There is a high school student show, "Elements" with an opening reception April 29th 4-6pm. I saw the show during galley hours today and the artworks are all excellent. It's a small local studio and gallery and free to come see it. read more

Took a throwing class with Terry, who was great. He was super informative and willing to help throughout all my four classes. I ended up making about 5 pieces throughout the four classes. We glazed during our fourth and final class, meaning we had to return to find our pieces. When I came back the fifth week, my pieces were still not fired in the kiln yet. So I decided to come back in two weeks. That's where I ran into my issue. All of our completed pieces are in a separate room where the glazing happens. There was another instructor, bald lady who I believe instructs the hand throwing class, who was teaching her class how to glaze. My friend and I were looking for our pieces, trying to be as quiet as possible. However, noise is going to be made as we're rummaging through a bunch of finished pieces. There are about four separate sections where our pieces could be, so as we were going through the finished pottery pieces, someone from her class asked my friend and I to be quiet, which we were already trying to be as quiet as possible. She said that we were being rude and disruptive. However, this is just the nature of this room. People are going to be going in and out, trying to find their pieces, as they only place the finalized pieces here. This is when I expected the bald instructor to speak up but she was super rude as well. She was demeaning and condescending towards us. She talked down to us as if my friend and I were 5 years old. When we were looking through the non fired pieces, she raised her voice telling us not to touch the pieces if they weren't ours. The issue is, when you paint the glaze, not only does your piece look completely different, but the glaze is all different types of crazy colors. The only way to verify if the piece is yours is if you find your name on the bottom of the piece. So not only were we not able to verify if those pieces were ours, as the instructor was giving us attitude, we weren't able to find all of our pieces. We went back to our instructor, who was kind enough to find our pieces for us. Overall, we had a good experience but that last instructor really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm conflicted on what score to give, and really feel as though how are you an instructor when you are so rude? For sure left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Reviewing what I believe is the same as my previously reviewed business because it appears twice here on Yelp. I love this little gallery. Tucked in one of my favorite streets since I moved to Sacramento, Winding Way in Fair Oaks. It's practically a little house turned gallery and it's just adorable. I really enjoy that they feature local artists with different themes every month. I've seen some really beautiful work there. Two of my children have had pieces on exhibition at this gallery and I happen to have one there this month under my artist/social media name. They also have a ceramics studio where they teach classes. The volunteers and employees are super pleasant and help give this place a very welcoming feel to it. If you're ever in the area be sure to stop in and look at the work being featured that month. read more

I have been looking for a place to do some pottery for years. I came here for a kid's birthday party this past weekend and the kids had a lot of fun. The kids get to build pieces and glaze them. The pieces get fired and then we can pick up the pieces in a few weeks. The teacher was very nice. The room where the kids did their work was small so parents had to sit in the courtyard. There pottery wheels to throw pieces and there were some adults just hand building pieces. They offer classes or you can just be a member and use their facilities. The only problem I found was parking. Will I come here again? Definitely read more

Clay therapy. If you've never tried it before, you've never had a chance to just let your unconscious express itself through the medium of clay. And don't give me that, "I'm not an artist" bull crap. Everyone is an artist! We just express ourselves differently. ACAI Gallery is a little off the beaten tracks in the suburbs of Fair Oaks. Located on Winding Way, it's ACROSS the street from the corner strip mall (where Takieng Thai is) in a converted house. Tons of parking! As an actual 501c3 you can take parent/child pottery classes, adult wheel classes or sculpting classes, anything related to pottery. There are tons of glazes, four working kilns and one for raku firing. You can also rent out artist studio space or pay a monthly fee to use the studio. There is also a gallery onsite that showcases local artists. Instructors show you the basics you need to make your own creations and masterpieces. Also for that person who "has everything" this is the perfect spot to make a one-of-a-kind birthday or Christmas gift. Taking pottery has taught me the lesson of impermanence and non-attachment. At my solo attempts on the wheel I've made a lot of "tornados" -- objects that start out as beautiful bowls and vases but invariably get twisted into abstractions of weirdness. read more

My daughter and I were in need of a bonding mother/daughter activity. I love art, she loves art so this was a perfect fit! I signed us up for the parent/child class with instruction. It was around $140 (it was a gift from my husband so I don't know the exact amount.) That included 6 classes which were usually about 4-6 students and the instructor. Our teacher was very skilled and allowed us to choose what we wanted to learn. We learned how to make drop-plates, work the wheel and do some coil cups. The class price included all supplies! The studio was neat and tidy with a lot of cool people and a great location. We did this class about a year ago (I've been meaning to write this review.) My daughter keeps begging to return! Instructors provide the guidance you need to create one-of-a-kind gifts for yourself or those you love. There are tons of glazes, four kilns and even one for raku firing. * You can rent out artist studio space or pay a monthly fee to use the studio. * They have a great gallery space with monthly shows where you can find the work of many talented local artists available for sale. * ADA compliant parking lot with lots of parking * They are friendly and helpful. I have been there many times, sometimes as an artist in a show in the gallery and sometimes as a customer for art for my home or my friends. Do not come here if you are looking to establish a sincere ceramics membership. My time was not respected or appreciated; they favor the retired persons that have the opportunity to stop in multiple times, in a single week, to get a simple membership established. Carol told me to come back on a specific day and time and yet she, nor anyone capable, was able to get me started on membership paperwork or accept membership payment. After waiting 45 minutes in the lobby I was told by multiple personnel that someone "might" be in the studio at this time or "might" be here or there at another time to be able to assist me. The persons assisting running this Studios "business hours" were not properly equipped to handle simple tasks. The only reason this review has two stars is because during a brief walk-through it seemingly appeared clean. read more

This is a fun and very interesting gallery that has amazing art. Their curator is Carol Brewer and she is outstanding. Carol has an artist eye for the works she includes in her gallery and helps make the tour of the gallery a enjoyable event. I highly recommend. An amazing experience with clay!! I called to ask about their drop-in opportunities. My young daughters were very interested in clay and I was searching for some good quality instruction (it really is tough to find for young ones!). The lady who answered was very kind and responsive and said someone would call me back to let me know about drop-ins (they are a clay studio that also host classes, clay camps, even birthdays!). The next day I got a message about the various days and times. When we showed up an instructor gave us a tour of the studio and gallery. They spent about an hour and a half with my girls giving them enough clay for various projects, showing them different techniques and molds while encouraging exploration. They loved it!! There was also a sculpting artist who took his time to show them a little about clay throwing. The cost was so reasonable for all the time and attention they got ($20 per drop in when we went). We have yet to go back to glaze their projects which is considered part of the original visit so no repayment required. The girls (and now my husband) are really looking forward to our visit back! read more
