There is something about going somewhere that is frequented by the locals, doesn't have a ton of seating space, and you are treated like family. We were on our way out to Western Mass for some hiking, and we decided to give Knotty Pine a shot for breakfast. We were glad we did! A sign outside the restaurant proclaimed the special to be a corned beef hash and cheddar omelet, served with toast, and that sounded delicious to me. It did not disappoint. The omelet was a nice size, and it was absolutely stuffed with corned beef and cheese. Each bite was very hearty, and the flavor was delicious. There were other omelets ordered from the regular menu, and they also received praise from those eating them. Place was bustling around 9am full from bar seats to booth, older woman told us to wait 10min...Cool. Groups of people are started to come in, Thank goodness for another patron who noticed we were waiting, said she's offering them seats first smh. Thanks hostess My nephew was craving Blueberry pancakes, the reviews on Hot Cakes and Homefries was what made us come in. Food came out quick, but Wrong! After a few tries....Chef got it right . I couldn't wait to try the Homefries, I mean there was articles raving about these 10yrs ago. Womp, Womp the food was bland, eggs tasted like butter, French toast was bearable thanks to syrup, bacon was too burnt and sausage was left on plate. We found this place one morning walking from our hotel to the train station. If you are in the neighborhood, you have to stop and experience a true family owned diner experience. We had breakfast which pretty delicious and exceeded my expectations. I had a breakfast sandwich and was amazed by the bread options. I wish this place were located back home in MN. The diner was cozy at the end of a small shopping center and a bit off the main road. It is WORTH every second of the drive and if you are staying at the hotels 3 blocks down... You MUST make this a stop. We were greeted by a very lovely lady that directed us to sit at a booth- yay! Old fashioned counter, a compelling array of breakfast menu options and the flexibility to let me have it my way. The bacon was crispy, the pancakes were perfect and heavy with blueberries. After looking over the menu I asked for a custom combo on one plate. They handled it perfectly. My waitress had a couple of minor brain cramps. She mentioned my check as I finished. Awhile later she was filling ketchup bottles, no check yet. Oops! She immediately headed off to get my check. There was a lot of check prep activity. I was watching football pre game. Despite the flurry of check prep hop to, curiously, there was still no check. A couple minutes later I notice my waitress sitting in a booth chatting with a couple of customers. I do like to eat and run so I gave a few glances down the counter. Another girl picked up on what was going on and picked up the slack. My waitress was very friendly and so awesome that she got three extra stars. I deducted two for the brain cramps. Added another because I was amused. Overall, a seven star experience. POTATO THERAPY. ! I grew up in a family business - a summer drive-in and know great food when I see and taste it. Tula, the owner and her sons, Nick & Bill, run a tight ship. Clean, welcoming and tasty, that's the ticket. Even though I don't know squat about team sports, I still enjoy Nick's and Bill's play-by-play dissections of the game. Service - stellar. They remember that I start out with a cup of high-test and then switch to decaf and that I like my English muffins grilled. Their home fries are so good that my sister and I call them "Potato Therapy". Locals call it the KP (pun intended). I tried to be a regular customer here but got sick and tired of the poor service and attitude of the cook with the gold chain - an example, I'm sitting at the counter and order two eggs over light with home fries and sausage and black coffee. When I'm done eating I ask to have my coffee topped-off and am told if I want more coffee I will need to be charged for it. Ok, not problem except that five minutes later the cook that said that to me says to me says to the guy sitting bext to me: "Can I add a little more coffee to your cup. I was so surprised to hear this that I waited until the guy next to me left - without being charged. To teat my sanity, I repeated my request every time I had breakfast at Knotty Pine and I alway received additional coffee (to fill my partially empty cup) with all the severs, cooks, and their mother except for the cook with the gold necklace. . . frankly I do bot need the drama. read more

Would have been 4.5 or a 5 based on food and atmosphere with the one exception that it was so hot I prayed for the door to open and allow fresh air. Heard others saying the same thing. Portions were generous and traditional - bacon, eggs, buttered toast. Loved the fact that the hash browns had a little kick - balanced nicely by the ketchup. We ordered a mix of French toast, eggs, and omelettes. Everything was super tasty and fresh. First time here. Walked in and the girl behind the bar said I can go sit at the table all the way in the back when I told her I think it's empty. I go sit and wait for my friend, rude waitress (dark short hair) goes "can I finish cleaning?" So I said no problem but the other girl told me to sit. I had to awkwardly stand while she cleaned. This is when it really gets horrible. My friend finally joins me and right off the bat tell me she's pregnant! And I am too so we were all excited and gitty when the rude waitress turns around from the table next to us and goes "um excuse me but I can't hear what these people want to order".... SWEAR TO GOD, that happened, not at all in a nice way. are you kidding me? In my 32 years of living, I have never in my life been shushed in a restaurant let alone a dinky little diner, SO SORRY for being excited my friend and I are both pregnant. I'm not too surprised to see other reviews where people based on their skin color or sexual orientation would feel unwelcome. The young main guy working the main counter with the short slicked back black hair was very unfriendly - I said thank you multiple times and he wouldn't even look at me or reply. I did wonder a little if it was because I am dark skinned (Mexican-Italian). The Latin looking cook who brought out our food was very friendly - looks like the jerky guy could use some lessons from the cook (or the mom) regarding how to be friendly towards all people regardless of their skin color (if that was the issue for him - if not, then he needs some general lessons on what customer service means). Though he was friendly with the white guy at the counter as they talked football. Food was okay. Will never go back here based on unfriendliness. read more

You might miss the storefront and less you know about it, as it is talked down at the corner of a quiet street. It is a small little diner, and they have a few booths, as well as counter space. It was quite warm in there the morning I went in, but it was also one of those heat waves of 95+ degrees. They do have a few ceiling fans that help. The gentleman working behind the counter was friendly, and he got my order quickly and efficiently. I had no problems with the staff. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and the amount of food I got for the prices in the menu was truly stunning to me. For the price of a Starbucks coffee, I got a full meal! They are home fries are wonderful, and the spices they used mixed with the onions is just great. I would go back again just for these! The meal was really good, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Note: this restaurant is cash only. Is important to know, as most people don't walk around with cash in their pocket. Really, it is so reasonable that it wasn't an issue. Are haps they should put a sign or such in the door letting people know who are coming in. It Might help to prevent frustration or stress when they realize they can't pay with plastic. The place is cute and definitely my type of joint. The breakfast was very good but I felt that we were completely over charged. I ordered the breakfast special egg sandwich w avocado that was $7.50 and when I got the bill she charged an extra 2 bucks for having it on an English muffin. It was an egg sandwich special which she told me the bread that it came with. I do not like to get ripped off. Trust is important and no bueno for this joint dive!!! The Knotty Pine is a breakfast place in my mind, since that's what they do well. I grew up here and used to come here with my family when I was a kid. The food was always solid, service quick, and the lady usually had some free doughnuts for my brother and me. It's been a while since I ate here, since I no longer live in the neighborhood, but I remember feeling like I was in one of those diners reminiscent of 1950s Americana.
