Back in July 2022, my husband and I decided to adopt a 9-month-old American Staffordshire Terrier from the SPCA. This poor guy was malnourished, neglected, and, we assume, abused. Despite his difficult past, he remained the sweetest and most endearing pup you could ever meet. However, due to being confined to a kennel for most of his early life, he lacked impulse control, had no understanding of proper dog manners, and became easily overwhelmed by the mere act of being outside. After encountering numerous false starts with trainers who lacked confidence, insisted on weeks of teaching him his new name (which he already knew along with a few basic commands), or relied heavily on negative reinforcement, we were starting to lose hope. Fortunately, a friend recommended Coffey House. Recognizing the need for both our dog and ourselves to be properly trained, we opted for the day-train program. From the very first session, we witnessed a remarkable improvement. Of course, he wasn't perfect overnight, but after completing her day-train program, attending additional classes, and committing ourselves to, as of now, 7 months of consistent work, we finally feel confident taking him out for walks and running short errands. We can now walk past other dogs without experiencing the previous meltdowns. It's hard to put into words how much progress we've made since that initial phone call, when we had almost given up hope of ever being able to take our dog for a simple walk. Not only is Kelli exceptional with dogs, but she is also an incredible person. Our training sessions with her were truly enjoyable, and we continue to stay in touch, sharing little photos of our dog's achievements with her. I must admit, our dog absolutely adores her. She is extremely knowledgeable about all things dog training and it shows. I'm so glad we didn't try and teach our dog on our own, it's been a big learning experience for us. Our dog Mishka is fairly sensitive, when we originally started to try one training approach Tierney quickly saw that it wasn't right, and pivoted to a different approach. That's been working great and we have seen such amazing improvements with Mishka since starting training. We can't thank Tierney enough! I adopted my dog and he was extremely nervous. Zero contact with humans since he was born. Only like other dogs. I left him 2 weeks initially but Tierney would tell me that he needs one more week and he ended up being 5 weeks there. I cooked and gave them his homemade food. I provided the food for the whole time there. I was not able to visit him and they brought him back to my house. When I saw him, I was shock. He was in his bones. I could see all this skeleton. She said that he just didn't eat a lot. ...why didn't they call me ? Then, in the house with the handover of my dog, she acted like a Military, basically my dog fear her. I didn't even want to see trick that she showed him" because I could see the dog was suffering only with her presence. She left and I was glad that at least I had my dog back. I had to take him to vet to check and he was in extremely bad health condition. I gave her my dog perfectly healthy. I really regret taking my dog here and I recommend that if your dog is humble and afraid dog, don't take them here. This is not the place for those type of dogs. After this training, he didn't change at all- still bark, still pull and more afraid of people than before .

They are being "worked " (trained) separately and, as of the past week (because it's getting dark so early and because it's now doable), they also get a long walk together. We have been at it about two months and have made significant progress (with lots of room for more!) Don't forget that it is up to the dog owner to do the work--neither Don nor the dogs can bear any responsibility for the lack of progress when the only way to improve the dogs' behavior is to be consistent in demanding (and enforcing) what you want. But Don is very patient with the dogs and me, so I can try to emulate his techniques with the dogs daily, between sessions.

My dog has been....... unpredictable when it comes to meeting people and other dogs, and recently decided to eat our couch. She DOES hear me when I used to tell her to come, but instead of coming to me, she'd wag her tail and chase whatever's more important in the back bushes. I have used other trainers in the past and this is by far the most progress I have seen out of my dog, Skippy. Before skippy was always pulling on her leash but now is starting to walk by my side. We struggled for a really long time to find the right groomer for our Goldendoodle, Pearl. After…read moretrying five different groomers, we met Julie in April 2026, and she has truly been a game changer for us. I knew from our very first appointment that Julie was different. I told her I wanted a "summer cut," and instead of just assuming she knew what I meant, she immediately asked, "What is a summer cut to you? Because to me, that could mean something completely different." That one question said so much about the way Julie approaches her work. At every appointment, she genuinely listens to what we're looking for and offers suggestions that always seem to perfectly align with what we're trying to achieve. She pays attention to the little details and takes getting it right seriously. She'll even have the front call during the groom if she comes across an area where she wants to double-check how we'd like it cut rather than just making an assumption. That level of care and communication is something we had never experienced with another groomer. But what means the most to me is the way Julie is with Pearl. Pearl is a Goldendoodle with a lot of emotions, and grooming has never exactly been her favorite activity. Before Julie, I could immediately tell when I picked Pearl up that she had been absolutely miserable. Now, when I pick her up after seeing Julie, she's bouncing around, happy, and genuinely seems at ease. The difference in her demeanor is incredible, and as her owner, that means everything to me. After searching for so long, I can't say enough good things about Julie. She listens, communicates, pays attention to every detail, and most importantly, has earned Pearl's trust. We are so grateful we finally found her!
