This place is conveniently located close to our home. I can't believe we haven't been here before. I think we found our go to Japanese restaurant. I ordered my usual hibachi steak. The steak was tender, unlike some other places I've tried. My husband got the teriyaki chicken with noodles. The chicken was perfectly seasoned. We also ordered crab rangoons. My only complaint was the sauce served with the Rangoons. I believe it was duck sauce which I didn't care for. Next time, I would try the spring rolls. not the best hibachi place in Rock Hill but it is conveniently located in the Newport Walmart plaza beside Hwy 55 and Verizon. I read the reviews before coming in but decided to try this place out anyways because I hadn't eaten anything but cereal. when we got there there was only 1 cashier and 1 cute little old aasian cook, both female and no customers. the cashier was a nice tall white lady and she was nice. I ordered the steak and chicken that was $12.04 after tax. she asked me if I was okay with mushrooms and I said sure not really thinking anything of it. I was starving. I had eaten in 5 or so hours and was shaking while I was waiting for my food to be done. (it was taking a little longer than I hoped and my boyfriend was feeling under the weather [sore, weak, cold, bodyaching] so I asked the cashier to change my order from dine in to to go because he really wanted to go home but we had to stop by Walmart first to pick up some cat medicine for my kitten and I really didn't want to shop at Walmart on an empty stomach because I would definitely buy everything I saw in the grocery section [i ate enough to satisfy my starvation in the car but still ended up buying a lot of snacks at walmart]) it took 20 minutes from when I ordered my food for it to be done as there was only one cook and she was finishing up a large order that consisted of 3 to go boxes and 3 smaller to go boxes. the food came with 1 shrimp sauce, sweet carrots, mushrooms, and nO MIXED VEGETABLES. I'm not sure if they just ran out of mixed vegetables and that's why the cashier asked me if I was okay with mushrooms but THE MIXED VEGETABLES ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE MEATS. THE MENU EVEN SAID MY MEAL WOULD COME WITH MIXED VEGETABLES AND SHRIMP SAUCE OR STEAK SAUCE. I was so disappointed in that but so very hungry that I willingly tried to pretend the mushrooms were zucchini and broccoli. The chicken was soft but cooked and the steak was a little too over cooked or dry for my liking. The sweet carrots are SUPER SWEET like super concentrated. I could only eat a few at a time. Overall it was a below average experience and if I ever go here again and they don't have mixed vegetables I'm giving them 1 star. Sadly, some things simply never change... Let me preface this review by saying that I have frequented this establishment multiple times over the years since its inception. Once upon a time, long ago, there was truly great food, service and value to be had here, but those days are LONG gone it seems. As of this review, it had been a few years since I'd last visited this establishment. Like many before me, I had tired of the poor service, unreasonable wait times and lackluster food quality being served, all the while still being expected to pay for a premium food experience. At any rate, needing to do some nearby shopping, and having only ate a bowl of cereal that day, I felt it best to at least try to find something substantial to put in my system going forward. Though there are other eateries around this location, my curiosity really got the better of me, and I had to know, had they changed, were they actually better now? Dumb mistake! Upon entry, I was glad to see that the eatery was clean and orderly, and it appeared as though the owners themselves were running the actual front of house and kitchen, whom were also nice and greeted me, quickly taking and preparing my order, but this was also on a slow, late Sunday afternoon, so my hopes were looking up. But then things took a dreaded twist when I received my order of Teriyaki Steak, with drink, which was $11. While the food was tasty and prepared properly, there was simply far too little of it on the actual plate than what should have been expected for the charge. We're talking $11 here. You could easily go to any other Hibachi establishment in the area, order the same thing, and easily get twice the food served here, and have it be better quality at that. Well Koizumi, the final joke was on me it seems. I can say without a doubt that due to the severe lack of value here, this is my last hoorah with you for good. There's just way too many other Hibachi eateries in the area that do this so much better, with much better quality food, and for a much, much better value at that. Do yourself and your wallet a favor, go to Ichiro, Hibachi Express, Sake Japan or Fuji Japan in the Rock Hill area. Matter of fact, go anywhere other than here, if you'd like to partake in better quality & quantity Hibachi offerings that are portioned in a much more realistic value for your hard earned dollar. Being generous with two stars because at this point I don't think it will kill me. Ordered scallops and jumbo shrimp for $15.45 and was handed 4 small shrimp and four small scallops. Flavor of the shrimp was upgraded to mediocre due to the fact they were accented buy soft canned carrots. But hey they added enough rice to feed a third world country. I decided to stop here for the first after getting some groceries from Walmart. I can say that the people who work here are very nice and the inside was very clean. My favorite part was the Christian music playing aloud! I ordered the Teriyaki Steak which comes with sweet carrots, rice, and broccoli. Took my wife and one of my grandsons here last night. Ok, where do I start? The service was horrendous. The girl who took our order must have been having a bad day. To say she was unfriendly would be a compliment. I even hear her arguing with a customer who came in while we were waiting on our food. The customer did have a valid complaint and was very nice about it through the whole conversation. The customer finely left without the situation being resolved. We were sitting close to the counter and could hear everything being said. And I may add here the owner even got involved in the "discussion." The next thing, it took over 20 minutes for us to get our food. Now I could see this if they were busy, but we were the only customers in the place. When they finally brought out the food, it did look good. That was deceiving. The meat was cold and the steak was almost like chewing leather. This was my first time eating here and it was not a good experience. I will usually give a restaurant another chance to redeem themselves but this will probably be the last time I eat here. Waited for an hour for our food, which wasn't even right, so instead of fixing it or apologizing they just threw money back at us. Last week order Shrimp and Scallops. Got 6 each. This week I ordered the same and got 4 each. The Shrimp is advertised as jumbo, but this is far from the truth. At best the shrimp barely falls in the large category; they are roughly 1/3 the size of the jumbo shrimp at Red Bowl. I asked the server if actually got the jumbo shrimp I ordered. She said yes because they are larger than our regular shrimp. I said that does not make them jumbo shrimp because they are larger than your regular shrimp. Jumbo shrimp are 21-25/lb uncooked; the shrimp on my plate uncooked would fall into 41-50/lb count. Then suddenly her english got very bad and I got lost in the gibberish. This is my fifth or sixth time coming back to this place and it's only because this is the only fast hibachi place near where I live. The customer service is terrible and it takes them so long to have food ready. They run out of essentials and then tell you that you cannot substitute. This is my first visit to dine in at Koizumi Express and it was much better than take out we ate there a few weeks ago. I had the vegetable stir fry with rice and shrimp sauce and he had the hibachi chicken also with rice and shrimp sauce. Both were prepared right away and served freshly cooked and hot. The shrimp sauce is a little sweet for my taste, but my husband likes it very much. Your order also comes with sweet carrots which were DELISH and I could have eaten a whole plate of just those! The vegetables were well cooked and plentiful and for $5.25 I thought a great value. His hibachi chicken ran $5.95 but was a plateful and more than enough for one person! Drinks are pricey in my opinion at 1.75 each, but I guess you pay it if you want it. Sweet tea was super sweet so half and half may be best next time for me. You can visit their website for coupons and bring in your receipt for 10% off an entree on your next visit. The owner/chef came out as we were finishing up our meal and chatted with us and was super friendly! This is not a sit down and be cooked in front of you Japanese restaurant, but it was affordable, the food was good and the waitstaff (and owner) were fantastic! A nice small place in Newport where you can get hibachi and shrimp sauce without having to drive all over Rock Hill. Not expensive and not a big hibachi grill, just enough to get my Japanese food fix. The chicken yakitori was good, the sauce seemed a lil tangy but still good. I have yet to try more of the menu but most looks good. Iv been about 3-4 times and never had a bad experience, everyone is nice and helpful. P.S. I was able to pick up a strong free wifi signal on my ipad, probably from the Verizon store next door but it worked!! ;D read more

I always get the hibachi steak or some noodles and always very good. Sometime the service is a bit slow, but once you know that you can plan accordingly and I'm ok with it since it's a family store, so usually it's just the older couple in there working. read more

They have no understanding of how to use their phone. I tried to call several times only to hear "please hold" and then I was put on hold for 10 minutes before I was disconnected. Other calls went straight to a voicemail box that was full. I assume it was because of other people who were immediately placed on hold until they gave up or were disconnected as well. They must do fantastic business from people coming in to afford to completely ignore any call in orders. Frankly their food isn't good enough to warrant this type of service for me. I won't go back and I will tell everyone how bad of a place this is. There does not appear to be a mature adult leading these kids which concerns me with quality control. The food is average. They management must be very tight to hire only teens, charge for ice water and deny a request for an additional shrimp sauce to a family that just spent $30 bucks on mediocre food.
