Like any other yarn store, this one had a gaggle of women knitting outside and inside. I dragged my boyfriend in there with me, and he had some questions about yarn and needles, which one young employee nicely answered. So that was nice, as I am a crocheter and had actually walked in hoping I would find something that would inspire me to start knitting. Of course, the yarn is a bit pricey, but not as expensive as the ones in Rumplestiltskin or some bay area yarn shops. I didn't feel feel like I was ignored...probably because I wasn't seeking help and am an introvert. I actually like that no one hovered over me. Perhaps I'll return after payday. read more

I started attending a knitting group because I had surgery and needed to fill 3 months of time while I wasn't able to get around. The ladies told me about knitique. I was so excited to have a knitting a shop so close to home. I went I. And was very excited to get started. I am a novice knitter and had lots of questions fielded by the helpful ladies in my knitting group. The day I went in to get supplies, the woman I spoke with was rude and seemingly held some sort of elitist (master knitter vs. beginner?) disposition? I'm not sure what it was but I'd venture a guess that it wasn't "new business is important" thinking. I went back for several reasons. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe it was me being nervous or just some misunderstanding. I went in and there was a young woman working (I forgot here name ) she was AWESOME!! Super friendly and helpful. She never made me feel as though I was wasting her time and when she answered my questions, she explained all of the answers in a way that not only made sense but she allowed me to feel heard. So important when working with customers. My hope was renewed and I chalked up to a fluke... Then I went in again and the other lady was there and she was running a class on a project (in person & online), so the shop was packed. Another woman was behind the counter and she was impatient and rude. I remember asking about their return policy and she said that sales were final because knitting needles are treated in the same manner as a sterile needle; can't return them once they leave the store; as if I should've known this basic fact? ewww I went to JoAnne's and asked about they're return policy and they said nothing about unopened needles? Is this really a thing? I'd love an answer from an "experienced" knitter (lmao) ;) The best comparison I can give is imagine you're at JoAnne's Fabric and you need help; ya same feeling at knitique; we are better than you and our knowledge is only doled out when forced or we fee like your worthy of knowing our brilliance! lol I don't think I'll be going back again. ;( Oh well, there are other places with a better sense of what customer service is all about. I visited Knitique earlier today as our crew was visiting my daughters' godparents for the day. It has a cute, outdoor sign and a fun, decorative, front window. I was greeted and approached (asked if I needed help with anything) right after I had walked through the door. I had fun looking and touching all 'da tings in this LYS. I was impressed it carried Hedgehog Fibers. I loved the coziness of this store with its chockful of fiber goodies and knitting related gear. I appreciated the help when I had questions about their sock yarn, what was variegated and what was self-striping. I don't know the woman's name who wore a beautiful, jewel-toned green cowl but she was hustlin! She made sure everyone was helped and new customers in the door were greeted. Knitque, I love, love, love my Dream in Color Sock-It! Club purchase; the Smooshy base is squishy and in beautiful colors + the accompanying mini skein is wonderful also. One of the greatest knitting shops in Northern California. Danielle has the BEST yarn, wonderful large comfy chairs, and the greatest yarn selection in Sacramento. The coffee is always on, they are happy to ball your yarn for free, and they even have a spot for kids to hang out in. I love this place. I happily drive from Arden Arcade to Elk Grove on a regular basis to attend the Wednesday skills classes. I have yet to hear about a project the Susan or Brenda can't help with, and if it's an odd pattern they're enthusiastic about helping you switch it to something that works for you. I love the friendly atmosphere of the shop and the staff, and the wholehearted belief that you CAN accomplish your projects and that they will support you. For the level of help they provide, the classes are inexpensive and extremely beneficial to knitters who are anywhere from beginning to advanced, especially for those of us who are looking to move from straight knit scarves to something a little more interesting. The staff is happy to recommend projects, and tell you about the new yarns and classes they are offering in a positive encouraging way. One of my constant frustrations with other yarn shops is the attitude that younger knitters either aren't willing or aren't able to learn the new techniques and I've never experienced anything but encouragement and enthusiasm at Knitique. Any questions I had were answered and everyone has always been super helpful when I've gone in here. I have dragged both my son and husband here and no one made them feel weird or out of place, and they honestly didn't complain. The staff has always been friendly and helpful with suggestions if they didn't have exactly what I was looking for, but they usually do. It's a bit far for me to drive but if I need yarn right away then I head out here. They don't have as much yarn as Babettas but what they do have is goooood. They have a wide selection of books, needles and accessories. The only thing I wish they carried were Brittany needles - I end up having to go to Rumples for those or order them online. read more

My Mom and I loved the yarns! Nice shop but we are very disappointed in a crochet hat and knitted poncho we had made there. The final projects were sized for a child vs the adult size requested. My Mom paid $190.46 deposit with a balance of $81.60 at pick up. Too bad neither fit. read more

I was really excited to find a LYS that I could stop by on my way from Sacramento to the Bay Area. I was so disappointed when I went there. When I walked in there were a group of women at a table knitting. I made eye contact and smiled at 3 of them and received reactions ranging from a blank stare to outright hostility. I went further into the store. The employees were with other customers but nobody even acknowledged me. Even a hello or be with you in a minute would have been appreciated. I looked around but didn't see what I wanted, it didn't take long since they didn't have a large inventory. I left quickly even though I usually will spend hours in a yarn store looking at everything but I didn't feel welcome at all. I may try again on my next trip to see if this was just a fluke but then again I may not bother. read more

Knitique is a great little shop especially if you are looking for something a bit different. Danielle, the owner, is always looking for unique yarns. She also tries to get locally sourced yarns whenever possible. But don't think that it is all high-end, specialty yarns. She always has plenty of variety for all budgets and projects. I mean, let's face it... You don't want to make a baby blanket out of silk and cashmere! That's a disaster waiting to happen! There is always someone ready to help you fix your mistakes or get you through a pattern that is seemingly written in some ancient language by people who can't count. Not to mention the ladies who just drop in to spend a bit of time knitting and chatting. They are always happy to give advice, knitting and otherwise!, as well. I was looking for a certain brand of yarn and Knitique only had one ball left so the lady [owner?] who was working there gave suggestions on alternative yarns to use. She looked at my pattern and gave some tips on how to proceed and said to stop in any time for free help with any project. It sounds like they offer free classes and paid classes here. There are comfy couches in the middle of the store and a large table in the back. Needles, books and any other knitting thing you might need can be found here. While visiting my parents, I was happy to find Knittique in EG. I always try to patronize small businesses rather than support the money hungry corporations. I also usually receive wonderful service from specialty shops as opposed to generic stores (JoAnn Fabrics, etc.) Well, was I disappointed with my recent visit! First of all, the sales lady was NOT helpful at all with colors and yarn that I was wanting to try for my next project. She suggested a plain red and I ended up finding a beautiful color blend of blues, purples and related shades; but ON MY OWN. Then the clincher...get this... She found a pattern for me, looked at the yarn requirements, and couldn't figure out why the pattern required 100 meters of yarn. So she sold me 5 skeins of yarn. I did not question her skills/knowledge and purchased 5 skeins at the tune of $60.48. I try not to do the job for someone who should know what they're doing and didn't want to be rude to question. I arrived home, looked at the yardage on each skein, and did the math conversion of meters to yards. ONE skein was 110 yards, which might have been enough, I would have purchased a second just in case; but NOT 5 skeins. So either the sales clerk is dishonest and works on commission or she is totally incompetent. I will be returning the extra 3 skeins of yarn...I feel like charging them for my time and mileage for the hassle. NOT returning ever again. read more

I am a very new knitter and visited this store on two occasions in the last several years and was appauled at the lack of customer service. Being new the the knitting world, I had always heard that knit shops were a great place to sit in a friendly environment to knit, learn, and share knitting knowledge. Well, both times I enetered this shop there were plenty of women sitting around knitting and having a good time and I was totally ignored. I finally left after no one spoke to me or offered help. After the first visit I thought maybe I was mistakenly overlooked and a year later I went back again. The same exact thing happened! I even lingered around for a while to give someone a chance to make contact with me. It was like I was invisible. So I never purchased yarn or learned to knit for a whole year. I finally bought some yarn on vacation in another state where there was a knit shop to die for. Too bad they are so far away. When I returned to CA I tried another shop in Elk Grove that had just closed and was planning to relocate. Then I made a trip to Rumplestiltskins and bought a bunch of yarn and received great customer service. I am hoping to try Anna's shop now since I hear she has relocated. I sure hope that they have good customer service and I do not have to drive all the way to Sacramento. Would be great to spend my money locally. I went in looking for yarn, (obviously) a woman had asked if I was finding everything ok, and what pattern I was going to use. I told her I wasn't quite sure yet. She asked if I heard about a certain pattern, I told her I was new-ish at crocheting. No, I had never heard of that particular name/pattern. She said she would look for the pattern. Meanwhile, I was just walking around looking at yarn. She comes back a couple minutes later, and apologizes that she couldn't find it. I told her in exact words: "Oh, don't worry about it, I could google it." She insisted on finding it, and started her search again. she came and went a few times apologizing each time, and my reply was the same each time. (to not worry about it, that I'd google it) I thought to myself this chick is determined! Finally she comes back with a copy of the pattern. After I had taken it, she says "We just ask that you pay 50 cents for ink" and waited for me to give money. OK, 50 cents is not a big deal, but I told her "it's ok" a several times and that "I'D GOOGLE IT". I felt obligated to pay since I had taken it and said thank you before she asked for money. This part really got me irritated... I opened my purse and started digging around for loose change I thought I had. She leans over looking into my purse! I felt like she was looking in my purse as if I stole something. (No, I didn't appreciate her eyes digging in my purse) With her hand almost in my purse, she points out a 10 dollar bill that was in a side pocket and said "I could break that ten" I was in shock I didn't know what to say! Since that was all I had on me, beside my atm/credit cards I gave her the 10...I totally regret I paid at all! And the sad part is, when I got home and read the pattern, it was a pattern I already had! That was free. From the internet. It just had a different name. I would give this place a 3 star rating because it's a cute little local business, and I like supporting local businesses. I wanted to go back and complain about her to the owner. I just don't want to see or deal with her again. :( read more

this place is AWESOME and so is the staff - and I mean ALL the staff....Its a bit of a drive for me but well worth it. I've grown to not mind the drive .its comfortable and tons of quality yarn and all the help and answers you need. The "All skills class" is great and there are different levels of knitters in the same class and it works perfectly...you get inspired to try something different and a higher level because you can see projects others have started and get to talk to them. In no time you feel inspired enough and have people giving advice and encouragement. Nothings impossible and I leave encouraged that I'll be able to read a pattern and begin and end any project some day. If you are wanting to become a knitter....this is a great place to start and you'll learn the "whys"...and are not intimated whatsoever read more
