Michelle and I spent the day together running around to DMV/Tax collector for SC state etc. We sure worked up an appetite and I suggested Hot Cha Cha which is what my Grands call this place. We went on a Monday evening to do Hibachi, it was 5p when we got there and we were the only ones doing hibachi. It's always so good, entertaining and fun. Michelle had the filet & chicken, I had the filet and shrimp. You get the salad, soup, sweet carrots, the noodles, fried rice and your entree, it's such a good meal! Came here for my god daughter birthday. Was an awful experience. Let's start the cook mixed up orders. Had to keep sending for food from the kitchen. I did not indicate that I did not want onion but told the cook before he mixed the vegetables and he did it anyway and laughed when I looked disappointed and said "should have put it on the ticket". I said I told you well before u did the mixing. While he continue to laugh and be smart when I asked about it. Then I asked his name an he just got smart and continued to laugh. Did not put the chicken plate on the final person in my party and again laughed about his mistake. He was unbelievably rude. I come here all the time but will not be returning again. We had two infants, under a year and one under 6 months, children and two under ten and they charged us an 18% tip for a supposed "party of 6" table...NEVER coming back. We were regulars for YEARS and never again...our server did admit today was his first day but the level of customer service was awful, also we were charged $5 for an extra yum yum sauce with our meal - for TWO adults we paid over $80 and we got chicken hibachi and a steak hibachi dinner. I could've gotten filet and shrimp and lobster at Cherry in Lake Wylie at better quality for less. My family and I went to Fuji for the first time Saturday. We had a 4pm reservation for a hibachi table so it wasn't very crowded. The chef was very entertaining and the food was fantastic. I had the chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner and there was enough to take home and have 2 more meals. Looking forward to going back and trying their sushi. I definitely recommend it. read more

Well, it's been over 3 years since we first tried this place...so thought we'd give it another try! First of all, the sign outside read "FUJI JAP" (as the lights were out on the letter "A" and "N"). Hmmmmm. I'm not even Japanese, but the word "Jap" offends me...so you'd think the Owner/Manager would get this fixed ASAP? OK...not a great start (entry) into the restaurant lol...but no matter! The place was quite bustling, especially on the Hibachi side (left of the restaurant). Again, I'll just say that I love the wide floor space and layout of the restaurant...and the color of the wallpaper (deep burgundy). Sadly, the ambiance is just patchy at best. For starters, we were seated right next to their busy "Carry Out" table, with various brown bags. We should have requested to move to another table, but really, we retired to the fact that no matter where you sat, we weren't really going to get much ambiance, so to speak. Zero overhead music...tons of sports TV screens (is this a sports bar or a Japanese restaurant?!?), etc. etc. Also, there were 2-3 nice paintings on the wall, but it's just totally random...as the paintings (Italian or French scenery??) would fit the motif of an Italian restaurant. Not sure what they were thinking...but again, I found the ambiance very "patchy". It's a shame 'cuz this place could easily be a nice restaurant, but due to the lack of finer details, the place is reduced to that of a fairly rough restaurant. If I remember correctly, we had a waitress that could barely speak or remember to bring us water last time. Well, our waitress was just a tad better. On to the food! My husband ordered the Katsu Bento Box (like last time?), and this time, I tried the "Pink Lady" Specialty Roll. We also got the Shrimp Tempura appetizer to share. Tempura appetizer was pretty good...and sizable. However, I was very disappointed with the presentation of this "Pink Lady". For one, it didn't even look like a "Pink Lady Roll". All the "PINK" was hidden underneath the fried batter and sauce...and the layout was quite basic. Nothing like what I saw on their Yelp page! Honestly, it was the ugliest "Pink Lady" roll I've ever had. At least it was served on a nice plate?? *SIGH* ANYWAY, luckily, the roll tasted better than it looked. My husband seemed to enjoy the generous varieties in the bento box. Despite the awkward ambiance, sloppy food presentation and just passable service, both my husband and I thought the foods were solid. Not exceptional, but good, solid Japanese food...especially for a small town like Rock Hill. I think I felt this way on my first visit 3 years ago as well. So yeah...if you want good Japanese food, but don't care about ambiance, service and all that jazz, you may like the place. For me, this place just doesn't deliver enough to satisfy. There are just too many great Japanese restaurants in Charlotte that deliver on all points (food, service, presentation and ambiance), and at similar price points! So for me, I would personally drive an extra 20-30 minutes to get MORE than just good food! However, my husband would gladly skip the drive...so there's a chance that we'll return. read more

I order to-go from this place at least once every two weeks. It is the best Asian food in all of Rock Hill. I have eaten in the restaurant once and per the usual, it was crazy busy because people know how mind-blowing the food is. The show was great though, and the service was very fast for the amount of people there. My to-go orders are always correct and always delicious. The clear soup is top tier, the hibachi chicken and steak are out of this world, and the sushi is the absolute best. The price is actually on the lower end for this caliber of food, and they will have a loyal customer in me for the foreseeable future. Please for the love of God; never change! read more

We came for a late dinner at Fuji Japan on a late Saturday night. The restaurant closes at 10:30 pm on Saturdays so it was just right for our late night meal. As soon as we came in the door, we were greeted by the host and she sat us down quickly. They have a variety of sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls and an area for family hibachi. Our waiter Jonathan was really nice and friendly. We shared a sushi dinner for two. It came with the Miso soup or salad, we chose the Miso soup. It had a romantic feel on the table side of the restaurant with soft lighting. The other side of the restaurant had the hibachi style seating and brighter lighting. The patrons were entertained by their cooks. They have a full bar in the middle of the restaurant. We had a lovely night with a lovely meal. read more

Family and I enjoyed our stay at Fuji Japan. Service was great and quick. The vibe is nice and chill. You'll occasionally hear some loud noises coming from the Hibachi side, but that's normal. Rolls are tiny, literally the size of my fingertip as shown in photo. Tasted only tempura flakes in my spicy tuna roll, hardly any fish in it. Nobu Roll supposed to have tuna, salmon and yellowtail... where's the yellowtail (see photo). They try too hard to cut costs and skimp out thinking customers won't notice. Very disappointed with the terrible sushi but 2 stars because I ordered filet mignon hibachi for my kids and I ate their leftover and it was on point. First things first. The food is fantastic. No complaints here. However in the last month the service has been very eh. Most of the servers and FOH staff are great and I have no problem with them. But as of recently there has been a new employee who my boyfriend and I dread getting. The heavyset woman is by far the most undertrained employee here. We've been regulars for years and in the last month we've had her multiple times and she never checks refills, acts unprofessional at the table (leaning on chairs, rushing people), and never asks the status on food. I know the last time we visited I ordered an appetizer that came at the same time as the entree and was evident it had been sitting out for a while. Just a very unattentive employee. The only time we've ever seen her is to place the order and when she wants a tip. Now this is not to say to fire her. This is not what I am intending. I work in the service industry and am familiar with the dos and don'ts of serving and can recognize she's possibly newer to this environment. I'm simply asking she be trained a little more. I know we as regulars really dread coming and sitting in when getting her as a server consistently. read more

It's a free standing, former Red Lobster?, building in a strip center. I did not have high hopes but as a celiac I desperately needed something not breaded and fried in my beloved South. We elected for non-hibachi and I ordered the Chirasi, hubs had the tempura bento box. My sashimi chef's choice were tuna, snapper, escolar and salmon. The salmon was like butter, so I saved the last 2 slices for dessert. Everything tasted very fresh with the exception of the tuna. They did serve GF soy sauce but I was sick within 2 hours. Not sure if the tuna was past its best by date, hubby had most of it and he had tummy rumbles but that was all. The service was friendly, the fresh toasted sesame seeds were a wonderful touch to my rice. Hubs ate ALL of his tempura so no need to ask if he liked it. They serve booze, beer and wine but I can't remember if they had a sake selection or not. I've been a Japanese Grill fan for a while, and this is the closest favorite restaurant my family can come. Furnitures, seats, and tables look like it has already aged for quite a while, so it's looking a little old, but the cleanliness outshines it, so doesn't really matter to me. Same goes for the bathrooms. Cleaning service does a great job on everything. The food is ridiculously delicious. My family and I always come to the grill to watch the chef perform amazing cooking tricks. You know, the spatula flips, egg rolls (like literally an egg rolling in circles, sometimes ends up getting inside the chef's top hat), onion trains/volcanos, and even setting the entire grill on fire by surprise. It's so satisfying to watch. My favorite dish in this restaurant is hibachi chicken. Chicken sides with fried mixed rice and egg, noddles, and grilled vegetables, all appropriately topped with soy sauce. Mmmmm, masterpiece. I highly recommend this place. They will be happily serve you with calming joy with the food that you eat. My score for this restaurant is a 9/10. Amazing. read more

Our server was very nice and she took our order promptly. We had the steamed shrimp shumai and crab rangoons to start. Both good, but the rangoons tasted a little bit overcooked. The fish all tasted fresh and presentation was nice on all the plates. The Philadelphia roll was good, pretty basic. The yum yum roll was good as well, but way too much spicy crab on top. It drowned the roll on the plate. The cherry roll had great flavor, the summer roll was good and definitely unique. The fantasy roll was also good and you could taste the toasted salmon. We ordered a sushi roll and it did not taste good. Something was off...and no one wants to eat "off" sushi. After all it is raw fish. I asked to exchange for another roll and the manager said I could not. After going back and forth, I told him I would exchange for a more expensive roll and then he said ok. But at that point I decided to get my check. No reason I should be uncomfortable with my dinner. The roll was more expensive than other places also. Server was sweet though. This restaurant is quite good; it is very clean and well-kept. Parking was adequate for full-size pickup trucks in both the front and back. When I arrived for lunch, I ordered some edamame to share as an appetizer, the Caribbean roll, and the chicken hibachi. The Edamame was typical, a little under salted for my tastes, but still tasty. The sushi was delicious. It was a shrimp tempura roll wrapped in soy paper with crab, avocado, banana and topped Eel sauce; very delicious. The hibachi was good. The lunch portion was adequate for lunch, and for chicken hibachi will cost around $10. The hibachi meal was well-seasoned and paired well with the vegetables. Some of the rice was undercooked but not crunchy. Overall, a positive experience; we will return for sushi because the Caribbean roll was excellent. read more

New to area, want to start finding my go to sushi place and THIS IS NOT IT. Don't know why it has much good rating. I order raw sushi every time I go out and their sushi is old, dry, stale. The eel sauce they put on the sushi is overly salty so don't even bother putting on soy. I ordered the hibachi as well, the kids hibachi is freaking $10 and it's the same size as the adult hibachi which costs $20!!! Minus the rice if they kid got noodles! I had the steak which was only like 2 oz of meat! Many moons ago, after a poor lunch dining experience I encountered here, I vowed to never return. But as they say, time heals all wounds, and everyone deserves a second chance. Be that as it may, I was curious to revisit to see what/if anything had improved, and I wasn't disappointed. First of all, Fuji Japan is a very spatious and pleasant eatery to the eye, with a wide variety of menu offerings to accomodate even the pickiest of hibachi and sushi connoisseurs. They certainly have one of the most expansive hibachi and sushi menus of any hibachi and sushi eatery in the area. The Hibachi Steak & Shrimp dinner entree that I ordered was plentiful and delicious, with the steak and shrimp seasoned and cooked perfectly! I absolutely loved the fried rice, and it's probably some of the very best I've had from any hibachi eatery in the Rock Hill area. The noodles were nicely cooked as well, but the fried rice was the real star. However, I found the vegetables to be a tad over cooked and missing that perfect 'al dente' bite that would have made them just perfect. The vegetables weren't mushy by any means but could have been a little more firm for a better mouth feel. The pre-entree accompanying sweet carrots, house salad and broth soup were tasty as well. Again, the sweet carrots were overcooked, but absolutely exploding with flavor. The house salad was basic and simple but tasty with the chosen shrimp sauce option, though the shrimp sauce here seems to run on the sweet side, which I found interesting. I prefer a shrimp sauce that is more savory than sweet, and found the sweetness of the sauce interfering too much with the flavors of the entree when using it more than sparingly. The broth soup I found to be delicious and exploding with flavor, but contained entirely way too much salt, almost to the point of becoming inedible. With so much sodium content in the soup it made it difficult at times to taste its individual flavor components. All in all the meal was pleasant, plentiful, tasty and a good value, but the simple corrections mentioned above could have made it perfect. Is it the best hibachi in the Rock Hill area, an area already teeming with hibachi restaurant offerings? Well, you're going to have to visit Fuji Japan and decide that for yourself. All in all, they've certainly improved considerably since my previous visit, and if they can continue do so, they will be a hibachi force to be reckoned with in the area. read more

Maybe I chose the wrong style of dining here (since the hibachi style dining reviews seem stellar) but our whole experience at Fuji just seemed off and below par. I ordered the 3 roll Maki Lunch for $11.95 which was a 4/5. For the amount and quality at $11.95, the 3 roll Maki Lunch was a pretty good deal. While it wasn't the best sushi I've had it was decent enough for $11.95. If you're looking for less simplistic sushi they also have lots of sushi platters and chef's special rolls. My sister also tried the Maki Lunch except 2 rolls for $8.99 and both were also decent. She had the avocado and cucumber rolls and the sweet potato tempura rolls. Not anything too special, but good for the price. My parents both ordered Bento Boxes, one was shrimp teriyaki and salmon teriyaki. The shrimp and the salmon were decent but the rice on both were poorly cooked and presented. The rice was nearly falling out of the bowl and also tasted like it was cooked wrong. The presentation was also off on the Maki Lunch (wasabi was on the bottom and sides of the plate). The shumai was pretty good though. Our waitress seemed confused at a lot of the menu but that's understandable since there is a lot and she could be new/training. But overall the restaurant was not to the quality that I expected after seeing 4 star reviews on yelp. read more
