We moved to the area a few years ago and have been looking for a great local bar, well we found it! A diamond in the rough. This little pub is tucked away, but worth searching for. We found KPP through yelp and wanted to see what it was about. We had a blast! The wings were as good as everyone says and the burger was just as delicious! On top of some great food and cold beers we got awesome service. Our bartender was super friendly and we never waited for a full beer. We also got to meet Jimmy, the owner, chef, local legend, I assume... He gave us a little history and told us " customers make your bar". Which I couldn't agree more! As first time guest, and someone in the business for almost 20 years, this place is 5 stars +. We were treated like we had been regulars for years. We will be back! Complete dive bar. But that's a good thing. The staff is great and friendly. There's a service dog that frequents the place that is friendly and does not beg at the tables. One of the best cheeseburgers I have had in ages. The cook actually came out of the kitchen to check on how it was. The kitchen is open so you can see how clean it is and how your food is being prepared. Some of the coldest beers I have had in bars. Parking lot has plenty of room. It's a dive bar which is part of the charm and I used to love going there just for that purpose; no frills, nice jukebox, great drink prices, darts, etc. The last few times the unisex bathroom has been in miserable condition (which isn't rare, it's a "dive" bar after all), but the bathroom was so filthy I couldn't even use it. One of the bartenders always seems to be in a pretty pathetic mood as well. Begrudgingly serving drinks, etc. I can't comment on the food since I've always gone for drinks but apparently the food is decent for the type of establishment it is. Maybe it's a better environment during the day, I've always gone at night. Like I said, it's a dive bar so my expectations are pretty low to begin with but due to the more frequent bathroom/customer service issues I would advise those looking for the same kind of "bar" to look elsewhere. Knotty Pine is my absolute favorite local bar at NJ. The owner, Jimmy, makes the BEST wings and ribs. They also serve great steak sandwich and burgers. I LOVE all the wings but my favorite is their Motor Oil wings. We fly to New Jersey from California once a year and will not leave NJ without stopping at the Knotty Pine for the wings and their Bloody Mary! Jimmy and the bartender are very friendly. My son came here with a friend and raved that this place had the best wings. So we went and I can verify that these are some of the best wings I've had the pleasure of eating. I had a half KPP / half Motor Oil (Soy/BBQ/Buffalo or something delicious) batch and they were tremendous, with the Motor Oil having a slight edge over the plain KPP; tho the plain KPP were damned good. Damned good! The wings are crispy on the outside, moist on the inside; not dried out like a lot of wings suffer. The meat pretty much falls of the bone. It's a fireman's bar - lots of helmets and license plates around the place. Divey, but not dangerous feeling. You don't get the sense that all discussion stops as you enter. :-) Not a lot of seating - there's a U shaped bar which probably sits 25 or so and then two tables along the entrance wall. There's also a pool table ($1 a game) and darts. Friends have told me they get to-go from here to bring to parties; something I will keep in mind. read more

Today was my second time at KPP and once again I enjoyed myself. I'm a huge fan of local dive bars and this place is just that and then some. A bunch of locals, cheap drinks, decent food, and a place you would not want to bring a black light to. Anyways, I had a couple pints of the KPP Ale. It was decent. A hoppier Yuengling. I also had the wings. The wings were ok. Good, but certainly not the best in the state. I tried a few of their sauces and would recommend the Motor Oil and Bloody Mary. This tiny pub has great wings. It's very simple, has darts, pool, and outside as well as inside dining. Good selection of beers and great customer service right from the owner. It does only have 3 tables beyond the horseshoe shaped bar inside, so come early if you want to sit inside. read more

Started Yelping on Rt 80 looking for food as we headed home. After toying with stopping at Costco we stumbled upon KPP. There's something appealing about stopping by a random dive where people champion one good thing on their menu and Knotty fit that description. In looking for more about this place we then found a NJ.com review touting them as on of the 15 best wings in the state....okay we're going. Word of advice don't make the left at the light make the light just (and I mean just) before the light or you'll be doing a 3 mile u-turn. We walk in and see the place is 3/4 full (clearly all locals) but given the look of the place if it were empty we probably wouldn't have stayed (about as divey as you can get). We grab two seats at the bar (there were no tables) and are quickly greeted by the bartender. We order drinks and menus. They serve 12 wings per order so we ordered 2 (one KPP and one Motor Oil). KPP is a fairly standard buffalo while Motor Oil is a seemingly soy sauce infused buffalo (we both perfered the Motor Oil). The wings are battered and fried (which I perfer) and were nice and crispy. They have everything I like in a wing but some were overly breaded with little meat. I had about three that were like that and while three doesn't sound like a lot it was 1/4 of my order. The blue cheese they serve is also disappointing...granted a wing with a good sauce doesn't need blue cheese or ranch but sometimes it tastes really good together. A place that is championed for having great wings may want to consider a house made blue or something of a better quality. Other food coming out of the kitchen looked pretty good so if I'm ever in the area I may stop back. As far as best wing in NJ (like some radio station named them [as per the bartenders t-shirt]) I do not agree. They are good and better than most....but not the best. read more

You know that awesome Cheers bar, where everybody knows your name? This could be that place for you. This is the neighborhood bar you wish was right around the corner from your house. This isn't a 5-star restaurant. This isn't a high-falutin' upscale trendy club. This is what most folks would call a dive bar. But the wings here beat any other place in town, and if you are there when they have the BBQ ribs special -- ORDER IT. You will lick the bones clean and ask for more, believe me. I've only been here a handful of times, and while the staff might recognize me, they don't *really* know my name -- but that's OK. They are still the friendliest folks around, every one of them. The customers, too! Prices here are also excellent, on both food and drink. Don't come in asking for a wine list or anything like that. It's red or white. But mixed drinks are reasonably priced, there is a decent selection of beer on tap and in the bottle, and if you have a special drink you like, they'll be happy to make it for you. So, for friendliness... pricing... yummy bar food... and fun ambience... this is a 5-star dive bar. (And I almost hate to post this review, because I don't want this place to get crowded... but I also want to give it the shout-out it deserves.) read more

Of the 3 dive bars I've been to over the past year in the area I immediately liked the bar the best. Interesting how after driving past it all these years when going to Wharton Shop Rite I finally discovered it via a Restaurant.com offer (another cool thing is that they take these anytime even weekends). You always have to evaluate dive bars not by why they don't have (since they're usually small places) by what they do. What do they have- a nice friendly local atmosphere, top notch wings and a menu that's just the right size. My friend was ecstatic to see taylor ham on the menu at a place other than a diner. Wings had a nice assortment of flavors and looking forward to trying the motor oil next time I'm in. What sold me on the place was after we ordered the chef came over and explained they just had a big takeout order and it will be a little longer than expected. He chatted with us for a couple minutes about the wings. How many places would do that? We talked about while a place like Buffalo Wild Wings would have all the big TVs and bigger menu, it doesn't compare to a more intimate place like this. Not to mention the fact their wings are much better. Only downside is there's only two tables that seat 2 people. You understand the size limitations which are complicated by it having a pool table but maybe they can figure out a way to squeeze another table or two in there. Once the bar got packed a number of people did have to stand (although I suspect they didn't mind). Bottomline- the best dive bar I've found in the Sussex/Morris area. read more

Been coming here for awhile now. I can literally walk to it from my place. Always a good crowd, great wings, and the staff is friendly and helpful. It's small inside with a large square shaped bar that most people hang out around on the bar stools. 1 pool table, and my personal favorite (a steel-tip dartboard). In the summer there is a covered patio area outside which helps when it's crowded. This is a great place to just unwind after a long day of work, I highly recommend it. read more

KPP is one of my new favorite dive bars to grab a drink with friends and eat wings. The biggest plus is that they serve a variety of food that's pretty good including homemade onion rings, fries, burgers, and of course their signature wings. The wings have a little crunch to them (ever so lightly breaded) and the sauce smells hot but it's on the milder side in my opinion but packed with flavor instead of heat. No boneless wings for you nontraditional folks though - sorry. Other notable things are a fair selection of beers on tap (the usual and the occasional IPA) and a decent selection bottled. Dart boards and house darts, karaoke nights, and a pool table are all nice features. My only complaint would be lack of seating/tables since there are only 2 high tops for 2 each if you don't want to sit at the actual bar. I definitely recommend this place to anyone local or just driving by! They have something for everyone. read more
