We spoke to two other trainers when we were looking for a trainer for our one year old German…read moreShepherd and Kelli was the only one that I felt truly cared about our dog. Our dog was reactive and needed training on pretty much the basics. She worked with him and he is doing so much better now. We would highly recommend Kelli!

Kelli is, without a doubt, the absolute best dog trainer you will find in Sacramento, or anywhere…read morefor that matter. Believe me, I searched tirelessly, contacting almost every single dog trainer in the area, and even tried out five others before discovering her. Back in July 2022, my husband and I decided to adopt a 9-month-old American Staffordshire Terrier from the SPCA. This poor guy was malnourished, neglected, and, we assume, abused. Despite his difficult past, he remained the sweetest and most endearing pup you could ever meet. However, due to being confined to a kennel for most of his early life, he lacked impulse control, had no understanding of proper dog manners, and became easily overwhelmed by the mere act of being outside. After encountering numerous false starts with trainers who lacked confidence, insisted on weeks of teaching him his new name (which he already knew along with a few basic commands), or relied heavily on negative reinforcement, we were starting to lose hope. Fortunately, a friend recommended Coffey House. Recognizing the need for both our dog and ourselves to be properly trained, we opted for the day-train program. From the very first session, we witnessed a remarkable improvement. Of course, he wasn't perfect overnight, but after completing her day-train program, attending additional classes, and committing ourselves to, as of now, 7 months of consistent work, we finally feel confident taking him out for walks and running short errands. We can now walk past other dogs without experiencing the previous meltdowns. It's hard to put into words how much progress we've made since that initial phone call, when we had almost given up hope of ever being able to take our dog for a simple walk. Not only is Kelli exceptional with dogs, but she is also an incredible person. Our training sessions with her were truly enjoyable, and we continue to stay in touch, sharing little photos of our dog's achievements with her. I must admit, our dog absolutely adores her. It's clear that she has become his favorite person, and we're not too proud to admit it! I cannot emphasize enough how highly I recommend Kelli. Her skills as a dog trainer are unparalleled, and her genuine care and passion shine through in every interaction. If you're in need of a dog trainer who will not only transform your dog's behavior but also provide a wonderful experience for you and your furry friend, look no further!

I have gone back and forth about writing this review, because I know small business owners need…read moresupport. It is actually been sitting in my draft folder for a few years, However, I feel like I want to share my experience. I had rescued a cattle dog who was a good boy but was afraid of everything (he had lived in a kennel for most of his life) and needed some work walking on a leash and some recall. I booked a 2 week Bootcamp with Tierney, and I was told by Justine - her partner that lived on the East Coast - that it was perfect timing because my boy would be the only dog. Apparently, Tierney was moving, but said she had plenty of time to work with my boy. What I didn't know - and was not divulged when I signed up - was the the move was an hour away! (And they actually did have a second dog they were working with). This means a 2 hour round-trip, not including loading and unloading and pit-stops. My boy was a pretty easy dog - and he did not get the training that I paid for. I voiced my concerns, especially when I came up for a visit lesson and noticed not much improvement. They said she would keep him for an extra week. The second issue I had was a lack of communication. I got a handful of photos and that was it. It was always me having to reach out to find out what was going on with my dog. Super frustrating! I mean, I am trusting you with my baby and you can't update me? Nothing on the Facebook page, nothing on Instagram, and only a few photos through Messenger. And that was after three weeks of having my dog. And then with the follow up sessions...there was always some reason why she had to re-schedule. I get it, life happens, but it just got so frustrating trying to constantly reschedule sessions that I was supposed to get, that I ended up just finally canceling on the last one. All of the things that I received back that I dropped off with him, it was either super dirty and smelly, or didn't get it back at all. Hopefully things will get better, and hope they are at better facilities than when I was there, from a duplex when I dropped him off, to picking him up in a barn they were living in, with no bathroom any indoor space away from dirt. I do hope things get better for her, because I think she has skills with working with dogs, but definitely need to work on organization, punctuality and communication. (I gave two stars instead of one because I was trying to be nice, but I know several people were not happy but didn't post reviews so I felt like there should be one representing those of us who had bad experiences instead of just all the five star reviews that are there now)

This is extremely overdue (like, close to a year.. I'm so sorry Tierney!)…read more Working with Tierney was a wonderful experience! She is extremely knowledgeable about all things dog training and it shows. I'm so glad we didn't try and teach our dog on our own, it's been a big learning experience for us. Our dog Mishka is fairly sensitive, when we originally started to try one training approach Tierney quickly saw that it wasn't right, and pivoted to a different approach. That's been working great and we have seen such amazing improvements with Mishka since starting training. We can't thank Tierney enough! She's also was very flexible and accommodating to our time/budget/etc. to make training possible.

We rescued a wild and rambunctious husky/shepherd mix named Amber that was about a year old,…read moreaccording to the pet shelter. Although both of us have had dogs before, we didn't think things through, and the new dog quickly turned our life upside down. The biggest problem was that she was chasing our cats everywhere around the house and had terrible manners. We were worried that we would have to return her to the shelter if she couldn't cohabitate with our 4 cats. I scoured reviews on Google and Yelp and came across Primal Needs Behavioral Solutions. I reached out and Blair was willing to hop on a call right away. He patiently listened and answered several questions, then explained he offers two programs; a month board and train or virtual training with Zoom session checkpoints. Although it was an investment, we opted for the board and train for Amber. At the same time, we did the virtual training for our other dog Ginger, a golden retriever. While Blair worked one on one with Amber at his house, we went through the online modules in the virtual program. The program is very detailed, including videos and narratives for each section. Blair was readily available for any questions or concerns we had along the way. The program does use an e-collar and we were initially apprehensive, but once we understood this was simply a tool to get our dog's attention and tried it on ourselves, it was not an issue. Like most programs, you get out what you put in. We did the work, learned a ton from Blair, and made a friend for life, but most importantly, Amber came back behaving like a different dog and the training worked! She is still a sweetheart, but now listens and behaves well. Blair has taught us how to communicate, correct, and redirect our dogs when needed. The transfer training sets Blair and Primal Needs Behavioral Solutions apart from the rest. We couldn't have done it without Blair and highly recommend his training. Jenn & Astin

I was referred to Blair's Primal Needs Behavioral Solutions Virtual Guide Program and purchased it…read morefor $1,249. I appreciated the clear upfront pricing on the website, and Blair himself reached out to me the same day. You'll need a few extra tools (kennel, e-collar, retractable leash, etc.), and Blair provided a full list with direct Amazon links to the best pricing, which made things simple. I shared my goals and my dog's starting point with Blair--my 2-year-old Husky mix (male) loved to jump and pull on the leash. The program is self-paced with pre-recorded videos, required reading, and Zoom sessions with Blair to review progress. The program foundation is a daily schedule. The schedule can be modified to fit your day to day routine like for people who work M-F. I'll admit--I was originally against e-collars. I thought they were cruel. Blair took the time to educate me, and I even tried the collar on myself first. It's not torture--it's a communication tool, and when used correctly it makes all the difference. Blair is incredibly responsive. I would apply what I learned, record myself working with my dog, and send him the video. His feedback and corrections were always constructive and on point. The biggest takeaway: learning how to correct your dog correctly. Once you understand that, you can teach your dog just about anything. Results? My dog no longer jumps or pulls on the leash, and as a bonus, he'll stay in place while I eat meals! If you're dealing with behavioral issues, it's often just a breakdown in communication--and Blair teaches you exactly how to fix that. Plus, his videos are entertaining and humorous. I highly recommend this program. If you take it seriously and commit, it truly works.
