It's a shady business. I can seriously write a book about it. My car was broken down on a Sunday, I used Big Time towing which was Big Time Mistake. The driver insisted me to tow my car to KO Auto Service. I checked yelp and saw it has a pretty good review, but that's where my nightmare started. The tow car was pulled over by a policeman and the policeman told me that this driver didn't even have a towing license. I was shocked but I had no choice because my car was completely broken down. The driver dropped my car in front of KO auto service at a non-parking area. He kept assuring that I will not get a ticket, and I took his word for it. Next day, KO called me back and asked me about my car's problem (btw he didn't mention anything about my parking ticket). A few hours later he called me back and told me the car was fixed and the price was $440. so KO fixed my car without even asking my permission or gave me a price range. I was pissed but didn't want any more trouble. They changed my alternator and battery and promised me they are brand new. Two weeks later, my car was acting up again, so I brought it to another car shop where close to my place. I found that alternator is rebuilt NOT brand new. I also found out that I got a parking ticket! Thank god, I check my car record periodically. Otherwise I wouldn't have known about it. It was outrageous, so I decided to bring my car back to them yesterday. Per it's website, it's opening from 7 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday. I went there early morning and guess what, it was closed! I'm done with them and I will NEVER going back to this place. So save your time, money, and trouble, avoid this shady place. read more

After I needed my car towed due to a check engine light in my Volvo, the tow truck guy suggested to take me to KO instead of the Sears down in Brooklyn. The best advice. Kevin and his team were not only honest about their findings with my vehicle, he gave me a decent price for the fix my car needed. Anytime you have to fix a Volvo, it can be pricey. However, the team not only fixed my car in a timely manner, but kept my business in the future. The only suggestion I have is to make a lounge area for customers. I will be back! Seriously an honest mechanic is as hard to find as unicorn but Kevin (the owner) might very well be the one honest mechanic in the business. For example I recently needed brakes, now in all the years I have been driving I have never met a mechanic who didn't tack on the added expense of "shaving the rotors" before putting the break pads on. "Shaving the rotors" happened at every mechanic Ive ever taken my car to in the neighborhood for the past 20 years EXCEPT for Kevin. Not only did he not inflate the bill but he replaced the brake pads at a very reasonable price and they work great. To go to any other mechanic, besides a blood relative, instead of KO Auto would be a huge mistake. He fixed my AC when other mechanics were lying to me telling me it would entail taking the whole car apart for thousands of dollars. He fixed it in less than a day for a fraction of the price that the other crooks quoted me. My AC has been ice cold ever since and I cant stress enough how much less he charged than the other idiots who were telling me it could have been over a thousand, in the thousands, or just couldnt be done. To go any where else in Greenpoint would be a mistake. read more

Didn't put enough oil in my car the day before a drive to Chicago. Left a voicemail, never got a call back. Added enough oil (3 quarts!) to go to another shop to flush it out. I didn't notice right when I left the shop but my hood was also not latched closed all the way, and the dipstick was sticking out. They are decently nice guys, but they need to get their shit together. If you go there, check their work thoroughly. Don't leave without checking. read more

I've had my NY state inspection done here and tires replaced in the past. Smooth transactions and communication. I live nearby, so this wasn't an issue for me, but there's nowhere at the shop to hang out and wait, so be aware if you need to kill time. First of all the Name of this place isn't posted correctly here. When driving to the place the sign says "T K O". My first experience with the place was extra bad. Prior to finding this shop, I had a flat, the tire was already removed and the spare put on but I stopped here when I saw the man who said his name is Omar and asked him if he would fix my tire. He said yes in 5 minutes. So I said okay, but I didn't have any cash on me. He then called out to one other man there and he said yes they could take my debit or credit card for payment. The flat in the tire was repaired. He removed the screw that had penetrated the tire then he blew the tire up with air. And then he punctured the hole and then threaded another tool with something like a strip of felt. Problem is Omar put the tire on incorrectly so that my tire light never went out. I called someone else for the correction. read more

Service is horrible, they do not check car fully when damaged and put the same parts on, my advise price check and go somewhere better. Waited a long time to get car back and when I did wasn't satisfied. Food for thought always check the old parts that were changed, to make sure they put on new ones. read more

Needed help, car wouldn't run because some animal had chewed and shorted out electrical wires. KO came over got the car to the garage, changed out the bad wiring. They were courteous, quick and honest. An all around good experience. They are now my neighborhood go-to mechanic. read more

This little family owned auto repair shop in Brooklyn took care of my vehicle after an accident at a very fair price and had me back on the road within 5 days. They did exactly what they told me they would do and to top it off, had my car detailed and waxed before I picked it up. Kevin who is the owner also made a follow up call to me to confirm that I was satisfied with his service and pointed out that I needed brake pads which he replaced at no additional charge. It just does not get better than this! I strongly recommend this shop as it is obvious that they care about the customer and their own reputation. Try to find a full service honest mechanic these days. Note the other on-line reviews rated this operation 5 stars as well. One warning! I have to say I have had some bad experiences with mechanics in the past, but I have now found a repair shop that I am very fond of. The guys at KO Service were friendly and efficient. I dropped my car off in the morning and they dropped me off at work. I recieved a call right around lunch time that my car was ready and I must say I was surprised to hear the cost, it was much less than I was expecting. In the past I have felt uncomfortable bringing my car for repairs without a man coming with me sometimes feeling like I'd been taken advantage of because I was a woman, but not here with these guys they are great people. And they did an excellant job on my truck its back to a nice smooth ride with the new shocks & struts. I highly recommend this place if your looking for a mechanic. read more
