I came here with my husband and son a while back for an Introduction to Glass Blowing class. There were a handful of other people there and we all had the opportunity to make our own item to bring home. We were able to choose the colors we wanted and lay them on the table. The instructor gathered some glass and did the initial shaping while explaining what he was doing and allowed each student to add their colors. We were able to reheat the glass in the glory hole under supervision and they assisted us in shaping. They were very hands on and did some of the more difficult things for you but definitely allowed you to try before taking over if necessary. We learned a lot and we had a good time. It is a very expensive experience but it definitely has value. You leave with knowledge, experience and a nice keepsake. I think a class here would make a great gift for someone or a fun activity to do with a friend or on a date and I would definitely come back here, especially if someone else was footing the bill! read more

Awesome experience with Design with Fire! We went as a small group to a glass fusing class. It's my first time ever doing any type of glass fusing and I had a blast. It is time consuming, but was so worth it. The $41 Groupon gets you two plates to design and they also have glass blowing and bead making classes as well. I was a bit confused at times on the process being a total newb, but I'm so excited to see how my art turned out when coming back next weekend. Full COVID safety is in full force here with sanitation measures of the products. You do sign a waiver acknowledging release of liability in case of any injuries but safety is super simple and straightforward. It's super easy to get the hang of and I really had a great time! I found this place on groupon. The class selection on groupon is different then what they have offered online. Groupon is a bit of a complicated process, but it worked out this time. I bought one for my girlfriend and I for the fused glass class. We didn't know what to expect and were happily surprised with the outcome. The teacher was very nice. She gave us directions and then let us on our The project could be easy as a pile of scraps or a very detailed design. The place is a bit hard to find. It's in a warehouse. When you pull in go all the way to your right and it's down on your left. There is a sign out front. We look forward to coming back and taking the blown glass class. read more

What kind of person buys a Groupon for a GLASS BLOWING CLASS, and then schedules it first thing in the morning on a SUNDAY...on the same day as Daylight Savings time?!?! What were you thinking?? This is going to SUCK." This is me on Sunday afternoon: "Christy, you rock. You're a glass blowing Jedi. Good call on the class, now you're even smarter and MORE talented that you thought. Glass kicks ass." Who knew that standing in a cold warehouse early on a Sunday would be so much fun?? The instructors were knowledgeable and funny, and gave demos and hands-on instruction in the art of molten glass. Even science nerds like me can ask questions about chemistry and get good answers. And art nerds can name-drop artists and styles and pretend to be cool. And for everyone in between, you can make a cool art piece to take home (though not right away, even when "cooled" they are too hot to touch. Plan to come back several days later to retrieve your handmade treasure). After the pieces were made, the instructors did a demo: a hand blown pilsner glass. Wow. This place is awesome! You can design all kinds of things out of glass here. There are classes offered for the novice. Glass blowing is also offered. This is actually what got my attention. I have always wanted to learn this skill. I took my daughter here for a girls day out. Such a cool bonding experience it was indeed. We made some cool pieces. Found a Groupon for this place and my husband and I did the glass fusion workshop. The Groupon price is just right, would not have been worth it if we had to pay more. It was a nice experience and we have these cute sushi plates for keepsake around the house. The owner was very nice. I found out about this place through Groupon and although I was a bit skeptical when I saw where it was located, I ended up loving my time there. For 38 bucks I did the intro to glass fusing, where you get to make two small sushi plates. What's great about this place is that the owner just teaches you the basics and lets you create whatever your mind desires. This place is great for all you DIY/artsy people, maybe not so much for people who just throw random pieces on. I'd definitely recommend trying it out however, regardless of your creative skill! It's a great way to spend 3 hours on a Saturday AND you can come back and use their studio! read more

I took the "Introduction to Glass Blowing" class. This class teaches you (along with 10 or so students) to "gather" molten glass, and shape it or "pull" it by hand--you will not actually "blow" glass in this introductory class, as there are LOTS of things to learn, basic skills wise, before you're able to do that. This class teaches you the foundation for working with molten glass, so you're able to advance to actual "blowing" later, if you want--I was not even REMOTELY disappointed that the class didn't include actual air-blowing, it was plenty challenging to learn the basics. I had such a good time, and can't wait to try another class! I had wanted to try this for so long, and I was so happy I did. I took the Christmas ornament class. Our ornaments turned out cute and we had a good time making them but this wasn't a "class." I walked in and no one acknowledged us or even said hello, even though there was a whole group of them sitting at a table so I had no idea if I was even in the right building. It just felt very unprofessional. The woman who was conducting the class just sat at her desk the whole time and didn't really assist us or come around to check on us or anything. Also, while some people may know more about glass related arts, I know nothing so I didn't realize that a glass fusion class meant we didn't get to work with fire at all. I figured we would get to melt the glass or something which you do not. So for those of you who also don't know but want to book a class, if you want to work with fire make sure you take one of the other classes. read more

I originally found Design with Fire from buying a Groupon. Took the bead-making class last July, and couldn't believe how much fun it was. For such a small price,I had a 2-hour class and left with five beads that I was really proud of. This week I have relatives visiting, and Linnea went way out of her way to accommodate their schedule. Took the class again last night, and we had a great time! I'll be going again in May with another friend. This is a GREAT class, and Linnea is a terrific teacher. They do bead making, glass fusion and glass blowing. I would definitely recommend them! read more

Linea and Patrick are extremely knowledgable and eager to share their knowledge and skill with glass. Next step for me? I have had the desire to learn the art of bead making for years. I never really knew how to go about finding a place that novices could feel comfortable, as well as a more experienced bead maker. The moment you walk in, it is an overwhelming sight to see torch stations, mandrels and glass works surrounding the workspace. I was hooked from the minute I saw the torch go on and heard Linnea explain her approach to making a bead. I was relieved that safety was paramount and Linnea explained the dos and dont's of working with fire prior to even picking up a rod. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient the stations are set up. Instruction was at a perfect pace and we were encouraged to find our own ideas of design, while receiving guidance from Linnea to improve our techniques. There is even an option to rent studio space after you feel comfortable being self-directed with techniques and equipment. I can't say enough positive adjectives about Linnea. She was wonderfully patient and kind even though my attempts at a perfect circular bead were futile. Highly recommend the bead making class. I'm bringing a friend for my next class and I'm going back in 2 weeks to practice my new skill set. It's much harder than the pro makes it look. read more

Found the glass fusing class through Groupon, and signed up both myself & boyfriend. Don't consider myself the creative - artsy sort, so wasn't sure if it would be fun, or intimidating. Figured that sushi plates sounded more manageable than glass blowing, anyway. Our class of 4 were given safety glasses and proper equipment and taught basics of cutting and fusing glass. We all practiced and supervised till we could handle ourselves, and then the fun began. There were large bins of glass pieces of all shapes and sizes to use. Hunting through the bins for an interesting shape, color or texture was my favorite part and I may have found my creative side! Time really flew by, but there was never any sense of being rushed. Our teacher was just a few steps away to ask any questions. Made two pieces and picked them up 1-2 weeks later. Love them both! Will try to post pictures. read more

Took a Sunday "Glass blowing" class here on a Groupon whim. The owners thoroughly exemplify why salty and sweet go better together... Patrick (the salty) is an addicted artist, a molten-glass Merlin, with an encyclopedic knowledge of every aspect of glasswork, a dry wit and juuust enough patience to deal with inane questions from the occasional retired hippie biologist who annoys all of the other students. Linnea (I hope that is her name, I am awful with names) is one of those genuinely NICE, encouraging people who could praise your achievement of blowing your own nose, and you would honestly believe her, and be proud of yourself. I have no idea how she manages that, but it's a pretty amazing quality in a person, none the less a teacher like she is. Pay no attention to the fact that you have to drive through "the get-toe" to get to the industrial warehouse park where this studio is located, once you get there, even on a weekend when everyone else was gone, it seemed like a very safe place to park and walk around. My only, even minor critique is just semantics, we technically didn't get to do any glass "blowing," what we did was shape some molten glass, I know, that's just picky. I would have liked the six person class be smaller, and I would have liked it to be longer (it was about three hours?) and would like to have liked to have built 3-4 things instead of 2, but I guess that is why they offer the $400 Two-and-a-half-day full-bore glassblowing class as a follow up. I would absolutely recommend this Glassblowing class, and I am very tempted to take either the fusing or beading one just to see more of what they do, and if I come across $400 that doesn't mean much to me, I would take the 2.5 day class in a heartbeat as well. read more
