The show started almost an hour late, but the organizing group kept things interesting and interactive enough to keep us all entertained. We heard three musical acts and saw some cool videos. There was a simple cash bar. The audience was very chill and diverse. This space definitely felt like one that encourages "coming as you are." On the walls was an exhibit around Día de Muertos, with most pieces for sale. I look forward to having more occasions to visit.

And on that note, Sacramento Yelp really knows how to do "Dia de los Muertos!" (the Mexican "Day of the Dead!" celebration) up right! And "YES"...our SOULS were collected @ The Sol Collective! THE LOCALE! Sol Collective is a wonderful community based partnership & space who let us use their facility to host our Yelp Elite party. THEIR SETUP Their unique mission is to use art, education, and technology as a didactic medium to create mobilization and community empowerment. Their 3,200 square foot community space (which proved to have ample room for this event) is located in Land Park and hosts - besides the truly random Yelp party - art exhibitions, multimedia workshops,apprentice/mentorship programs, and community forums. And to give a special plug to them, in addition their space is available for local organizations that provide service and advocacy within the fields of social justice and youth development. Any craft under the sun they have space and equipment for. There's a wood working area, 3-D printing, huge etching machines, t-shirt printing, machines for jewelry crafts, space to work on laptops or schoolwork etc. There's is so much to do here and if you are a creative I deff recommend checking this place out. There was a girl there who was 3-D printing bones of the body and in a hand to help her with her Anatomy class. The gentlemen that showed us around helped teach her some tricks on the 3-D printing and how to do it and he is passionate about creating and helping others be able to use the space or any machine in there just ask and he will show you. Adj: Inspirational and Incredible Organization and Store…read more According to their website, the "Fly Brave Foundation's mission is to offer employment training for adults with developmental disabilities that have aged out of the school system, focusing on three essential building blocks; vocational training, social/life skills, and living a healthy lifestyle through fitness programs." I visited the Fly Brave Emporium thrift store recently and was immediately impressed by their organized and well stocked store of both gently used and local artisan items. There were a lot of different merchandise, from everyday casual clothes, to formal wear and even a section of prom dresses, to kids clothes, to shoes for every age, there's something for everyone. I also saw cute costume jewelry, bags, purses, home goods / kitchenware, dishes, bakeware, a small section of arts and crafts supplies, and quite a lot of wall art and other home decor. There were also little souvenir type gifts for those looking for presents for their loved ones and friends. All at reasonable prices and good to great used conditions, with some items actually new and never used. Against one wall, there was a display of T-shirts by the participants in this program, most of whom are autistic. That is such a wonderful artistic outlet for them, and for such a good cause as the proceeds from these T-shirts and sweatshirts sales go back to this foundation's meaningful mission, to provide disabled young adults with vocational training to develop employment, social, and independent living skills. Towards the back of the store was their Fly Brave Cafe. On the day I visited, the cafe was not open, but it's usually open from Tuesday to Saturday, and I see that their coffee is top-notched, so I'll have to come back another day to try their coffee. The gal who saw me looking at the cafe was organization mechanize in the back area and when I asked about donating here, she told me they accept donations any day that they're open, but if you have a LOT to donate, Wednesday is their preferred time to accept large bags and boxes of gently used items. Overall, this is a nicely designed, tastefully stocked, and meaningfully operated thrift store with a great cause. Staff were friendly and helpful when I asked about bringing donations and the cafe hours. I will have to come back another day to try the drinks in their cafe and do more shopping. Finally, Bacon and Butter is right next door so you can also enjoy brunch on a Sunday if in the neighborhood or a nice meal any day of the week.

Only two of his black acrylic paintings remain. Other notable artists are Bob Bajorin who's subject matter is young women and David Mayhew, whose abstract paintings is about his passion for architecture. The art works are affordable, the average price in the $450-800.00 range. Artspace1616 deals with all types of art, from abstract, acrylic, oil on panel, and black paint on canvas. They have so many cool options that capture the heart of Sacramento and some of it's landmarks. On top of the Sacramento art there is a good selection of subjects, genres, mediums and sizes. A great place to find a little something or a statement piece. The prices vary from piece to piece so keep that in mind if you have a certain budget. There's nothing like falling in love with art and finding out it's perfect for someone, just not you right now. But you can still enjoy it at the gallery! I love the love they show to local artists. It appeared that they just had a show and were sending out all the confections in pink boxes. I was surprised to see a nice original Conte by Fred Dalkey. He used to teach at Sac State. I've met him before. He's quite and didn't put on any airs. He was drawing and just wanted to blend in. If you're in the area and love art, you should stop by. Looks are deceiving, it's much bigger than it appears from the outside and is full of mostly paintings.
