sauce. Costing $20 for 8 wings, yikes. This was a surprise. I have photos of the menu from a year ago, and these were $13 + $1 for sauce. NOT ordering these again. When ordering take-out, they label each container individually with a tag. It's rather nifty and helpful. Note their website still doesn't include Kirkland after 1+ years, so you can't see their menu online. read more

We shared half order of fried chicken with bone in, side of hot chili sauce and honey crispy rice cake. It came with complimentary salad and it's delicious. Grilled pork teriyaki was amazing. Charred to perfection and the sauce was so good. even the side salad was great. But the chicken is a little lacking. Not enough flavor and sauce on it. I consider myself to have high expectations when it comes to any type of Korean cuisines given that Iv'e had the opportunity to try it across multiple states but more importantly, direct at the source in South Korea throughout my life. In short, I was impressed. This is the first time I've visited a Korean fried chicken shop and ordered tenders. The audacity right? But, my friends that I went with reassured me that I would not be let down, and that I was not. Fun fact, Lizzy S. was the one who brought me! The sizes of the tenders were huge but, somehow they were all perfectly juicy. You could tell their chicken is fresh and never frozen (this was confirmed by the owners, their chicken and rice cakes are both delivered fresh on a weekly basis, never frozen) I asked them what was their version of "yangyum chicken) which is your classic sauced Korean fried chicken and they said they're sweet and spicy, so that is what I ordered, and it was divine. I also ordered their honey rice cakes, and they were so perfectly lightly fried on the outside, chewy on the inside, and the sauce was chef's kiss. They have a beer stocked with all the soju, flavored rice wine, beer, and sodas you could need to pair with your meal. Great food, cute spot, great staff, food is clearly made with love, you can taste it in every bite. I will be making a point to give this place a visit every time I'm in town. read more

This was our favorite chicken place when it first opened. The chicken and the sauces were incredible and the owners were so gracious and appreciative of our business. We went several times a month! My partner and I visited on a Saturday night several weeks ago after a game. We were hungry and exhausted and excited to sit down and eat some fantastic chicken. We walked in at 9:12pm and the restaurant closed at 10. We figured even if it took 15 minutes to cook our food we'd have plenty of time to eat and be out of the restaurant well before closing. We've worked at restaurants and are respectful. The girl at the front desk told us they only did to go orders after 9. Mind you they had other customers in the restaurant who just started eating. She would not allow us to order and eat at the restaurant so we left and went somewhere else. Really disappointed in the service. What a change from when they first opened. Not sure if we'll be back. There are so many other great chicken places nearby with service with no attitudes. read more

First time eating here and it's so good! We ordered half a chicken. It comes with a very good portion of coleslaw. You get to pick what side sauce you want or sauce can be slathered on the chicken for you. (I prefer sauce on the side.) I chose the garlic sauce and sweet and spicy sauce. The sweet and spicy was a 1 star spice.... So it wasn't spicy at all. The chicken is nicely battered and fried. So fresh! Piping hot when it comes to you. Very tasty! This was our first time visiting Kokio, and it certainly won't be the last! When we entered the friendly staff were instantly welcoming and attentive. It's a cute spot with about 10 tables and some bar seating. They have a couple of tvs as well. It's a great location right on the main strip of restaurants in downtown Kirkland. We ordered some crispy wings and tenders - Both spicy. They give you a delicious and refreshing cabbage salad to eat with your chicken or as an appetizer. It just has a simple ginger dressing, but it's perfect. The chicken comes out hot and crispy! They even provide wipes to keep the oil on your face and hands to a minimum. The tender sauce was a great compliment for the chicken, and they include a yummy garlic aioli with the crunchy waffle fries. The waffle fries cost a little extra but are so worth it! To make matters worse, they tasted sour, which made me question whether the chicken was fresh or stored properly, especially on a hot day. On top of that, it was clear they didn't clean the chicken wings properly before frying, as I could still see feathers on the surface of the wings. So disgusting! I don't know why I got babysat using the screen, because I know how a touch screen select works...I just wanted to select a Cajun flavor and I had to repeat myself twice while he insisted on selecting it for me through the whole process, and my friend had to repeat it as well, and the server wanted to help, which was...anti-helping to be honest. I understand it might be a policy they have to maybe walk customers through the touch screen? but it was very unnecessary. If it's for tips, it's annoying over-service and patronizing. When I first stepped in here I noticed the restaurant was very clean and neat. My server was super friendly and accommodating while I was trying to decide what to get. I ordered the sweet spicy chicken swings and they were really good. It had a great crunch to it and the chicken was moist and delicious. What I thought was a really good combination was the cabbage salad and the small side of reddish. Having that slightly sweet crunchiness of the veggies and the chicken wings went a long way. I'm seeing a lot of 5 star reviews so maybe I came on an off day, but personally I thought this place was kind of mid. I tried the bone-in chicken, half original and half sweet spicy. The chicken was a bit dry and the sauce was definitely on the sweeter side for my taste. The original was fried well, but not much flavor. Portion was decent for 2 people, but the chicken only comes with a complimentary salad and no radish (radish needs to be ordered on its own, which I thought was kind of crazy for a Korean fried chicken place). We were in downtown Kirkland and trying to figure out what to do for lunch. My husband saw this lady coming out from Kokio and asked her if it's good here. She said this is their absolute favorite place. We walked in, and we were able to be seated right away. It looks like a cool place to have some good Korean chicken. We were surprised that they had Tobbokki. Our favorite Korean dish. And it was so good. It was spicy, but it was a good spicy. I will suffer through the pain for good spicy Tobbokki. We also ordered the chicken wings with sweet and spicy sauce. It was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. So good! My husband wanted to try the spicy chicken sandwich. It was a fried chicken sandwic, and it had pickled vegetables in it. He got the waffle fries with his sandwich, and it was a cross between chick fil-a waffle fries and Jack in the box seasoned curly fries. They were really good, and they gave us this garlic sauce that they said to add ketchup to dip the fries into. OMG. We loved it. I got the strawberry lemonade to help me with the spice. (I'm weak with spicy food) The service was great. They were really nice and kind. They checked in us several times and helped us make our choices. Overall, it was a great experience. Basically their take on all things chicken but mostly wings they do have drumsticks and they do have grilled chicken that comes in the form of sea like a teriyaki bowl they have various spice levels. I order a 3 piece drumstick - hot and spicy - first all of the drumsticks were gargantuan- like turkey legs - the flavor was there but this is not "blazing - do I win a t-shirt hot" - just a really good heat and the coating was great - solid crunch. Best of all chicken was juicy. 3 is too much for one sitting - I ate two - should've only had one at a time - one is pretty filling. For $9 (pre-tax and tip) thought this was solid bang for your buck in DT Kirkland. Before I started to write this review I scanned over the prior reviews and saw a complaint about staff and wait time. First off; things have changed around before I came by it seems. A lovely gal greeted me immediately, walked me through the menu. Their fried chicken is their staple dish. I was excited to try another Asian inspired fried Chicken place. Asian food is my jam! The tenders come with a thousand island dressing and you get to choose another sauce as well no extra charge. I choose the spicy honey sauce. The server even went over each sauce and the batter. Just so helpful. I noticed the menu also gives an idea of wait times which was a nice touch. Drums and wings take about 15 minutes and tenders were a faster idea. I opted for the faster option. The server filled out the touch screen for me unprompted and motioned me to a seat. I offered to pay but she mentioned that dine-in pays at the end. Wait time was about 6 or 7 minutes. Pretty fast. Tenders were piping hot and the sauces were great. I couldn't choose which one I liked the best but that spicy honey was great. The smaller tender is 5 pieces. Honestly that can feed 2 people. They were huge pieces! With the friendliness, the decor, wait times, cleanliness and food ratio to price to me was spot on. I'm sad to see no one in this place after 3 months of being open.
