Al dirt site with a concrete patio table that can't be moved.

I'm not sure how this place has Holiday status. They have almost no amenities, most of the sites are loose fine dirt with no clear markings for sites. The sites are crammed together. The pool was like an above ground kiddie pool and it was closed anyhow. The game room had a ping pong table with a broken net and nothing else, and it was the hang out spot for PCT hikers. Dirty sites, run down equipment, broken toilets, this place would struggle as Journey, no way this should have Holiday status.

This is amazing place if you decide to camp near MT Shasta and it is also nearby downtown, which is super beautiful and amazing people btw. The campsite is clean and well maintained. It was super inconvenient for me when we discovered that there was no hot water for showers while it was snowing, but if you have RV than it should not be a problem in case if you have a better shower inside your RV. I strongly suggest to the manager of this camp site to give an heads up after the booking is made so that the campers can prepare in advance.

This KOA is a convenient stop on your way to Oregon Coast from the SF area. Average but clean gravel campsites and beautiful view of Mt. Shasta from the nearby wooded area. Staff were helpful and prompt in correcting a plumbing problem one morning. There's a city park nearby where you can easily walk to the Sacramento River Headwaters. There's also a small swimming pool at this park. I could only get 2 bars on the iPhone but we were able to use internet pretty well. The bad: Amtrak and freight trains nearby... We stayed two nights total, the first night the trains came at midnight, 3 AM, and 5:45 AM. The second night was midnight, 3 AM, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and 6:30 AM. I kid you not. Next time I need to stop on my way to Oregon I will try to find something away from the freaking train tracks.

I have only stayed at one other KOA and that was in Peteluma where I really enjoyed my experience. So when I decided to include Mount Shasta in my road trip, I looked for a KOA nearby. This KOA was pretty easy to find and not far from the main area of town. It is walkable, but is a little bit of a walk. I arrived late with my brother due to bad weather and leaving later than we planned. Due to heavy snow and bad driving conditions, we were stuck on the 1-5 for over 2 hours and just 15 miles away from the KOA. Upon arriving, it was already dark and the office was closed. They left the check in envelope for me near the office and due to heavy snow, I could barely figure out the roads in the KOA. The snow also made it impossible to tell the driveways and which site was which. I had to circle around 3 time to figure it out and when I figured out which was our cabin, I was not sure where to park due to snow so I just made a makeshift parking spot in front of the cabin away from the road, took in our items and called it a night. Entering the cabin, it was nice to see that they left a heater on for us to warm up the cabin. Compared to the other KOA I was at, this cabin felt smaller and shorter than the other cabin I had even though I booked the same type of cabin. This KOA in general was much smaller than the other one I stayed at. However, Mount Shasta is a very small town. There was only one bathroom here and again, the bathroom was much smaller than the other KOA I was at. Normally the bathroom is probably not a far walk, but due to the massive amount of snow, it seemed like an eternity to walk to the bathroom. It was incredibly hard to walk through snow that was up to your knees. I honestly had to take a break walking to the bathroom and at one point I just wanted to lay in the snow and give up lol. It was good my brother and I arrived here the night we did. I believe later that night or early in the morning, the highway we were on was completely shut down to very dangerous snow driving conditions. However, having never experienced this much snow, I did not fully know what to expect. In the morning, my brother and I wanted to venture out to the main town area and check out the shops and everything. We already gave up the idea of trekking up Mount Shasta seeing how dangerous it was to drive. Before leaving, I tried to clear some snow and saw that the roads in the KOA was more plowed than the previous night. The workers were out early clearing the roads for people. However, I got stuck in the the snow. Two of the workers came over and had to shovel out the snow and help push my car out. It took over an hour!! They also helped my put on my snow chains. I was very grateful!! That was more than expected! After that I very carefully ventured out to town only to learn that EVERYTHING was shut down, including the snow park! There was only one pizza place in town open, so my brother and I got pizza and headed back. When I came back, one of the guys plowed me a parking spot in front of the cabin. For the rest of the day, we just hung out in the cabin and played in the snow right at our cabin. To use the bathroom this time, we walked along the plowed road which made it much easier to get to the bathroom. They do have wifi here, but it is spotty, but phone reception does work here. I do wish however, that they had a TV like at the other KOA. Getting snowed in with not much to do, TV would had been nice for some entertainment because you can only make so many snowmans. They also have a dog park area, as well as playground and swimming pool. However, everything was closed due to so much snow. I would stay here again, but when there is no snow. Next time when there is snow and I am in town, I think I want a place with a bathroom inside my room for convenience.

Not too shabby! I haven't camped in a really long time, so I wasn't sure what to expect. We were only here for one nigh after visiting MacArthur Burney Falls. Check in was simple and they gave us our tent area number. The tent area had plenty of space for our car, 3 person tent and a picnic table with grill next to it. There weren't too many insects flying around on our first day there.. but funny story (kinda), on the second day after we woke up, I had a huge bite on my back and I noticed a huge bug on my sister's eyebrow. Sadly to say, one, she killed it while it was still on her forehead... so there was blood smeared on her eyebrow. Then later... the bug bite bump appeared! The women bathrooms were cleaner than I thought they would be! The hand dryer didn't properly work, but there was always paper towels and I didn't have to wait to use the toilet or showers. Be sure to bring sandals to wear when showering! Best part, they even have dish soap at the sink! It's in between the women and men's bathrooms.

Perfect for kids as stream is wide but very shallow. RV's in outside of circle with a beautiful common grassy area in center. Ideal for groups. Large common eating. Lots of bike riding and perfect for kids. Reasonably priced. Cons: Limited parking and very tight spaces. Charge $2/day for dog. Provide dog poop bags but nowhere to dispose. You'd think there would be some kind of disposal where the bags are but no...There is a sign that says to dispose at trash near laundry room. I walked almost the entire park and couldn't find the laundry room. And not a single trash can!!! They expect their rver's to haul their garbage across the park and then fling in into those huge dumpsters that many of us can't reach or are to old to get the needed height. And it's gross and smelly. Many parks pick up garbage daily or have reasonably sized cans spaced around the park. McCloud is noted for its wandering bears but there has to be a better solution... The next day I set out for the trash by the laundry room. I found the laundry room with a sign "Call this number and the office will text the key code. Someone is borrowing too much toilet paper." Really??? A resort this size can't afford toilet paper so the entire clientele have to suffer this inconvenience??? This wasn't for us. Could hardly get thru with one lane. Our neighbors were way too close. Tables were situated behind the rv as no room beside. Everyone had dogs but no fenced area for off lease. The dog park was a dusty trail along the fence next to the highway. Dogs were aloud on the grassy areas and everyone was good about picking up.

Beautiful space, grouchy raunchy camp hosts/owners…read more When we first pulled in we thought we had found our annual getaway location. We paid for three nights, but fully expected to extend our stay for two or three more. But shortly after we set up Bob the camp host showed up and sort of hijacked us on a tour of the house he's building and the park waterways, the development history, and more. On the surface we thought that was very nice of him, and was very informative. But the reality was that he dragged my wife and I around on a 40-year-old golf cart while he told raunchy jokes about such things as Monica Lewinsky in great detail, shared his opinions on world affairs, bragged about his influence in the McCloud area, and more, all with a spin towards the lewd and raunchy. We tried to accommodate him because he is an elderly fellow and we had never met him, but I have to admit it times it felt like we were in the opening scenes of a trashy slasher movie, and I was looking at every shadow and open doorway for a possible sighting of someone with a hockey mask. We couldn't wait for him to drop us back off at our campsite Also, every park has upsells, which is fine. But this park advertises itself as a fly fishing Ranch but charges $65 per hour for catch and release fishing. There are at least a dozen spots within 5 miles where you can fish for free. The McCloud river is a world-class Blue ribbon trout fishing stream -free fishing with a license, all day every day The 30-amp plug didn't work, we used the 15 amp standby plug during our stay. We have a small Casita which doesn't draw much power, so it was okay. During our visit we watched Bob and his wife Maylon be more than a little overzealous with other guests about camp rules. While we were in the cart with him, he didn't think twice about stopping to chastise to adult campers who were on e-bikes on evidently the wrong trails in the park. His reasoning was that he didn't let kids bike in that area of the park because he was worried one of the children might drive a bike into one of the ponds, so he couldn't let these adults driving very sophisticated two or $3,000 e-bikes bike back there either. It was awkward for us to be in the car with him while he was addressing these other guests. The next day, we got our turn being on the wrong end of Bob and Maylons grouchiness. They pulled into our campsite and abruptly told us we had to turn our music off. We were playing Willie Nelson quite low, but they heard it from the next campsite over. No camper complained. This was at 5:00 p.m. . The park rules site quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. this was on a Monday, after we had listened to loud construction noises from a bathroom remodel two campsites over all day Saturday and Sunday until well after dark, which we did not complain about or even get bothered by until our battery powered speaker was just more than they could stand to listen to. We had conversations with other campers, wonderful folks who we met during our stay, who observed the things things we did and felt the same way. It was a common observation that it was a beautiful spot, but The grouchy and raunchy demeanor of the camp host took a lot of the joy away of the stay. One family with whom we had especially nice conversations, decided to end their trip three days early, after having driven all the way from Las Vegas, some 12-hour drive. As we exited the park I found the owner and told him how unsettling his demeanor had been and try to explain that his method of dealing with errant e-bike riders and our little speaker playing music left a lot to be desired. I told him I was especially upset by the raunchy, graphic, jokes he told in front of my wife, and he denied having told them. I feel sorry for the staff member who happened to be in the office when we were having this conversation, but I told Bob that he was a liar and reminded him we were on the deck of his new house and the exact nature of the joke that he told. He simply spun on his heel and went back into his residence. In short, if you come here expect a beautiful space but some raunchy and grouchy camp hosts/owners. If you talk to Bob, it's probably best to keep your wife and children away, and if you talk to Maylon, don't expect much in the way of smiles or gracious camp host demeanor that you might expect in such a place. To close, Fridays RV resort - been there done that, didn't buy the t-shirt, not going back.

AND WE'D NOW LIKE TO ADD BRAIN TO TO THIS. You guys…read morereally did an amazing job of running our park into the ground & it only took you 6 months . Great jobs guys! Just want to say thank you to Brain for NEVER being here on the property Or answering our calls ! We also like to think you for the all lack of attention your give our park . You guys did an amazing job letting all the grass die on the property. Thanks for every time you ignored our concerns. It's so cool how you guys don't clean anything up around here. We like to congratulate Corey our new manager for being the worst manager we've ever had ! We like to thank him for all the phone calls he never answered. We'd also like to give him a BIG shout out for all the stuff he never fixes when he says he's going to and keeping are park looking like crap. But most of all we'd like to really thank him for being the most unprofessional manager we've ever seen . Thanks Corey keep up the bad work !

Copying my review from Google as it is definitely worth cross posting here…read more Stayed for a single night in a pull in spot with a 30ft RV. They have full hookups, a bathroom/laundry, and a dumpster. This is a mobile home park with many permanent residents. This location is cash only and we paid 40$ for our site. None of this should be a surprise based of freely available information, but here is what is. The live in site Manager Jessica is an absolute GEM! She was friendly, easy to work with and extremely organized. We arrived late at night and she walked out to greet us with a smile. Super easy to pay and sign in, easy to access sites. As of late Feb their bathroom has 2 working showers and 1 working toilet. This wasn't a problem for us but on a busy weekend it may be worth nothing. The location here is a 3.5, the host is a 6/5. Would not hesitate at all to visit again as a pass through or 2-3 day visit. THANK YOU AGAIN Jessica!!!

I tried to find a listing for the actual Castle Lake but instead just found the campground. To be…read moreclear, the campground is a short distance prior to the actual lake which has its own parking lot and trailheads. Once parked at the lake, you can embark on the moderate trail to Heart Lake. Approaching the lake, the trail is to the left of it and climbs along the lake shore with intermittent views. As you take a gradual but steady climb up, you will start to see views open up and eventually see Mt Shasta itself. Most hikers stop at Heart Lake which is a scenic spot with granite on one side and on the outlet side of the lake for Shasta views. If you're wanting a little bit of a longer hike, when facing the lake, make a right and log hop across its outlet and follow a faint but obvious trail to a rocky outcropping. There you will reach an amazing vista of Castle Lake and Mt Shasta. It's a great spot to have your lunch and take some amazing photos. Take care on the way down as there are some steep drop offs and slippery rocks. Most of the trail is exposed, so I'd go earlier in the day in the warm months. Depending on how far you go, it's 3-4 miles out and back. Wonderful way to have amazing mountain scenery in a short hike. Free parking at the lake and pit toilets (not the best, not the worst I've seen.)

Trail was a steady incline for the most part and becomes very steep near the end. Furthermore, trail transitions from a wooded area to a rocky and exposed terrain. Stunning views of the nearby mountains and lakes at higher elevation! Heart Lake was actually referring to a small lake at the top. At the end of the hike, you get a heart shaped view of Castle Lake!
