Whenever I discuss Knapp with my friends, it inevitably leads to the same summary, "Any wine tour goes downhill at Knapp!" At face value, this summary sounds like something bad, but it's quite the contrary! Knapp always leads to good times, but you will only remember some of them. I have been on 30+ wine tours around the Finger Lakes. Of them, about 12-15 were around Cayuga Lake and we stopped at Knapp every single time. Sometimes that stop was first, sometimes that stop was 7th. However, no matter when the stop, after we visit Knapp, our memory always gets hazy. Since this always happened on WINE tours, you would think that this was because Knapp makes high alcohol content jug wine... but.... Knapp actually makes some of the best wine on Cayuga. In particular, they have a nice Riesling and are experimenting with some interesting varietals such as Sangiovese. What actually causes this hazy memory is Knapp's production of delicious cordials!!! They make one heck of a Limoncello and Grappa. Let me tell you, these drinks pack quite the punch! read more

Jon B. is right....things to seem to get hazy after a visit to Knapp Winery. For us it was this nice grandfatherly gentleman who winked and joked his way through our tasting. What a character! Whatever you're paying him I hope it's good because this guy was classic. Example #1 of things getting hazy...I don't even remember the tasting guy's name, but I'd know that wink if I saw it again. Ok winos here's the low down... -Rieslings here (and this region in general are where it's at yo!) At Knapp they tended to be on the drier side, but their semi-dry was actually still on the sweeter side. -Kat Knapp is made from the Catabwa grape which is also a featured grape of the area. It was grapey, but more complex than your standard Concord grape -Brandies and Cordials are a delight for your taste buds and definitely contribute to the haze of your brain -Limoncello don't leave without trying this one I thought the prices for wines were very reasonable and the gift shop actually had some unique items. There is a restaurant adjacent to the winery and my parents had a fabulous dinner there recently. It's cute with it's vineyard decor. Cat lovers and non-cat lovers alike will enjoy the comings and goings of the resident cat....what was his name again? read more

We visited this lovely restaurant this past Saturday for lunch! Weather was so nice we sat outdoors on the patio! We love this place and it has only gotten better with their new young executive chef Dan McNabb! We started out with a nice light but flavorful Sangiovese red wine. We ordered the Chevre Cheesecake appetizer. It was presented on a large wooden board that had two slices of the cheesecake in whole wheat crust, medjul dates, dried cranberries, grapes, crispy lavash cracker, slices of spiced apple and this outstanding bacon jam!! Oh my out of this world!! They should jar that jam and sell!!!! We also tried a cup of the chefs choice of mushroom merlot soup!! Outstanding as well! Next on the list was our sandwiches. I ordered a grilled sourdough three cheese sandwich and my husband ordered The Cuban sandwich! I must say I liked mine better and so did my husband. The Cuban wasn't as flavorful as the grilled cheese. The grilled cheese had two kinds of cheddar and smoked Gouda and had that fabulous bacon jam on it!!! Too full for dessert and brought half of our lunch home. So happy we decided to stop on our way to Ithaca!! You must stop too and you'll wonder why this place hasn't gotten more press for sure! Good wine. Great food. The staff was excellent. And therefore, you will not be disappointed - but make sure you sit outside. Everything on the menu looked delicious. I had the prime rib sandwich - which I have eaten various versions of throughout the country, and this was as yummy as it gets. Knapp's has a queit atmosphere but beautiful scenery. If you go for the wine, try the red port with a dash of brandy. And ask for Matt if you do a wine tasting (he's been there for near 13yrs) - and he treated this American like a king! read more

First I want to any to say the landscape is perfect. We sat out side on their patio and it was a nice day! The service was so bad they had 2 only 2 waitresses for inside and out and they were busy. My meal was tasteless ..,I got the shrimp scampi and there was not a trace of garlic and it had so much water on the bottom of my bowl. This is why I feel only 1 star is warranted. I loved this place! It's a small winery amongst hundreds of others along the Finger Lakes. While the decor is at best modest for a winery, the selection and experience were great. $3 gets a wine tasting of pick-your-own from a list of about 30 ranging moderns whites to reds to spirits and even ice wine. The tastings were generous and the staff, while running several tastings at once, were personable and friend (we had Carol who was very nice). It's one of the few Cayuga Lake wineries that does not have a view of the lake though had gold medals for several of its wines. We walked with two bottles of their Reisling and a Vignoles. They also had lemoncello and concord wines which were delicious. Their selection overall was excellent! They have wine discounts if you purchase a certain amount of bottles: 3-5 bottles is 5% then 10% and 15% as you go up. read more

The staff was very rude. Came here to celebrate my birthday and they barely gave us enough tastings for one sip. After the tasting when we wanted to walk around the vineyard and take pictures, the staff had said "usually after the tasting you leave right away" in a nasty tone. We had drove an hour and a half to come to this winery and for them to be rude and unenjoyable, it was very disappointing. I do not recommend this place while there are many other great places with much friendly staff. Do not go. read more

Visiting the Finger Lakes for the first time, Knapp was recommended as a stop we might enjoy. Not so much. The server wasn't very friendly and it almost seemed as if she was reading a script. The wines we tried were ok but nothing to write home about. How can you not like a place like Knapp Winery? It's between Cayuga and Seneca Lakes, so no lake views, but they make up for it with a charming (and quite rustic) tasting room, a restaurant on the premises (separate from the winery, unlike Anyela's), terrific prices, a wide assortment of wines (from dry dry to sweet and sugary) and not one but two winery cats - "Sadie" (brown tabby) and "MamaCat" (calico). MamaCat graces the label of a semi-sweet table wine called "Curiosity." I'm not big on semi-sweet wines but as a cat guy, I had to buy a bottle. They have fun with the "Knapp and cat" connection for their names - "KatKnapp" (a sweet Niagara wine), Superstition (with a black cat on the label - a sweet Concord wine). The usual Finger Lakes suspects are here too - and they (like other wineries in the area) use a handy "dry to sweet" scale on their labels, which helps in the unpredictable world of Riesling. They also have several fruit wines that are not as sweet as they could have been: Peach, strawberry, black cherry, lemon. Lemon.....proof you can make wine out of any fruit. This place even has a port and a few sparkling options. You'll discover that the sweet wines are the ones with the "fun names and labels" (Fulkerson is another spot we discovered that reserves its fun names for its sweet wines. Swedish Hill is another - "Jack Ass Red"). This is a multi-purpose winery, one of the busiest in the region, but similar to Swedish Hill and Atwater in its unpretentiousness. I'll be back. read more

This was our first, and favorite, stop during our wine tasting day along Seneca Lake. Tastings run $5 for six tastings, but you get a seventh (whatever their wine of the month is) for free. The man pouring our tastings was really friendly and didn't mind throwing in a couple extra tastings so we could compare various things. The dry Riesling was really nice, and I also enjoyed the Rosé. We ended our tasting with a sample of their cucumber vodka with spicy Bloody Mary mix - delicious! read more

We made reservations for Knapp Winery for Saturday 6-27-20 and when we arrived with our DD, the girl instructed that the DD could not come in the tasting room with us and he needed to go outside. This lead to a very poor experience, we will never go back again, and I will be sure to inform other friends of this. The winery made no effort to correct this issue while other wineries we attended provided the DD water or juice to drink. read more

I did the Knapp Winery Signature Experience, and it was truly an incredible time. Completed secluded, my girlfriend and I sat out under a beautiful tree in their vineyard overlooking their rows of plants and Cayuga Lake. There were even potted flowers there for an extra touch. We were on vacation on Cayuga Lake camping. For my wife's birthday I took her to Knapp Winery first for a wine tasting. She is a red wine drinker and loved all the red wines. They serve the wine with popcorn and checky monkey sauce and cubes of cheese. Tasting took about 45 minutes. Our server knowledge of the wines was amazing and she could tell us what to pair each wine with. it was very enjoyable. After wine tasting I took her to dinner at the restaurant next door to the tasting facility. The place is beautiful, we sat inside but had a great view of the outdoor patio and vineyard. The food was outstanding, my compliments to the chef. Tomahawk pork chop with goat cheese and mushrooms was so favorful and juicy, cooked perfectly with potatoes and asparagus. My wife had the chicken mailinese which she enjoyed. We both had left overs and could not fit desert. We look forward to another visit soon! read more

I'm more of a red fan so this winery wasn't my favorite. But the tasting was fun and the space is nice. We ate lunch at the restaurant. The food was good but could use a little more kick. Had a ranchero wrap and the chicken was cooked very well but there wasn't a ton of flavor. Not bad just needed something a bit more. The waitstaff was nice and the prices aren't bad. read more

Our meals were 5 star.... I had the Autumn Pierogi and it was clearly homemade and outstanding! The fresh cut fries were also fantastic.... but the service was horrible. There was a total of three tables including us... all two tops. We saw our server twice and had to wait way too long for our check after we finished eating. No one checked to see if our meals were okay or if we needed more drinks. Disappointing, because the food was great. read more

It's so easy to get drunk here! For $2 the guys will let you taste any and all of their 30+ wines and brandies. Their semi-sweet and sweet white wines are a little light tasting with a hint of syrup flavor, so I wouldn't go with those. Doesn't help that they describe their wine as "Welch's grape juice" and it turns out to be accurate. I didn't try any of the dry wines, kind of got tired of it after a whole day's worth of rieseling. The brandy was a very good change of pace at 80 proof. We walked off with two bottles of the grappa. The tasting room itself is great, warm colors, friendly staff and they have a very cute, very chubby cat (who's picture is on the "curiousity" labeled wine). But ultimately I'm not sure that I'd come back here; nothing unique in the wine offerings. read more

I normally do not do this, but this 1 star review is justified. I called ahead and made a reservation for a party of 6, they said no problem. After an hour drive, we arrive and check in for our reservation. I said we have a party of 6, however, only 5 of us were doing a tasting because one of us is pregnant. We were informed that only the 5 of us could sit together for the tasting, and our friend who was pregnant would not be allowed to be with our party and would have to stand behind us because she wasn't drinking. This is absolutely ridiculous. First of all, why was I not informed of this when I called and made the reservation? Secondly, why on earth would you make a pregnant woman stand in a separate location from the rest of her party just because she is unable to drink? The man at the host station was extremely rude and would not make any exceptions for this. He truly could not have cared less even after I explained that I made a reservation for 6 people! Clearly this place only cares about making money. There are so many wineries in this area that truly care about their customers, however, this is simply not one of them! Wonderful winery. I work at another local winery and on my day off I decided to try some of the wineries our customers rave about. Knapp has won me over. First class customer service by the two people we met. We were met at the door by the little black kitten and Mama Cat laid right on the table next to us while we tasted. I love cats and they are so well behaved. The wines were amazing. Ended up purchasing the Port and Brandy and Dry Reisling 2011. Keep up the fabulous customer service!!!! What a wonderful experience. My wife and I wanted to dine outside for our anniversary and chose Knapp. We are so happy we did. I had the crab and shrimp cake and my wife had the grilled portobello mushroom. We decided on a bottle of the Knapp Dry Rose, which was perfect. The vine covered patio was charming and the service was good. We were impressed with the presentation, the taste and quality of the meal and the value.
