    Unagi Don

The place... inviting and family friendly. The staff very nice and courteous. The food... while not an OMG experience, it oddly enough tastes like home cooking and I love it. I've tried it twice now. The first time I got the curry pork katsu bento. It came with a potatoe salad that was tasty, a servering of miso soup and shredded slaw. The katsu was nice and crispy yet the meat was tender. My 2nd visit i sample the tempura and the unagi don. This is a Eel rice bowl. The eel nicely cooked and rice was tasty with the the mayo sauce and fukkaki. I'd love to see this place grow a little and maybe tweek the recipes a tad to elevate that home cooking flavor to another level. Will have to hit them up again for the japanese pancakes and rice balls.

Something I'm going to have to make a regular thing. The broth was fantastic, the noodles just right and the meat delicious. Everything came together like true raman from Japan. The price is very fair for the quality. No issues at all. Place is clean, music was not loud and the decor was on point. As I was pondering to see if I should go to more of a sit-down restaurant, Asuka's quick poke bowl sounded like a much better choice so I rushed the one on Broadway between the gym and yoga. I stepped in to be greeted by the lady in charge of the kitchen and the register. She was still finishing up the guest ahead of me but once she was done she came to take my order. I went with the Build-Your-Own bowl. The lady was efficient in asking me which ingredients I would want for my nutrient-rich bowl. She was wasting no time and effort and yet she wasn't rushing to get rid of me either (LOL!!) She sounded like she is/was used to handling a long line of people but never forgets/forgot the routine of good service. Once my bowl was perfectly crafted, she had a quick and yet genuine thank you to say. She then moved on to the next person in line. By then there were several people in line. Once I had paid I took the time to look at the interior decorations. And they are quite cute! The umbrella decors on the ceiling are one of them to mention. The dining area is not big and yet it can hold a good number of guests. Quite tidy and clean indeed. Between the location down the street from my house on Yosemite and this one, this location is quite more lively. The Yosemite location seemed a bit smaller than this one. Let's talk the quality of the bowl! Very fresh! From the crunchy cucumber pieces that snapped as I ate it to protein (salmon and tofu) to al the fixings that topped the bowl, everything tasted surprisingly and refreshingly delicious. I wouldn't necessarily say that it tasted exactly like the authentic poke bowls I experienced in Hawaii only a few months ago, Asuka is a solid (chain) place I can go and grab a bowl with no compromise. I have come to appreciate this place very much.

The chefs know how to plate their food because everything came out looking delicious and beautiful. My brother was nice enough to let me grab a couple of pictures of his food before he started eating, which was greatly appreciated. My shiitake buns were delicious, and I wanted more when I finished the two I ordered. It was a nice, low-spice taste with a wonderfully soft bun that held everything together well. Definitely would have ordered more if not for the big bowl of ramen that came shortly after. Vegetable Ramen can be a tough dish to make tasty, as ramen typically uses animal broths to hold the flavor, but Nami did an excellent job. All the toppings they used fit perfectly, especially the fried tofu, which is my favorite go-to for any ramen restaurant. If you are in the area and want a filling meal, go check out Nami Ramen!

It's in a very chill little plaza, parking is easy. Inside the places clean while lit and inviting, the staff is friendly and sweet. We started with a Gyoza, those were so good some of the best I've ever had. Then each person ordered their meals, I opted for a build your own Poké bowl, which I was happy to see did not have a topping limit, like many places do, but I was a little disappointed by the tiny amount of each topping that they actually put on, but it was delicious. The birthday boy was, unfortunately a little disappointed in his meal, he said the Ramen was way better. Last time he was there, not sure the difference there but a couple other people felt the same way. I know your experience can be so different based on who is there that day cooking the food, the quality of the ingredients that come in that time, and a number of other factors, so I will definitely have to give this place another chance and see what the real deal is .

I got to (re)appreciate this business that's in my direct neighborhood today…read more I don't quite recall when the last time was when I utilized this restaurant. I wanted something super quick and yet something of quality (as I was headed my way to my side hustle later in the afternoon.) Asuka Ramen and Poke, all of a sudden, hit me with a thought, "It's been a while since I last used them for a good poke bowl." In a way, it was an opportunity for me to appreciate it for the first time in a while so I did just that. They use a deep (large) bowl for the Build Your Own poke bowl (this is the only size) for to-go. When I asked for "half and half" for the base (white rice and greens), the young man behind the ordering counter generously pressed the white sushi rice into it. He then placed some green leaves on one side of it. "Looking good" I thought. For the protein, I chose salmon, tuna and yellowtail. For the rest (such as sauce etc.) I don't quite remember what I got me and yet, this young man sure wasn't anything close to "stingy" (lol)! As to show his appreciation for my business, he built my bowl with precision and generosity. I like the fact that they have one size for to-go poke bowl (this simplifies the process on their end and our end.) At the flat rate of $16 (unless you get additional protein which is $3) is also reasonable for the size. I got the impression that this is a business that they simply don't operate for profit; they operate for the social responsibility's sake. And of course, this above-and-beyond young man didn't fail to forget to ask me if I would need utensils or drink. He gave me everything I would need. Once I got to my job site, I parked my car in the parking lot and started devouring my beautifully tailored (to my preferences) bowl. The fresh ingredients, the way it was built, and the overall volume of it, it was impossible for me to find a single reason why this was one of the best poke bowls I've had in the recent few months. That was when I came to appreciate how lucky I am to live just up the street from this tiny and yet mighty poke place. I need to visit this place more going forward.

Smaller, well loved mom and pop restaurant that you can tell is a community favorite. This is a dying genre of Japanese restaurant we're seeing in SoCal (at least) with the rampant gentrification and rising rent, so this was a nice place to stop by. However, with that in mind, it's not the biggest restaurant, so definitely call in advance to put in a reservation if you have a bigger party, like ours. I want to add, to my amusement, that they have Shohei Ohtani themed dish menus here. The Japanese love him, no matter where they're at or from (as an LA adjacent native, this was pretty funny). For our visit, I got: 1) Negitoro Don: -It's a minced fatty raw tuna mixed with green onion on rice. -I've had this before at a fancy omakase and after that I've fallen in love with negitoro. Love the fatty, rich tuna with the crisp bite of the green onion and slight crunch of the nori bits they have on top too. -Delicious fresh fish and tasty, comforting rice dish. 2) J.F.C. - Japanese Fried Chicken: -We got 2 orders of this so our party can heartily enjoy. Goes great with the sauce they provided. Can't go wrong with crispiness of the breading and skin. Chicken was moist too. Good stuff. I got to try some of my friend's dishes too and all were perfectly seasoned and also were in generous portion sizes. Solid Japanese comfort food.

Kiki's never disappoints. I also ordered a green tea and they gave me a coffee mug full of green tea. I was not prepared for that and ended up staying awake most of the night because I was so caffeinated. I also love the yakisoba. The Ramen is fire. the Takoyaki is delicious The restaurant is clean. The service is very good. They close early so you need to put in your order before 8:30 p.m. They don't seat past 8:30 p.m. It looks like a lot of mom and pop Japanese restaurants that you would find in Japan. No I have not gone to Japan, but I watch a lot of videos about Japan due to being obsessed with the culture and the country.

We were seated right away and given plenty of time to take in the restaurant's history and look through the menu. Our food came out quickly, and the staff was always nearby if we needed anything. We started with the cucumber salad and shrimp shumai. The cucumber salad was refreshing, but the shrimp shumai had a strong fishy smell and taste that didn't seem very fresh--I couldn't eat more than one. For my entrée, I ordered the nabeyaki soup with ramen noodles and chicken, and it was excellent. The soy-based broth was rich and flavorful without being too salty, and the ramen noodles were cooked perfectly--tender with just the right amount of bite. Overall, Domo offers a really special atmosphere and a memorable dining experience. I wouldn't recommend the shrimp shumai, but I'd definitely come back to try another ramen flavor, and to see the cats again.

You won't find fancy sushi here or fusion cooking here, but rather tasty home cooked style classic Japanese dishes. Dishes like Japanese curry, oyakodon, and other donburi and noodle dishes. Having been here multiple times, I cannot recommend this place enough for a homey style meal. No joke, each meal here makes you feel warm inside, like a good home cooked meal. It's comparable to many meals I've had traveling through out real Japan. The flavors are simple, but each dish is well prepared while emphasizing conform over fancy preparation. You just cannot go wrong with any dish here, though I'm partial to the donburi, the green tea soba, and the hot pot. And if the meal is not enough, there is a beautiful garden to enjoy. If you catch it at the right time, the cherry blossom in the spring is beautiful and transport you right to Japan. Overall, Domo is a place that I'm always down to visit. It's warm, comfy, and nostalgic, and I just know I'll miss it when it's gone.
