When I walked up the cook was outside smoking, he came inside to prepare the food. I noticed he did not wash his hands and he did not put any gloves on before handling the food. I thought, maybe he washed hands in back of kithcen therefore I said notging. 2am my stomach woke me up cramping, I rushed to tiolet with upset stomach. This is not my 1st time seeing the cook do the exact same thing. I am filing compliant with york county health board, that cook should be wearing gloves when handling food for the public and coming from outside smoking a nasty cigarette. read more

When I came here, I was told that this place served some very delicious hibachi. Of course, this comes from college students who stay right across the street from this place. So on this day in particular, I decided to stop by. The inside of the restaurant looks a little older and the side I entered on had boxes so it was cluttered. When I walked around the corner, they were standing around and no one says anything. No biggie. A Lady walks up and she asks can she take my order. I decided on the shrimp hibachi. Then I wait. While waiting, I noticed that there were two people dining in. The cooks grabs rice out of a pot and put it in the to-go box, and then he begins cooking the shrimp and veggies. My order is bagged and handed to me and I leave. I pick up my student and we head home. She drives so I eat. BLAND is the word. This did not give a robust or very flavorful hibachi. The sauce that they give will bump it up a tad but not much. All in all, I doubt I will return. read more

Ordered the miso soup it was very very watered down, could not taste any of the miso, tofu inside seemed to be old. Volcano roll is not like any I've ever had. Though Ichiro may lack the fancy, arguably pretentious decor of other Japanese eateries in the area, what is does excel in is exceptionally tasty, plentiful and very fresh food at very reasonable prices, which is what matters most. It's beyond me how this place has a A health rating. We grabbed two teriyaki salmon entrees and an eel roll. The eel had little "hairs" on it, and after we ordered I noticed the ceiling is stained BLACK from all the dust and junk in the air vents. We got a cup of water and the water had little black particles in it like some sort of dirt / sediment. Food was nasty. I'll probably be losing my stomach to the toilet tonight. read more

I used to come all the time when I went to Winthrop. After a few years I tried it again today and it's gone down hill. The teriyaki chicken was weirdly cooked and had a funny taste to it. As I'm reviewing my first (what what i can honestly say will be my only) visit, I'm trying to remain objective given my expectations. The restaurant isn't fancy, but it's not dirty. It has the feel of a 90s chain restaurant, and the staff is nice. However, the food here is nothing shy of horrible. I ordered the teriyaki chicken for $8.95, which is supposed to come with a side of rice, carrots, and broccoli. What i received, however, was a fillet of burned gristle, atop a bed of dry rice, a full cup of cabbage, three carrot strips, and two tiny broccoli florets. The chicken was not chicken. Once you bit beyond the crispy outside (which tasted of old peanut oil) it was mushy inside and tasted like pork fat. I'm fairly sure there was NO chicken in my chicken. The "vegetable mix" was nothing more than a heaping pile of soggy cabbage with two broccoli florets, and a few strips of shredded carrot for a nice colorful addition. Finally the drinks. They have a standard selection of Pepsi products: dr pepper, pepsi, mt dew, diet pepsi. All of the brown drinks tasted the same. I'm not saying they tasted similar. They ALL TASTED THE EXACT SAME. I tried the dr pepper first and was out off with how weird it tasted (not at all like dr pepper). When i went back for a different drink it tested the EXACT SAME. And even the diet pepsi tasted exactly like the others! I know food joints are going through tough financial times right now, but these were some other worldly shenanigans. No broccoli? No carrots? They're cheap ingredients! Not even real chicken? And what the hell was in those drinks? All in all this was possibly the worst meal I've eaten in ages, and i encourage everyone to choose different eatery when craving some asian food. read more

Haven't had Ichiro in a very long time, probably years. It used to be a frequent lunch spot when I attended the University across the street. I ordered my go-to roll of the past, the Rock Hill roll. Something about it was way different and it wasn't as tasty as I remember. Also ordered a Chicken Teriyaki plate and they have changed the rice from white to brown...not as good. Don't let the hole-in-the-wall look throw you off - I've gotten sushi from there numerous times and it never failed to taste fresh and very good. The service is always friendly and the prep time time is as expected. The miso soup is always good, as is the chicken and rice soup. I haven't had their hibachi or fried rice, so I can't speak to that. During this pandemic, smaller restaurants run the risk of falling through the cracks. Their hibachi beef is amazing for the price. While the beef is probably a cheap cut, it's still soft and lean and tastes like real beef unlike Dragon Express, who's hibachi beef is chewy and soft--in the fake Chinese takeout way. Ask for teriyaki sauce on the side, otherwise it will be a rather dry meal (it doesn't have enough flavor on its own but I'm not complaining). You get double the amount of meat for half the price compared to places like Fuji Japan. Also, extra beef is only $4.50 to make it double meat. Like I get it if it's more than 2 but we just wanted one yum yum and had to pay a dollar. Also, the customer service was horrible, the lady that checks us out was really rude. We should have went to Publix. Not to mention, as I was leaving I noticed the staff in the kitchen weren't wearing masks. Probably the worst part, I went to use the rest room and there was a baby roach crawling on the wall. Would not recommend to anyone. Fast food building turned into sushi place...honestly never thought I would see that! Besides the self serve drinks and ordering fom the counter, everything else seemed to function pretty much the same as a normal sushi restaurant. Looks aside, the food here was pretty good. I ordered the philadelphia roll and the rock hill roll. The fish looked and tasted fresh; both rolls looked well prepared. I also had to try some appetizers, the gyoza and shumai tasted good and the 8 piece serving is nice (I've been to places with only 4). Miso soup was also good, but nothing to write home about. The people were friendly and helpful and they bring everything out to your table, and everything was clean, so service is perfect here. Prices are pretty much normal for a sushi place, I was starved and ate 30 bucks of food...lol. They have a fairly large menu. So many choices! I went for the Gyozas (served hot and crispy, great flavor), the Making Special Dinner (Spicy Tuna roll, California roll, Miso Soup) the Spicy Tuna was definitely fresh and seasoned perfectly. The California roll was average, not bad at all, but did not stand out. The misplaced soup was delicious. I also ordered a Spider Roll (Soft Shell Crab) which was the best I've ever had. I live in California, and the crab is from this area, so it is much fresher. The service is good. Also, fountain drinks!
