Kiyomi is difficult to rate. It's a 4 star for a Japanese restaurant in a small town. It's a 3 star when you compare it to a traditional Japanese place. So...for my experience...I give it 3 stars. The facility is nicely put together for a lake restaurant. The tables and chairs are comfortable. The decor is simple...not like you'd expect for a traditional Japanese restaurant. The place is clean. The wait staff was attentive though not very friendly. They just seemed to execute the meal...which they did with a decent speed. We started with the soup and salad that comes with the meal - good value! Soup is soup. The salad dressing didn't have much zing to the taste to make it memorable. We also had the Gyoza and fried vegetables. The Gyoza was good but perhaps over crisped. The fried vegetables were nice. The tempura was just right. The dipping sauce was nothing special. For dinner we had the chicken and New York strip hibachi and a chicken Benito box. The meals really lacked taste. No special taste, flavor or experience. Nothing was done poorly....it's just that nothing was memorable. I would recommend trying this place if you are looking for an alternative meal choice while at the lake. read more

We stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon, sometime around 1:00. We were told we could sit where we wanted and then a little boy brought us our menus. Then another woman(older who didn't speak English came to the table I think to get drunk orders but I asked her a question about the menu and she ran off to the back), then another woman (younger who speaks English) came and took our drink order (I think it's her and her husband that own this place). She answered any questions I had then took out order. One other family was there (also from Warsaw) and I think they were the reason it took us about 20 minutes or more to get our food (they ordered a huge "sushi boat that contains 5 or 6 different types of rolls-of your choosing, and the man in the back was the only one doing the sushi and cooking.) I ordered the Crab Rangoon and it came with 6 of them. Very good, little on the sweet side. I also ordered the bento box with teriaki beef and shrimp and veg tempura(the veggies were mushroom, sweet potatoe slice, broccoli and zucchini I think) and was pleasantly surprised at how tender the beef was- it was a good cut of meat, no fat or grizzle, and came on a bed of steamed vegetables. Their teriyaki sauce is homemade, not the real bold flavor you get from a bottle so it didn't overpower your taste buds. My meal also came with a salad with a delicious creamy ginger dressing and is probably also homemade. It also came with a lovely sweet orange segment. Husband got the Chicken Fried Rice and he said it was definitely better than the rice you get at the Japanese place here in Warsaw. I had leftovers that gave me two more meals even! This is definitely family owned and worth the trip to Syracuse to support. (Wish they would move it here to Warsaw!) read more

We didn't think we'd find good sushi in a small Indiana town but we did. We had seaweed salad, sashimi and a few rolls and it was all delicious!! Kiyomi, a little Japanese restaurant situated right on 13 in Syracuse. Easy, conveinant location to get to, and easy parking. I have been to Kiyomi about 5 times at the time of writing. For being in small town Syracuse, it's a solid choice if you are looking for sushi, or hibachi in a homey atmosphere. The owner is very friendly. She is always running about making sure everyone is taken care of. The staff is so so, not great service but not terrible. They do their job. The place is clean and the prices are good. The food, yum! From the sushi to the chicken, or steak hibachi the taste and flavors are very good. The ramen is very good and full of vegetables. It is very spicy so if you don't like spicy foods, ask for half spicy or not at all. I usually get an avocado roll and a sweet potato roll. They are better than I have had at other local restaurants. They taste very fresh. I also get the ramen with only chicken. You can get shrimp in it too. My husband gets the chicken hibachi. The sauce is flavorful and the chicken is tasty. It comes with salad and soup. It also comes with fried rice, and vegetables. All which have been superb each time he has eaten at Kiyomi. The others in our party got the hibachi New York strip steak. SO GOOD and they have cooked them right each time. One gets it cooked medium rare while the other prefers a well done steak. These also come with fried rice and vegetables. In all the food is good. The pricing is good. If you are wanting hibachi or sushi, and in the Syracuse area stop in for lunch or dinner. It is worth your time! read more

New Japanese restaurant in Syracuse. Stopped in for lunch and was very impressed. Nice quiet atmosphere. The sushi bar is a nice touch. It's really neat to watch the chef making sushi. The staff was very courteous and knowledgable. They were very prompt in seating us. I had the sushi and sashimi lunch. The presentation was fantastic. Everything was very fresh. Absolutely wonderful, not what you would expect to find in Syracuse. (Note, the picture I attached is after I already had a couple bites. My excitement got the better of me and I almost forgot to take a picture). My friend had the beef teriyaki and California roll bento box. He was very happy with it. Again great quality and very fresh. The miso soup was very good. Definitely worth a try and I will be returning. Second time in here and I was not nearly as impressed. The sushi was great but the sashimi had been frozen. The sashimi was not nearly as good as the first time in and was still frozen in the middle. I guess I should have seen it coming. I can't believe this little restaurant has such an authentic Japanese menu for Syracuse! What a wonderful surprise and quite an accomplishment. Must be really challenging to run the menu! We ordered three rolls, some hot tea, and fried rice. The rolls were among the best you can get this far from an ocean. The food tasted excellent and the presentation of the sushi was a work of art. They don't serve alcohol but that is not a deal breaker for me considering how good the food, service, & atmosphere is here. I got gyoza (dumplings), avocado roll, and the hibachi chicken. Generous portions and the hibachi chicken dinner came with rice (choice of white or fried), miso soup, and a salad (dressing was excellent). They are short handed because of lack of labor force in the area. However, the food and service was still Excellent. The fish is fresh and delicious. The seaweed wraps are great here, no need for soy paper, because they don't taste like the Elkhart river like those at other establishments may. I had the spicy Maki Combo and my wife had the Dynamite roll...both were perfect. Beer selection is Good and affordable. I have not tried the Saki, but they have a decent list of those available.
