Kohler is the best in the business. I've had a beautiful awning over my front door due to full sun almost all day for almost 12 years and the color has not faded (brown with cream trim around the bottom) it lasted even our bad winters. I delt with the manager and I can't say enough as to how pleased I am. Do yourself a favor and check them out. read more

The information posted about me renewing my service with Kohler is simply NOT TRUE. We have never used them since they installed our awning in the awful condition it was put up in. NOT HAPPY My husband and I recently-ish bout a house with a Kohler Awning. We have removed, stored, and reinstalled the awning ourselves for the past two seasons but this year we were interested in establishing maintenance service through your company. It would be nice to have someone do that for us and not have to worry about it, and who better than the manufacturer? I called the Cheektowaga location this afternoon and the minute they answered, the representative had trouble hearing me and treated me as though I was bothering her by calling. No one else has trouble hearing me when I call so I can only conclude this issue was on her end. I gave her my address and after looking it up in the computer she asked if my last name was Tedesco. I said it was not. She seemed irritated upon hearing this. She went on to ask if that was the previous owner's name. I said it was not. Now she seemed to be losing patience. She then asked me if I was sure it wasn't my name. Are you kidding me? I think I know my own name. Her entire demeanor was very off-putting so I decided to end the call with the intention of calling back later and hopefully getting a different service rep, but then I went on Facebook and read the reviews. Good lord. Then I came here and read the reviews there. Yikes. I am so glad I did that. I will absolutely not be doing business with the local Kohler dealer. Instead I will find another local awning company as I'm sure they'll be happy to take my money. Dear Kohler, Your Cheektowaga, NY location is in serious need of new management and/or customer service training/replacement as your current employees are consistently disappointing clients and driving business away. Many people in the Western NY area are unsatisfied with the service you're providing our community and it is clearly hurting your business. I v been a customer of Kohler for years. i needed a new awning as I had house painted different colors and Kohler had what I was looking for. In early June a sales person from Kohler took measurements for an awning we wanted to have installed. He also took a few pictures and told us he would contact us in a few days with an estimate. So we waited, and waited, and waited..... I called them after a month, and the women told us our salesman was in a meeting, and he would call us later. We're still waiting!! What a terrible way to run a business. Maybe it's because we live in the city, they don't want our business, but to not even get a call back! Rest assured I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. It was the beginning of November 20/20,in Buffalo New York our weather was raining,snowing ,and of course we had winds almost the strength of a hurricane! All of a sudden we saw our front awning separate from the side and fall to the ground!the next day we called Kohler.The receptionists was very nice onthe phone said she would send someone out to look at it Jessie came out said they could fix it not until the end of December .we decided not to put our Christmas decorations out this year! To our surprise Jessie called us said they would be out first week in December.the installer came out fixed the awning and told my husband he was going to reinforce the rest if the awnings at no charge!!! We had a great experience with Kohler Awning! Jesse came out to create an estimate for us and was very thorough explaining the pricing, the process, and what is included. (He is a sales person, so of course, there was some effort to upsell, but this was expected). I had a lower estimate that they agreed to match from a competitor and the team was very easy to work with. The retractable awning was installed within the time I needed it, and it worked well. However, it seemed to automatically retract too easily with very minor winds. One call to the office and someone came out to adjust the "tolerance" of the awning. So sad to give this place a bad review because the folks seem pretty nice and I am sure they are good at their job, but I was really shocked by a bill I received from them. I moved into a new house and received a bill for storage of awnings. We didn't know the house had awning and we contacted the former owner. He said "oops forgot about them" so we decided to pay the storage on the awnings even though we didn't know what they looked like or what condition they were in. We were a little sad that they sent us the bill at the end of summer so we hadn't had the opportunity to enjoy them during the summer -- but such is life. Fast forward to this summer. We called Kohler back to learn how we could get the awnings that they had for us. They said "Oh we can come install them. Would you like us to do that?" I readily agreed. I had wanted to be there when they installed them so I could learn how they work, but they just kinda appeared installed one day a week later. Then another week later we got a bill for $90. At no point had they mentioned that it cost anything additional to install them (we had already paid for a year of storage). I think it is common courtesy if not good business to let someone know that you will be charging them for a service and what that service will be. I had made it clear to them that I had never used their service before and didn't know how it worked. So maybe this is generally a good place to buy awnings and maybe even a good place for taking down/storing/installing awnings (if you wanna may over $200 a year). For some reason, I just can't bring myself to give them 1 star because their service people and products are probably good, we are just very sad about our communications with them. EDITING MY REVIEW TO ADD A STAR. Owner called me personally to understand my problem and took $45 off the bill. Still not sure I will use their service again but I appreciate them trying to make things right. read more

I didn't want to review them b/c they clearly spam the reviews and get people to rate them highly. But I will try to write a fair review. Four stars for taking good care of my awning and for installing during the time period that I specified. They come without warning and put it up, plain and simple - very convenient!! I can't give them the full 5 stars simply because they're expensive. $150 give or take to store the awning every year and then an extra fee for installation and take down. Very pricey! That said, it is more convenient to have an awning that can come down every year - saves on wear and tear. read more

Well this is my first experience working with Kohler Awning and it's not a good one. My salesman is one of the owners Marty Kohler. Its been over 2 months and haven't heard a word. I've left messages and emsils with Marty and nothing in return. Finally i actually got a hold of someone today to explain to me that the permit process is taking all the time and havent even started building it yet. All it takes is someone to reach out and explain that. Instead of making it better they're more then willing to give me my money back. read more

Kohler Awning is a company to deal with, the men that installed my awning were great...

While they got a late start due to the covid situation they completely missed my house while doing others in me neighborhood. They said they were doing installations by geographic area and a neighborhood can't be more geographic. When I contacted them there was no apology, just "Oh, I'm surprised too" and they would be back soon. The next day I still had no response. When I reached outI got a vague reply. I have no leverage in this situation. Good customer service would have entailed getting my awning installed within a day or two. They've obviously moved on to another area and I have a useless patio. I am a second generation Kohler Awning customer in Tonawanda, NY. Growing up my family had a Kohler Awning and screened in patio. I have many fond memories of daily use. Family get togethers, dinners, parties, sleeping outdoors, etc. Kohler Awning gave our family a comfortable seasonal bug free room to enjoy our yard from April thru October... As I now own my own home I too have a Screened in Kohler Awning which as with my youth has become the primary place for daily use for our entire family creating memories for my kids. I finally decided to take the plunge and replace our cheap portable screen house with a more substantial awning for my patio. I reached out to Kohler for a quote. Brian came by the house and gave me a quote. The price was very competitive and I was really impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. The excellent quality of the awning materials and the custom welded frame sealed the deal for me! it is nice to see a local company putting out such high quality products. Believe it or not, I recently received a PRIVATE Yelp message from the business manager at Kohler Awning (Marty), who tried to convince me to remove my Yelp review. After reading his message, I felt quite disappointed and irritated somehow because: 1. Why couldn't Marty make his request in public by replying to my Yelp review? Why did he send me a Yelp message behind the scene? 2. To my surprise, in the Yelp message Marty didn't even admit their own malpractice that had left me hung out to dry, rather used the incompetence of their supplier as an excuse. Here is my follow-up message to Marty, which I would like to share with the Yelp community so that everyone is beware of what they may be dealing with when they intend to use Kohler Awning for its service. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Marty: I am not convinced at all. I believe, my opinion doesn't stand alone and your company's customer service is really poor. The main issue is COMMUNICATION. In my case, I called your company in April to have someone come over looking into the broken awning. But no one showed up as promised by your customer service rep, and even I was falsely promised that the awning would be fixed before we moved out of Buffalo, NY in June. Well, it was a lie. Moreover, it is so difficult to get hold of the person who is in charge of my case. Is it really so hard for this person to give me a call and bring me an up-to-date of what has been going on and at what stage the repair is. Such an incompetence has put customers in real pain. This is NOT my own impression. Even my realtor complained about it, as she had to follow up on the awning repair after we moved out!!! Therefore, I don't think that it is the lack of customer service from your supplier causing so many troubles in my case. It is the horrible communication and unprofessional staff that have really bothered customers like me. I purchased a home with a fairly large kohler awning already installed and although not my taste, enjoyed its functionality for one season before I ran into trouble. Awning is fitted off the back of a 2100 square foot colonial for reference...pretty standard. I was scheduled for early april installation, and sure enough the guys showed up with my awning april 1st. Unfortunately, 45 minutes later, I went out back expecting to find my awning and it was not installed. None of the installers knocked on the door to tell me any change in plans, so I was very confused. I contacted Kohler a few days later to find out what was the matter and there seemed to be some confusion as to the source of the issue. An hour or so later I received a call from one of the owners telling me that unfortunately my awning has some damage and could not be installed. He said there was a tear in the fabric. I said, that is strange because there was no tears in it when they took it down last fall ( I pay kohler each fall to remove and store my awing, then again to reinstall in the spring). He said my options were to patch and maybe it makes it through the season, or full replacement. I said that I would like to see the awning in person and view the damage and he politely offered to meet with me and explain. In my estimation, one of their installers managed to put a 2 foot rip in the middle of my awning. Mr. Kohler stated that these things happen when the awnings age, mine being 9 years old. He said 10 years was the expected life span. He then continued to grab the fabric assessing it as near paper thin, due to the sun exposure over the years. I grabbed the fabric with my hands and stepped on the other end with my feet and proceeded to try my best to rip it apart, but alas me, at 6'3 225lbs, could not tear this feeble fabric! He offered to patch the awning, albeit with a glue patch as it cannot be sewn in the vital spot the tear occurred. Other options included full replacement of fabric with a 15% discount (5% bump over the prorated discount given to a awning that fails in 9 years....apparently within 5 years its covered 100%). This option would cost me around $3300 and while it wasn't exactly shocking, I was disappointed that I landed in this predicament due to damage that occurred by the professional installers, whom I pay a few hundred a year to install and store my investment. So much for having it made in the shade. read more

These folks have been doing this for 60 years. They are clearly one of the best around. Their price point is a bit higher than the other awning manufacturers but I feel it is well worth it unless you have a very simple awning application. I had three awning installed 2 years ago and have been very satisfied with them. Recently, they did a fourth which was very complex. In fact , they had never constructed anything like this before. Well, they built it wrong..... But true to their name, they came back and redid the whole thing. I'm sure they lost a lot of money on this deal. I scheduled an appointment with Brian at Kohler Awning for an estimate. He arrived on time with a variety of awning styles to choose from including stripes and solids. Brian was extremely attentive, professional, flexible and most importantly knowledgeable. Kohler was extremely competitive with their pricing and my awning was delivered and installed on time as promised. Brian came back after installation to make sure I was happy with the new awning. It looks fantastic and we have had a great experience with the seasonal removal, storage, and installation service. We have really enjoyed our backyard since Kohler installed our patio awning. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an awning for their home or business. If we need any additional awnings installed in the future, we will definitely call Brian again. read more

I have had my Kohler Awning for 10 years so far and I have not found anything to complain about regarding quality of their product or professionalism and customer service of their employees. Everyone has always been respectful and cooperative. Of course they are going to charge a fee for installation and take down if you choose to pay for that option which we do every so often, but they don't mind if we do it ourselves. I had a minor wear hole and a tiny seam tear over the years which were covered by the warranty. I highly recommend. read more

The guys who put up the awning are often in too much of a hurry to get it done. Almost every year there's a problem when they're gone -- either the poles are not covered properly, or the ends of the awning are not tied correctly, etc. When calling to register a complaint today, the service representative didn't even let me finish explaining the problem but kept interrupting with "Maam, Maam, Maam." For heaven sake, that is rude and un-called-for. I would suggest they instruct not only the installers to take some time to inspect their work, but also the service representative to be more courteous. read more

I purchased an awning from Kohler in a previous house and now in a new house. I have had the same expierience with the crews that put the awnings up. Each year I sign up for 2nd half of April and each year the awning is never up till end of May. Why? I'll tell you because its the same excuse year after year. I get a phone call from the receptionist in the morning telling me that my awning is being put up today. Then later that same day, I get a call from a man in charge of the crew putting up the awning, telling me they are not gonna be able to make it today. The excuse is that they are behind and will put it back on schedule. I called the receptionist back and asked when the awning is being re-scheduled for and she says she is not sure It may be two days from now. I say ok. Two days later, I get the same call from receptionist and expect the awning. Nope! I get another call from the crew saying they can't do it because of wind. Mind you it is a little windy but not bad. (He didn't call me till 4pm). I said this is crazy, I keep getting the same excuses. He said well if you want me to put your awning up today I will but it will be ripped. Really, not a very nice way to talk to the customer. Needles to say I called receptionist and got same response as previous. I also told her how the man talked to me and she said thats not right but she still cant get my awning put on the schedule for 2 days. It just seems like a terrible way to do business. Unfortunaly they are the only big awning place here in Buffalo. It is now May 22, and still no awning. We have had this same thing happen at our old house as well. One gentleman told me when putting up the awning, that none of the crews like to put large awnings up. That they keep them in truck till last stop then run out of time so it goes to a new crew. This year I've been getting the run around with Kohler about getting our awning installed. We gave them a window of the 2nd half of May. I called the Thursday before Memorial Day to inquire about the installation. They said that we had a window of the 2nd 1/2 of May. I said it is the 2nd 1/2 of May. After waiting a couple of minutes on the phone another lady gets on the phone and ask me if I needed it for the holiday. I said, "No, next week would be fine." I called the following Friday, still no awning and was told that they are so far behind because of the weather, but now I would be put on the "Hot List". I would think that if they didn't make their original service commitment that I would of already be put on the hot list. I have sent them an e-mail asking for a 10% reduction on my installation and an additional 5% for everyday starting June 2nd. By basis for this is that they charge me an additional 3% every time I don't pay my bill on time. I would like to mention that over the past 5 + years that we have owned our awning, we have never had a problem. During that period, we have paid Kohler to put up and take down the awning, along with repairs. I would think that our business would be of more value to Kohler. read more

Completely disappointed from start to finish. After several unprofessional phone conversations and rude staff I reluctantly decided to go with Kohler do in part to what seemed like a sincere follow through with owner. Not only do they show up with no warning they take it upon themselves to enter the yard. I clearly verbally and in writing specifically asked that NOBODY enter my yard with out me being home. I could write a short story here, but I will refrain and just say I wish I would have gone with another company. After several other neighbors and friends had also warned me of the unprofessional ism of this company. I also like to say after feeling completely irritated we decided not to have them take down are awning and remove it ourselves. To find they had STAPLED it to our home. Which not only obviously left holes in the house it left small rips in the awning. After all the money spent I regretfully wish I would have followed my instincts and choose another company.
