The entire experience lasts about 90 minutes, and they did start a few minutes late. They did a good job describing the cheeses, the other paired snacks, and the wine pairings. They also did a good job choosing a good variety of cheeses and giving good pairings. The table crackers are refilled throughout the tasting, but nothing else on the cheese plate is refilled. The setup was not quite what I expected. There are six tables that seat ~six people, so you're going to be sitting with strangers. You start by going around the room and introducing yourself and your favorite cheese, basically as an ice breaker to meet everyone there. It was a little noisy and not intimate for a 2-person outing. It felt much more like a social gathering, and I think it would be better as a friend meeting, group gathering, or even a team-building activity. It's also a good way to meet strangers if that's what you're looking for. You get a discount on in-store purchases, which is a nice bonus. You can also take your leftovers home, so don't feel compelled to eat the entire plate like I did! The only other issue was that cashing out took a long time at the end because their POS system wasn't working well.

A new business acquaintance suggested we meet there and when we walked in, it was surprisingly empty. The manager was our server and he shared some history as he recently took over operating this location a year or so ago. He was well versed in wines and their wines were lower in sulfites so they were less tannic/dry, which is typically my preference in wines. He suggested a wine flight options if we wanted to try different wines, which was nice. We each told him our typical preferences and he created a custom flight for us. To me they were lighter and less bold than I prefer but it was good to try a few different kinds. She had two whites and two reds. I had four different reds. They have limited food options (i.e., two) so we ordered the hummus that was pictured with bread but they were out so they offered pita chips instead, which were fine. He did say that even though they had limited food options, we could order from El Dorado next door and they would walk it over when it was ready, which is very cool even though I typically don't think of Mexican food and wine going together. :-) The overall presentation of the food and glasses was more basic than I would have expected from a wine shop since I've done several wine tastings before, but the location is great and I look forward to checking it out again soon and trying some different wines!

Very Disappointing Experience…read more I was really looking forward to The Golden Girls pop-up at Wanderlust Wine Company. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing like what I had seen from the pop-ups in other cities. The biggest disappointment was how little there actually was to the experience. The kitchen table wasn't even there. The girls famously gathered around that table eating cheesecake. Blanche's bedroom was completely outside in a completely different building, which made the whole setup feel disconnected. Even the wall phone, which was supposed to have the girls talking did not provide the experience I had seen from Instagram reels from other cities. Then came the cocktails. At $16 each, I expected them to at least be made correctly. My Blanche Devereaux cocktail was made with club soda instead of Sprite. Club soda tastes like Alka-Seltzer. I had to ask for a different drink. The second cocktail, The Dorothy, was made with Prosecco and unfortunately wasn't good either. Even the one lady sitting at this isolated bar with me said her drink was bad too. They double charged me. Which is another major issue. My ticket was $23.34 including taxes and fees and the complimentary drink was supposed to be included, with only a one-cent charge when I arrived. Instead, I was charged an additional $23.08, including $11.54 for the drink that was supposed to be included in the ticket price. Is there an explanation? Will this be corrected? My credit card company has already been notified. But what a hassle I have to go through. Just scan my QR code, and don't charge me .01 cent. I paid my ticket and "free" drink. Also as a solo guest, I was also extremely uncomfortable with where I was seated. I was placed away from everyone else at a very narrow bar along the wall, completely isolated from the rest of the group. Honestly, it felt like being sent to the kids' table at Thanksgiving--off in another room away from the adults. It was humiliating and made an already disappointing experience even worse. The entire experience amounted to roughly 15 minutes of taking a few pictures, drinking a poorly made cocktail, and leaving. For what I paid and what was advertised, I expected something much more immersive and fun. I couldn't wait to leave. Thank God I didn't pay for parking. I'm extremely disappointed. I went in excited to celebrate one of my favorite shows and left feeling like I had wasted my time and money. Based on this experience, I would not return to Wanderlust Wine Company.

Our local one closed recently so, it was nice to come browse a familiar store while in town visiting a friend. We did have a faux pas as we did not realize that a paid adult had to accompany him. Kudos to the staff for giving us a hall pass and allowing junior to attend the class with us standing off to the side. He had a blast preparing dishes with his three teammates, making fresh pasta for the linguine and clam sauce, and even a desert pizza. The class was well organized and the chef instructor and assistants made sure everyone's dish was prepared and cooked to perfection. I did get a chance to sample the pasta course and it was excellent. This is a great date/family night, or Corp outing experience. Do take some time to browse the store. Sur La Table has high end kitchenware and cooking tools. So, why not a 5-star review? Well half way through the class we were informed that only one of us could be in the class area. The message could have been communicated to us a tad for professionally and customer friendly. They did accommodate us earlier so I left and got to have a beer and watch the NBA finals game for a bit.

There are a bunch of free parking spots out front, but if you live locally, you can just walk right over! My boyfriend has been several times over the last year or so and raved about it to me, so I finally went this week and realized what the hype was all about. Don't be fooled by the small, unassuming exterior. The Austin Shaker is stocked with high quality, artfully selected liquors and wines. The owners clearly have an eye for quality products and take great care in selecting what to bring to the store. We walked in and there was one other customer checking out. A friendly employee immediately came over to us and asked how he could help. He provided incredible recommendations, and we learned some new things about the wine we ultimately selected. Also, randomly, this place is dog friendly. They keep dog treats on the counter, which is a nice touch! We brought our sweet bernedoodle, and there was no issue!

This place is owned by a husband and wife team, they do some demos on Thursdays, offer a rewards program and they have a great selection. They also have three locations, the largest being on N. Pleasant Valley Rd. I thought I would add some additional specifics and photos that add to the insight of this place. This place is in an old cinderblock building that is accessible from just one side of Airport Boulevard. From the outside, it looks like an old decaying convenience store complete with burglar bars and an ice machine outside. There's less than 10 spots to park at in their potholed small lot. Once inside, it's a whole new world. There are things here that you don't normally find anywhere else and they're not shy about spending big money on their inventory in the way of upscale wines and liquors. They make great use of the 1200 ft.² interior through great merchandising and selection. It's small, but it's packed to the ceiling with a very diverse offering. The wine selection is smaller than the liquor selection, but you will find wines from Serbia, Austria and Europe. They have Japanese whiskeys, soju, Dom Perignon, single malts, mixers and a handful of sherrys and ports. There's also a display case filled with bar instruments and accessories. Behind the checkout, you'll see one of the best selection of bitters that you'll ever see and they do offer single shot bottles. They have a good selection of cold wine, some seltzers, and even a decent yet small selection of local craft beer. Prices here are just slightly above the big box retailers, but they are not overpriced and everything is priced on top of the bottle. I did purchase two bottles of European wine and a bottle of Aperol. Unfortunately, when I opened one of the wines it was undergoing a secondary fermentation and some of the vintages weren't exactly current, so in future I'll stick with their liquor offerings. The photos and videos should be enough to get you through the door.
