I have been using them for the past several months when I'm gone for a day or two. My cat loves them and they come running when i bring him to check in. Everyone is super friendly. I occasionally add on a nail trim which is super convenient. I wish their check out was a touch later, currently it is by noon, or at least had the option (with a fee of course) to pick up at a later time. Krishna is an absolute superstar! When my dog Pearl's original groomer wasn't available, Krishna swooped in and totally saved the day. She even adjusted her schedule to make sure Pearl could still get her spa time -- talk about going above and beyond! She treated Pearl with so much love and patience, and Pearl strutted out smelling amazing and looking cuter than ever. NO OVERNIGHT CARE!!! DOGS LEFT ALONE. DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE! IT IS NOT SAFE There is no staff onsite after hours. Your pet would have no one in the case of an emergency - medical, fire, stress.... This establishment has dogs locked into places that lack any comfort- the chain link and lack of bedding makes that clear. Your dog will only be let out while staff is present. They don't exercise your dog outside of their facility. They seem to use slip collars even when dogs have their own collars or harnesses. Staff are rude and seem to just be friends with each other. Best Friends Pet Hotel - Heading home clean and tired! - Pet Groomers Near Me - Carmichael, California

I used to really like this place. They were recommended by my vet, who doesn't have the space available to provide boarding on site, for my cat who is in his senior years, and on an oral laxative twice a day. However, based on my most recent experience, I can no longer recommend them, especially if your pets are older, or require any kind of medication. Thanks to new ownership (or leadership, I'm not sure), they are now unlikely to take your pet under those circumstances. I recognize it is hard to find a place that will take older pets on meds, and it was more than I wanted to ask a cat sitter to come to my house and do while I was traveling, so I was thrilled when my vet recommended Best Friends, and had a really positive first experience with them. I've been bringing my cat here now for about 7 years, once or twice a year when we travel. He has been scheduled for both mid-August and late September since around mid-February. Early evening yesterday (August 7th at 4:30ish) I got a call on my cell phone. I was at work, and didn't recognize the number, so didn't answer. I was left a message saying that they saw he was scheduled to stay (starting Sunday, September 10th), and there was "some stuff we want to go over" and I should call back at my earliest convenience. I called back around 11 am on Friday (they were already closed by the time I got home from work, and I had some work-related things I had to handle this morning. Also, nothing about the message I was left suggested the call was urgent.) I called, and was eventually put on the phone with the person who called me Thursday evening, who proceeded to tell me that, based on his age and the fact that he was on meds, he was no longer eligible to stay at Best Friends, due to policy changes since the people in charge had changed. I'm not sure if new people were hired with the existing company, or if someone bought them out, but regardless, the first I was hearing of a change in policy that directly affected me, was 2 1/2 days prior to when I planned to board him at the facility. I asked when the policy was changed, and was told it was "probably a couple of weeks ago." I asked why no one was informed, and they said they were handling it on a "case by case basis." In the off chance you're unable to read between the lines that means standard practice is to notify people as they realize they have a reservation that can no longer be accommodated, which only populates in their system (according to the person I talked to) near the start of the week when your pet will be staying. This leaves me with no one to care for my cat, on 2 1/2 days notice (even if I had answered the phone at work, it would have been barely 3 days, and certainly not enough time to make other arrangements). No veterinarian will board him if he isn't already a patient, and as I already mentioned, the facility where he's currently a patient doesn't do boarding. So it would mean getting him in and evaluated as a new patient, and also a boarding reservation in 2 1/2 days. We have a cat sitter coming for our two other cats. She has agreed to stop tomorrow so I can teach her how to administer meds to the third cat, that will now have to stay home. But the cat she will be treating doesn't like strangers, so he may very well be without the meds he needs twice a day every day that we are gone. Which could be harmful. I'm on the fence about whether or not to cancel my non-refundable $800 plane ticket and just stay at home with him, since I am the one who typically gives him meds. Regardless of what happens with me and my cat in the end, I felt an obligation to warn people about these practices. What was once a great facility seems to have sold out to corporate greed. They will not take your pet if they are old or on meds (even though Google still lists them as a facility that will do so), despite making you sign a waiver annually (whether you use their services or not) releasing them from any liability relating to your pet. They may still be a great option for doggy day care, and I don't know if this change in policy affected all animals, but I can only assume it does. I would think twice before boarding your animals here if they need anything beyond a place to sleep while you are away (which could happen at home with a cat sitter for a fraction of the price). read more

I normally do not leave a review, however, I am making an exception this time because my thoughts about this place we're confirmed a phone call this last week Best Friends is always a one-way street never in the customers favor. On calls are hard to reach staff. The up charge quickly if your dog stays too long after the grooming appointment. They are expensive. And there is no concession for their customers. I received a call two weeks ago telling me that they no longer wanted to care for my small dog because he was too old to groom anymore. I'm not sure what that means and we're not impressed every years of going there it would tell me something like this We decided to buy ourown clippers for $40 and groom our dog ourselves. Our dog was calm and very easy to trim. The process took us less than 30 minutes and the results were equal to Best Friends. It is comforting to know that I plan to save almost $1000 a year grooming my dog on my own. I had a new foster dog and she was really shut down. I had an unexpected business trip and needed a safe place that I could board her for three days. And Best Friends came thru. I called and took a tour. Marie showed me around and there were some dogs just lounging around as happy as could be. I told Marie my situation, my new foster dog Dottie, was still quite shy and shutdown and I wasn't sure how she would do. So Marie said they had some kennels in a quiet area for those dogs that might need that extra comfort. So I booked Dottie for a few days, even got her a nice bath. Overall she did pretty good. She's made progress and building more confidence, and when she's ready I plan to do some day camp stays so she can socialize with the other dogs. But overall very happy with Best Friends Pet Hotel, they really helped take care of my Dottie and made sure she was taken care of. read more

After trying many doggie daycares for my 80-lb bully, we found Best Friends! Our dog is a good girl but she doesn't do well thrown into a big play group with 15-20 other dogs. Best Friends does a great job of personality matching her into smaller play groups and she's always super excited to go to daycare. It's been a life saver for us. I also feel the need to address the recent review about "sketchy" parking lot activities-- that was my big tinted Chevy Tahoe, I'm pregnant and our 2-year-old was with us so maybe they heard the Bluey sound track when Julie stepped out to speak to us because she knows our car. My younger dog Benny also loves daycare here, but he's definitely more easygoing than my big princess. It's a relief to bring home happy, tired dogs from a place I trust. read more

As a Captain and a Military Police Officer in the United States Army - I am very skeptical about who to trust when it comes to the care and treatment of my pets. But I wish I lived out in Sacramento, because they were absolutely wonderful with my Zara. I have no idea how this place only has 3 stars. Best Friends Pet Hotel has been nothing short of amazing and incredible. Josh and Julie have been absolutely fabulous. I recently rescued a Belgian Malinois named Zara, who has some fearful tendencies and leash reactivity towards other dogs. Despite her quirks, Josh and Julie have been the perfect caretakers for her. They have been actively communicating with me and have been sending me updates on how Zara is doing. I see a lot of people have mentioned that the staff was rude, but I never felt as though any hostility or rudeness were thrown my way. Julie was very enthusiastic and bubbly, and Josh was very informative, nurturing and kind. Honestly - the two deserve a promotion to a higher level. They were extremely accommodating to Zara's needs and showed her kindness and compassion. They were truly amazing with her. They even worked with the transport company to come in SUPER early to ensure a safe handoff of Zara before she left for the airport. I absolutely recommend! read more

We have taken our various dogs to Best Friends for 15+ years for grooming, dog daycare and boarding and were extremely impressed and happy with the care our dogs received and the friendly, honest staff. Management underwent changes approximately 2018/2019. None of the former excellent employees are there. The current manager comes off as an extremely rude, ignorant, shrill woman, who does not appear to have an affinity toward animals. She also constantly attempts to push her friends dog training busines Best Friends is severely understaffed and seems unable to have the time to sufficiently care for dogs ( especially large ones) Two days ago, when I pulled up; one of the three current employees was either having a break or loitering in parking lot with several of what seemed to be very "sketchy " people in a van with doors open, music going, and smoking. Not a professional look. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this facility unless management and staffing changes occur, even though it is located close to our home and has very nice facilities . read more

The staff here lack people and dog skills. We contacted Best Friends because we needed to board our 18-month Border Collie for 5 days while we traveled for our sons college graduation. She's never been boarded before, and we knew she'd likely be nervous. The initial call was all business. Nothing friendly at all from the guy on the phone. We figured whatever. He's probably the scheduler or clerical. We scheduled the trial 4 hrs and sent over her records. The day came, and my hubby took our girl to the establishment. She did not want to go with the young girl and immediately started to resist and coward down. The young girl took her back but immediately came back and said "yah this isn't going to work." she didn't even spend 2 minutes with my dog, and her only explanation was,"She's too afraid, and she's cowarding in the corner. " We had already explained this would be her 1st time away from us and that she'd likely be afraid at first. Wouldn't they already know this about dogs? Isn't that why the trial is supposed to be 4 hours? I feel they could have given her longer to calm down and acclimate. We would never consider leaving her with anyone who lacked skills to work with her, so my husband didn't argue any points. He just took our girl and left as quickly as he could get her out of there. My husband said they were not nice at all. I think if your dog is easy and doesn't require much actual time or work, they are probably fine, but they definitely don't care about helping you or your dog feel safe and comfortable there. We met with a different place the next day, and our girl was interacting and walking with the lady after just a few minutes because this lady actually cared and had skills to help her. read more

This is a follow up review from Facebook since my review was taken down, On November 16, we took our 2 dogs to be groomed, one was a 10 year old Rottweiler and a one year Frenchie, the young girl was struggling a bit with the Rottie my husband offered to help her but she refused his help, our Rottie is very mellow and one of the nicest animals you will ever meet. When we picked them up the Frenchie was fine however the Rottie was so sick, it took him at least 3 days to recover it's almost like he was given a tranquilizer, no energy no appetite, it was so sad we will never take our pets to this establishment ever again. Best Friends grooming does not deserve any stars however you can't leave a review if you don't click on at least one. I hope this helps when you are looking for a groomer for your fur babies! read more

Absolutely do not take your pet here. Awful staff, extremely rude. We boarded our 1 year old Goldendoodle for about a week while I was in the hospital because our normal boarding facility was full since it was last minute and a holiday week. My dog was absolutely traumatized being there and was injured when we picked him up. He had several injuries when we picked him up including puncture wounds to the back of his head. The staff made up two completely different stories regarding the injuries and neither were reasonable. Also, he was picked up with a coat full of urine and dried feces on all of his paws. He lost 9 pounds in 6 days and it took him about a week to recover behavior wise and return to his normal happy self. Very heartbreaking. read more

Keep in mind if Julie doesn't like your dog or you don't go to the person she recommends to train your dog it's a whole different picture. She sure is good with her fake personality. So during the New Year's break we needed to find a place for our dog Maya to stay at. She has stayed there before and always seem to get in last minute. I am not here to bash anyone or be mean, but the last visit that made us feel very uncomfortable. When I came in to pick her up I asked how did Maya do and I was in a good mood, trying to be friendly. Bed side manner not the best and not really inviting at all. The girl at the front goes she did ok, we had some problems with her. She is too active, hyper and wants to play all the time and we had a hard time finding other dogs for her to play with. The other lady who got the dog looked all angry and her facial expressions said a thousand words, like don't bring your dog back her ever again. She's a puppy what do you expect, she's a Rotty and just turned 1 years old and loves people and loves other dogs and wants to play constantly, sorry! I didn't even get a thank you for the business and we can't wait to see you again, nothing. On top of it the place looks kinda dirty and outdated, with covid going on she didn't even wear a mask. So many people are getting Covid and it is scary out there. Anyways, overall I was very disappointed and would not send Maya back there again. I would only go there if you can't find another place last minute. I just felt like my business was not appreciated and could care less if we bring her back or not, which is sad. I would work on your customer service and find a way to work through some tough dogs regardless of what is going on. I am sorry that Maya our puppy was too active and the geriatric dogs didn't like her, not our fault. I would give this place a 0 star if I could. My kids and I boarded our dogs here for 6 days while we were on vacation. I was told that our dogs would be taken care of very well.... and they were not. I have a great Dane and an English bulldog. My english bulldog is a little high maintenance... but they said it would be fine. My english bulldog has only one and the other eye has 2 different types of eye drops that need to be put in her eyes. I gave the detailed, explicit instructions, the eye drops, and a microfiber towel to clean her eyes daily. They said that will be fine and that they will do it. I got a call halfway through my vacation letting me know my dog had diarrhea, which was most likely a result of stress. I asked if they want me to have someone come get my dog for the remainder of the stay... they said no, she is okay. I came to get my dogs last sunday 2/27/22 and noticed my dogs smelt, looked skinny, and my bulldog could not see out of her eye. I brough my bulldog home and she ran into multiple things and could not see. She also refused to eat... which she NEVER DOES. she LOVES food. I looked at her eye with a flashlight and saw that it had green goop all over it. The goop was crusty all over her face and it covered her eye and eyelid. I then noticed that her cornea was sooo murky and her eyes were so swollen and red!!! They said that they put her eye drops in but I know they did not. One of her eye drops is to prevent the swelling and redness due to dry eye and overproduction of goop. They did not do her eye drops or clean her eyes. I also noticed that my bulldog has crusty poop all over her butt and backside!! DISGUSTING!!! She also reeked of urine... and she had really bad dry skin! I took my dog to the vet the next morning. The vet said she cannot see out of her only eye and that her cornea is so murky she can barely even see when she checked her out. She also said that she has an eye infection from the lack of eye drops . I also have a great dane who stayed with my bulldog at the hotel. When I picked him up he looked so skinny. I do not think they fed my dogs while they were there. I sent them with a bag that should have been empty when I picked them up since I measured out their food prior to dropping them off. The bag was half full.... WTF!!!!! I am appalled at the way my dogs were treated. I now have to take my bulldog to the vet once a week to get her eye checked to ensure it is healing. I cannot get ahold of anyone at corporate at all. Their site manager said she would send my number over but I have not heard back... I am so PISSED!!!!! DO NOT SEND YOUR DOG THERE!!! THEY ARE NEGLECTFUL!!!! STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!! read more

A few years ago I wrote a bad review about this place. I am now with regret for doing so. I guess being a first time user of a kennel my expectation were too high? Anyway, I've used them a few times since then and I'm very happy with their service. I have an English Springer Spaniel with anxiety, fear aggression and anti social issues. Because of this, no where else will take her but Best Friend's Pet Hotel does! My girl has a very strange demeanor but they treat her well, tell me she is a sweetheart (at least she is when I'm not around) lol. Canceled on us the day we were leaving on a trip because they assumed my dog was too sick to watch because she got stitches 3 weeks prior. She had them removed and was going to dog parks, cleared by vets, wasn't on any meds, and she was totally normal but they just simply canceled on us without taking time to hear the reality of the situation or see her. read more

They discriminate against bully breeds. My dog loves all people and all dogs and is very friendly. I brought her for an assessment and 1/2 day where instead of playing with other dogs she was locked in a kennel with them claiming she didn't play well with the other dogs. I take her to dog parks with no issues. Luckily she is playing with her doggy friends to her heart's content at Buster's Pet Resort. We had the worst experience with this place. Unfortunately we had to board our dog for 3 weeks. Maybe when the dog is boarded for a couple days, the mistreatment is not so apparent but we picked up our pup who had 2 WOUNDS, had LOST 8 lbs over the course of staying here and was lethargic. We had to take her to the vet the next day. Her wounds were treated and she was prescribed antibiotics. I came to speak with them in person as they didn't pick up their phone. I asked their manager if our dog had refused eating but she said she ate all of her food.. One of the wounds was on her ear which looked like an abscess that had exploded. She had a huge blob of caked blood. How did these caretakers not noticed this?? Maybe it is because they don't take them out of their prison like cells.. The other wound they called a "happy tail". Let me tell you, there is nothing happy about this place. I still don't understand exactly how her tail was wounded. I was questioning the size of these kennels since my dog supposedly repeatedly voluntarily wagged her tail against the walls while her tail kept bleeding (2 weeks later it's still not healed). So the manager decided to "put my mind at ease" and showed me the kennels. I was horrified at the environment I observed. The place wreaks of urine as though the dogs pee inside the kennels. It then made sense why my dog and her toy stunk like pee. The kennel itself, while it was long, it was pretty narrow. It is a very stressful disgusting environment. Dogs are continuously barking and no wonder animals would come out depressed from here. When I walked in, there was not a single dog outside in their play areas.. They also lost our items. They didn't give us back our food bowl, food container and one of the toys. They promised they'd reimburse us but I never heard back from them. We also dropped off 4 lbs of treats for her about a week before we picked her up. We got 1 bone back. How did my dog eat that many treats in 8 days and still lost 8 lbs of weight is puzzling! This place has worse conditions than a struggling animal shelter. Get on the Rover app, see if your local pet hospitals do boarding but don't come here! read more

Updating after our last visit. Customer communication has never been their strong suit, but I was willing to overlook it because our dogs were well-groomed and happy and the gentleman at the front desk was always friendly. The last time I took our dog in for grooming, they asked what time I wanted to pick her up. I gave them a time, and came back at that time. The guy at the front desk seemed surprised when I arrived and went to check on her. (This was not the friendly man I remember from before.) He told me the groomer was drying her and it would be a few minutes. I waited for a total of 30 minutes. At one point, I asked the guy at the desk what was going on. He said he would go check again and proceeded to just leave me there. Another employee came in, asked if I had been helped, and when I explained how long I was waiting, she actually helped me. Turned out, my dog wasn't ready when I arrived. The groomer was still in the middle of giving her a haircut. I ended up going home with a wet, partially groomed dog because I was so angry and just wanted to get out of there. (Side note: a Cocker Spaniel with a groomed body and ungroomed head is hilariously adorable.) Now, the manager did apologize and offer to comp our next grooming, but honestly, I'm done. The lying and wait time was ridiculous and insulting. We're finding a new groomer. read more
