You can only book once a month according to the website which is nice in my opinion that way you have a opportunity to get some good things. This is also a art studio so you can see the spaces artist have in the back as well. I also love that you can bring any supplies for the most part and donated some unique things were glass jars , cups, storage containers. I went around Christmas so there was a section of holiday supplies and decor. I scored some amazing things and would recommend folks to go if they have donations, picking up a new hobby or cant afford art supplies right now and still want to create. Took a throwing class with Terry, who was great. He was super informative and willing to help…read morethroughout all my four classes. I ended up making about 5 pieces throughout the four classes. We glazed during our fourth and final class, meaning we had to return to find our pieces. When I came back the fifth week, my pieces were still not fired in the kiln yet. So I decided to come back in two weeks. That's where I ran into my issue. All of our completed pieces are in a separate room where the glazing happens. There was another instructor, bald lady who I believe instructs the hand throwing class, who was teaching her class how to glaze. My friend and I were looking for our pieces, trying to be as quiet as possible. However, noise is going to be made as we're rummaging through a bunch of finished pieces. There are about four separate sections where our pieces could be, so as we were going through the finished pottery pieces, someone from her class asked my friend and I to be quiet, which we were already trying to be as quiet as possible. She said that we were being rude and disruptive. However, this is just the nature of this room. People are going to be going in and out, trying to find their pieces, as they only place the finalized pieces here. This is when I expected the bald instructor to speak up but she was super rude as well. She was demeaning and condescending towards us. She talked down to us as if my friend and I were 5 years old. When we were looking through the non fired pieces, she raised her voice telling us not to touch the pieces if they weren't ours. The issue is, when you paint the glaze, not only does your piece look completely different, but the glaze is all different types of crazy colors. The only way to verify if the piece is yours is if you find your name on the bottom of the piece. So not only were we not able to verify if those pieces were ours, as the instructor was giving us attitude, we weren't able to find all of our pieces. We went back to our instructor, who was kind enough to find our pieces for us. Overall, we had a good experience but that last instructor really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm conflicted on what score to give, and really feel as though how are you an instructor when you are so rude? For sure left a bad taste in my mouth.

If you park near the Enterprise lot, the staff there will ask you to move your car (learned that the hard way), so plan to park on the street if possible. Now onto the class--overall, I had a good experience. The staff is super friendly and happy to answer any questions. They give all the instructions at the beginning, then you work independently while they check in with you periodically. Everyone has a different learning style, so this teaching method may work really well for some, while others (like me!) might prefer a more hands-on, step-by-step approach. Either way, I had a good time and I'm so glad I gave it a try!

This store was sold to someone in California and moved to California. In this sale/transition, I had items in the system to be finished. The wait for items during that time was a year+. Note that I invested $1K+ for the canvases and threads for these "sets" before prepaying for the finish work. The pre-paid finish work was over $1k. Previously, I've never had issues, so didn't think anything about time or $$. I knew it would show up eventually. When I got my finished items about a 1.5 years later, the finish work was all over the board and not what I asked for. I had some that were "soft" ornaments, which is what I asked for. Some where thing framed hard, some where think framed hard. The problem with this is that they were ornament "sets". So the finish work of each set didn't match. I called the new store and they told me that if I sent back the "sets" they'd send them out to have them "redone". I sent them all back at my cost and was told that it would be another year+ since they had to go back in line in the system for finishing. I agreed and then didn't think much about them. 2 years later I got a box of ripped up unfinished ornaments/needlepoint canvases with zero explanation. Imagine my shock! I called and asked "why they sent them back in the condition that they are in" . I got the run around on explanation for over a year, I kept having to send in the original paperwork and explain over and over to new people. My request was to complete the finish work that I paid for or refund the money so I could find someone to finish them on my own. They just kept giving me the run around, then a new person would respond and we'd go through the same process over and over. I am on my 5th person now. They offered me $200 to call it good. I declined. I think my next step is to take them to "quick claim court", I need to investigate how to do this. I recommend NEVER to use this company. There are so many other "needlework" shops out there that are reputable and super supportive. Its just been frustrating trying to deal with them long distance and since they don't answer their phone EVER, leaving messages and sending emails does nothing.

The instructor gathered some glass and did the initial shaping while explaining what he was doing and allowed each student to add their colors. We were able to reheat the glass in the glory hole under supervision and they assisted us in shaping. They were very hands on and did some of the more difficult things for you but definitely allowed you to try before taking over if necessary. We learned a lot and we had a good time. It is a very expensive experience but it definitely has value. You leave with knowledge, experience and a nice keepsake. I think a class here would make a great gift for someone or a fun activity to do with a friend or on a date and I would definitely come back here, especially if someone else was footing the bill!

It is time consuming, but was so worth it. The $41 Groupon gets you two plates to design and they also have glass blowing and bead making classes as well. I was a bit confused at times on the process being a total newb, but I'm so excited to see how my art turned out when coming back next weekend. Full COVID safety is in full force here with sanitation measures of the products. You do sign a waiver acknowledging release of liability in case of any injuries but safety is super simple and straightforward. It's super easy to get the hang of and I really had a great time! I'm so glad that I have finally paid a meaningful visit to Rumpelstiltskin Yarn Store recently. Rumpelstiltskin, located on the R St corridor, is quite a long-standing establishment in Sacramento that has been providing the Sacramento fiber art community with supplies and knowledge for over 50 years! Rumpelstiltskin sells a wide selection of high-quality yarns, fiber art tools, and other supplies for crocheting, knitting, spinning, and weaving, so there's definitely a great variety of products offered here for various interests. Perhaps because the skill level of my two fiber art hobbies, crocheting and knitting, are quite elementary and have not improved much over the years, I've so far had all my yarn needs met at the more conventional arts and crafts stores of the big box variety. But as I am getting more serious about my yarn hobbies, I'm now interested in finding stores that offer more specialized products and even provide classes that will help me improve in my crafts skills. I am also looking to connect more with the fiber art community in Sacramento because my venture into joining that community so far has shown me how warm and welcoming fiber artists are and it is totally possible to learn from seasoned hobbyists and pros/teachers if one puts their mind to it. I've even connected with some very local yarn enthusiasts at my local library and I'm sure they all have visited Rumpelstiltskin. On this visit, I saw lots of exclusive brands and types of yarn made of much better material than I'm used to using. From basic wool to more specialized Merino, Alpaca, and Shetland, there were many different kinds available. One I particular liked was the cashmere wool which felt heavenly. I learned that Rumpelstiltskin makes it a point to partner with fiber farms and other small boutique fiber suppliers to source yarn and other fiber products that are not only exclusive, but that are truly local and US-made as much as possible. Rumpelstiltskin even shares the stories behind each brand they carry and even hosts "Farm to Needle" events to introduce some of their thoughtfully curated products that are specially selected for their quality and uniqueness. As such I noticed that the prices of their products are definitely several times higher than that of regular arts and crafts stores, but again Rumpelstiltskin sells really high-quality yarns and supplies. I did not have any questions for staff during my visit, but I saw a class taking place and noticed that besides the looks of concentration, it was smiles all around as everyone was really enjoying their class, so I'm also going to look into taking a class or joining in one of Rumpelstiltskin's events. Just from a quick glance at their website, I see offerings of beginner's knitting classes for adults and kids, an embroidery intro class, a felted slippers class which sounds super interesting and practical, a sweater class for those who are ready for bigger projects, and even basket coiling, spindle spinning, spinning wheel, and weaving classes. Besides the classes that have costs associated and private lessons for those who want 1:1 instruction, there are also monthly and periodic free knitting circles for kids and social stitch events. I did not interact with staff today, so I can't speak on customer service, but maybe on a future shopping trip, I'll hopefully be helped if needed. In short, Rumpelstiltskin really is a wonderful staple in the Sacramento community for fiber art beginners, hobbyists, and pro-level enthusiasts alike and I'm so glad I know more about Rumpelstiltskin now so I can feel comfortable to come back for higher-quality yarn and supplies for more serious projects as well as for classes and events to connect with our local fiber art community.
