The sweet owner Meleya was our instructor and had the mimosa bar and our work space, nicely organized with all of our tools and ingredients, set up when we arrived for our 90 minute class. She had some pre-printed recipe suggestions for us or we could make up our own concoctions as far as what scents we liked. Everyone's individual sugar scrubs turned out amazing! It was such a fun and enjoyable time, sipping on our mimosas and getting our hands dirty (and by that, I actually mean, getting our hands CLEAN AND SOFT AND SMELLING WONDERFUL!). Perfect spot to host a special event (birthdays, showers, etc.) or if you're just in a crafting mood. So gather your friends, make something awesome, and have a great time!

You can book your own private party, you can bring food and snacks for that or use their local chefs and bakers. Visiting here with a group of friends would be fun, for girls night out. For such a small school there is an abundance of opportunities for the students onsite. Like a pool, laundromat, student kitchen, garden, and playground. Onsite occupational therapy, speech therapy and behavior therapy. Students also get to go out in the community to learn real world skills. Odyssey doesnt use food reinforcement but instead looks at more valuable rewards like prefferred items, activities and praise. They also focus on teaching students how to get they needs met in safe ways instead of using a punishment system. This is their mission statement, "Odyssey Learning Center is committed to enhancing the lives of children with autism, using a collaborative approach to educate and nurture them in their journey towards independence with integrity and dignity." When you go visit to see if this is the school you want to bring your child to, things are always "perfect" as the classroom you will be checking out is informed prior to you getting there and even if a child is not behaving he/she is moved to a different classroom. If you are visiting and didn't go to the office, the minute any staff sees you they call the classroom your child is in to inform them that you have arrived. My son has a few behavioral issues as most if not all of the children at that school do. He acts the same way at home and I have NEVER had to resort to restraining and neither has anyone that worked with him before or after this school. While at Odyssey I would pick up my son some days exhausted to the point of falling asleep in the car, hungry and with bruises and nail marks embedded on his skin. Every time I expressed my concern to anyone there, they would brush me off and even lie about what had happened. Well as time went by and getting information from different sources whom I will not mention I started discovering disturbing things... If my son reached out and grabbed food from someone else's plate, his lunch was taken away from him so that he would not "steal". On numerous occasions staff would get upset at him and squeeze him by the arms leaving bruises or embedding nails til they opened skin. They rotate turns and the staff that worked with him in the AM was not the same as after lunch but I started noticing that every single time he worked with a specific girl, he was hurt. I even got into an argument with her in the class (all students were gone for the day) for which I was labeled as psycho for. She got fired recently... I know why and if Odyssey could respond honestly without getting into trouble they would now agree that the girl truly was sick in the head because what she got fired for could have even had her arrested. Once I picked my son up and he had what looked like a rug burn on his chin. Nobody knew what it was, how it happened. I was not taking that for an answer. They produced a false "incident report" having a new staff member sign it. I made a stink about that and had the teacher removed from that classroom also and my son continued at that school. Well eventually I found out that the children were being wrapped like burritos in giant yoga mats when they weren't behaving. I saw this a few times. They would call it "sensory". Let me explain something here... it is sensory if the child is in need of that pressure, done properly and for a specific amount of time. Oh and with sensory there aren't 2 women sitting on top of the child. I asked them if they were doing that only to find out that any time my son even looked like he was going to have a melt down he was wrapped. That kids were told "behave otherwise you are getting wrapped". That is not sensory, that is PUNISHMENT AND RESTRAINT! (I've enclosed pics of the mat bitten by restrained children all over the edges) Anyway I found out it was the wrapping that got my son hurt (rug burns on the chin). I can go on about this school, the NUTS that work there, their messed up doings, etc. but I'm surprised you have even read this far. If anyone wants any other information do not hesitate to contact me as I have NO problems telling you what they will not and I have PLENTY of witnesses that can back up anything I will tell you. Parents engaging in conversation is frowned upon and if any parents are talking to each other on campus, they are being monitored. In a meeting the principal lied to my face. She knew she was lying and I knew she was lying. That was very scary as she was bold enough to go ahead with her lie to cover her behind. The staff that works there (other than the teachers) does not need any prior experience working with special needs children. They are finger printed and a little background check is performed. PS when telling the San Juan Unified School District about Odyssey's practices their response was always that Odyssey was a private entity that they contracted with and that there was nothing they could do about anything. Well here... there should be no problems with me YELPING a private entity, A BUSINESS. And if anyone at Odyssey feels the need to address me, do it IN WRITING... choose your words wisely as I will make any and all responses public information. Your wrong doings have been kept quiet too long.

There is a very thorough screening process that comes with becoming a Big. A background check, Livescan, and interview are a few of the components. My match with Aj (my little) has been overwhelmingly successful. BBBS asks that you commit to a one year match, and spend approx. 6 hours a month with your little. They stress that quality time is the best route, i.e - walk in the park, zoo, museums, etc... If you are interested in investing your time into our youths, I highly suggest getting involved with BBBS. I can assure you, you will learn more about yourself than you think, annnnd giving back your time is so beneficial for your soul and mental well being. Lynn Morrison teaches water color painting, acrylic painting, drawing and multi-media arts. She really is a wonder and a supportive and generous teacher. I like her pattern of showing how a certain work is started, layered, and completed as the class worked along side of her. This year they added Asian Fine art brush and ink painting. Myungsook Piette really knows her medium and is very generous with materials. She demonstrates technique and allows lots of time to practice. Each session we learned one of the "Four Gentlemen" and mounted a completed painting. We also carved our own stamp to sign our works. There is also photography instruction. I found the material useful in class, but I don't own the software, so I couldn't practice outside of class. The teacher Roy Salisbury is very well prepared and knows what he is talking about. In the spring students can show their work at a week-long art show at Mesa Verde High School. There is also an art sale later in the spring. Which takes me to the city of Folsom where we both had the opportunity in checking out "Snowline Thrift Store". Located directly on East Bidwell St and adjacent to Glenn Dr, this very well-known thrift store has been serving the Folsom community and its surrounding areas dating back to 1979. Best of all, the money that is collected goes towards hospice care for a variety of hospitals and care facilities in the greater Sacramento area. My lady and I came here during the afternoon on Saturday 5/30/2026 at around 3:00pm. As for the exterior of building, this place offers ample parking for a couple dozen vehicles which is very convenient on the busier days. Upon entry, I was greeted by a huge jukebox (that sounded amazing) playing lots of great upbeat music; my kind of vibe when I am thrifting. The main register is near the front entrance while there are actual fitting rooms (unlike Goodwill) where you can try your clothes on before you buy. Finally, they do offer a single one-person restroom towards the mid-rear part of the building. Business hours are also quite reasonable as they are open Monday through Saturday from 9am-7pm and Sunday from 11am-7pm. The overall prices here are quite reasonable as they sell a nice assortment of men's, women's, and children's apparel all at decent prices. Here you will find quite a bit of tees, polos, blouses, pants, jeans, skirts, outerwear, ties, shoes, and much more. They also carry a nice variety of glasses, dishes, small kitchen appliances, home apparel, artificial plants, mirrors, artwork, and even larger items such as tables, recliners, curio cabinets, and bedroom/living room furniture. And for the bookworm/audiophile in all of us, this place sells quite a decent amount of books, movies (VHS/DVD), music (vinyl records/CD's). During our visit, my lady was able to make a few amazing purchases on some small accessories for her workstation as well as some nice little side pieces for the living room. Even when she took these items to the front register, they gave her a better deal which meant she left paying a lot less than she had anticipated. However, the store itself was a little bit cluttered but still easy enough to navigate around. With the above average customer service, decent selection, and very reasonable prices on much of their merchandise, I am giving the Folsom "Snowline Thrift Store" an above average four stars.

I'm so glad that I have finally paid a meaningful visit to Rumpelstiltskin Yarn Store recently. Rumpelstiltskin, located on the R St corridor, is quite a long-standing establishment in Sacramento that has been providing the Sacramento fiber art community with supplies and knowledge for over 50 years! Rumpelstiltskin sells a wide selection of high-quality yarns, fiber art tools, and other supplies for crocheting, knitting, spinning, and weaving, so there's definitely a great variety of products offered here for various interests. Perhaps because the skill level of my two fiber art hobbies, crocheting and knitting, are quite elementary and have not improved much over the years, I've so far had all my yarn needs met at the more conventional arts and crafts stores of the big box variety. But as I am getting more serious about my yarn hobbies, I'm now interested in finding stores that offer more specialized products and even provide classes that will help me improve in my crafts skills. I am also looking to connect more with the fiber art community in Sacramento because my venture into joining that community so far has shown me how warm and welcoming fiber artists are and it is totally possible to learn from seasoned hobbyists and pros/teachers if one puts their mind to it. I've even connected with some very local yarn enthusiasts at my local library and I'm sure they all have visited Rumpelstiltskin. On this visit, I saw lots of exclusive brands and types of yarn made of much better material than I'm used to using. From basic wool to more specialized Merino, Alpaca, and Shetland, there were many different kinds available. One I particular liked was the cashmere wool which felt heavenly. I learned that Rumpelstiltskin makes it a point to partner with fiber farms and other small boutique fiber suppliers to source yarn and other fiber products that are not only exclusive, but that are truly local and US-made as much as possible. Rumpelstiltskin even shares the stories behind each brand they carry and even hosts "Farm to Needle" events to introduce some of their thoughtfully curated products that are specially selected for their quality and uniqueness. As such I noticed that the prices of their products are definitely several times higher than that of regular arts and crafts stores, but again Rumpelstiltskin sells really high-quality yarns and supplies. I did not have any questions for staff during my visit, but I saw a class taking place and noticed that besides the looks of concentration, it was smiles all around as everyone was really enjoying their class, so I'm also going to look into taking a class or joining in one of Rumpelstiltskin's events. Just from a quick glance at their website, I see offerings of beginner's knitting classes for adults and kids, an embroidery intro class, a felted slippers class which sounds super interesting and practical, a sweater class for those who are ready for bigger projects, and even basket coiling, spindle spinning, spinning wheel, and weaving classes. Besides the classes that have costs associated and private lessons for those who want 1:1 instruction, there are also monthly and periodic free knitting circles for kids and social stitch events. I did not interact with staff today, so I can't speak on customer service, but maybe on a future shopping trip, I'll hopefully be helped if needed. In short, Rumpelstiltskin really is a wonderful staple in the Sacramento community for fiber art beginners, hobbyists, and pro-level enthusiasts alike and I'm so glad I know more about Rumpelstiltskin now so I can feel comfortable to come back for higher-quality yarn and supplies for more serious projects as well as for classes and events to connect with our local fiber art community.
