Boathouse Restaurant (Winona Lake) - climate controlled patio dinning with relaxing lake front…read moreviews I'm always interested in dinning & relaxing at a restaurant with good lake front views. The Boathouse Restaurant in Winona Lake has good food and a nice view of...Winona Lake. You can find them about 45 minutes west (driving highway 30) of Fort Wayne near Grace College (see map). The restaurant is set right on the lake. It is also nestled by some cute shops (The Village at Winona) for pre or post dinner browsing. The Boathouse Restaurant's lake views come in a covered patio (see picture). You are right on the lake. All diners can see the water from their table. The patio is enclosed much like a four season room. You can catch the breeze off the water when the windows are open. Or you can shut the windows and pull the shades if the temperature and sun light isn't to your liking. I'm sure this would still be a great view in the cooler fall and spring seasons. The Boathouse is a large restaurant. However, I would encourage reservations via their web site. You can reserve the patio, bar or main dinning areas. The facility is nicely decorated in that boat theme. Lots of attractive hardwoods and lake colors. We found the restaurant to be very comfortable and relaxing. The menu is very large - something for everyone (see menus). Chicken, steak, pasta, salads, wraps, bowls, burgers, seafood - they have it. Prices are reasonable (steak $30+, chicken $23+, burgers $16+). We have been here a couple times. Each time the food was delicious and the service was what you would expect. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Table Bread: multigrain bread, served warm and soft, easily pulled apart; nice soft creamy butter accompaniment -Side Salad: simple salad, smaller in size; very fresh with a few side veggies (cucumbers, tomatoes, onion and shredded Parmesan cheese; crunchy croutons; homemade 1000 Island dressing was thick with a smooth taste -Burrito Bowl: my wife loved the fresh lettuce and peppers; chicken was nicely grilled, moist and slightly seasoned; rice was perfectly cooked with a firm consistency -Tenderloin (special menu item): outstanding! Very moist and tender, slightly thicker steak; thin batter with a slight crisp and hint of oil; grilled onions were a nice but unusual add; bun was slightly grilled, buttered and soft -Macaroni salad: mayo base that tended to be a bit heavy; nicely cooked noodles; added small pieces of celery, onion and green pepper; nice adder to the sandwich If you like lake views and relaxing dinning...make the drive to the Boathouse Restaurant. Also make sure you get there before 6p so you can enjoy the shopping village that is near the restaurant. And...take a long walk down the channel to see the big lake.

Fantastic place on the lake. The view is nice, but the food is even better. Generous portions, too…read more Salmon Linguine - $26 - Salmon, asparagus, and feta cheese with linguine in a cream sauce. Every bit of this was tasty and cooked to perfection. 5/5 stars. Pasta Diablo - $23 - Shrimp, scallops, and clams with linguine in a spicy cajun tomato sauce. This had really good flavor. It's a bit spicy, and the heat will catch up to you. 5/5 stars. Chocolate Cake - $11 - There's a choice between one or two scoops of ice cream, and it costs a dollar more for the second scoop. Even if there wasn't two of us, you need two scoops to go with the cake, because it's a good portion. It's a pretty decent cake. 5/5 stars. Service was good. Ambiance is nice. Great place to get a good meal and to hang out by the lake.

Big Eyed Fish on Wells Street - when you have a craving for Fish & Stroh style fish and tarter…read moresauce Yes, I know that I could go to Stroh to get this old time flavor. However, Big Eyed Fish is pretty good fish in its own right, local...and flavored like the taste I remember from the past. We visited the Big Eyed Fish location on Well's street. They have an express shop located on Huegenard Road and another dine in location at Leo Crossing. This location has been in service since 2003. It has a nice diner feel with super friendly service. You can find parking on the street or in the lot behind the store. The inside is rather large and works well for parties up to about 8 diners. There is a small bar and TV's if that is your thing. They also have a big and varied menu including breakfast items. Here is a run down of the food items: -Fried Fish: the white fish fillet is thin and fried with a thin breading. The fish is moist and tender. It will flake apart with a fork or by hand. The breading has a slight amount of seasoning and isn't very oily to taste. It has a taste similar to the Fish & Stroh style if you are familiar with that. The fillets are not very filling. For an extra $3...I went with the all you can eat option. Delicious fish! -Tarter Sauce: I love tarter sauce. In fact I might order fish to go with my tarter sauce - lol. This mayo based sauce is reasonably thick, somewhat sweet and has a hint of pickle flavoring. It's creamy and makes a perfect complement to the fried fish flavor. -Baked Beans: this side really surprised me. The bean is small and contained hamburger pieces. The sauce had a slight BBQ flavor but not enough to classify it as a BBQ baked bean dish. The meat flavor was a nice add to the smooth tomato spiced sauce. Delicious!! -Cole Slaw: I kind of use KFC as the standard for Cole Slaw. This is very similar. The slaw pieces are cut very small with only one kind of slaw. Seemingly no additives - just slaw. The sauce is mayo based, a bit more sweet along with a hint of vinegar. I loved this side too! -Hush Puppies: these balls are pretty small in diameter. The inside is very modista and sweet with that southern style corn bread taste. The outside is thicker, a bit oily to taste and has a mild corn bread taste/texture. These are probably some of the best hush puppies I've had in my southern raised life.

Food is always amazing…read more The service is very good even when they are busy they still make sure everyone is taken care of. Their portions are well worth the price. The sushi rolls are not tiny like you see at some sushi restaurants and all of the hibachi meals that I have ever gotten here have been more than enough for myself and I usually end up taking some home.

The servings are HUGE! The rolls are double the size of what I'm used to. I had the Kiyomi Roll and…read moreit was really good. The coconut shrimp tasted homemade and the sauce was nice and savory. It's definitely more of a fun and tropical American style roll but delicious! We also got the Kiyomi fried rice. It has a lot of vegetables which was nice. I loved the zucchini and squash. It tasted like really good hibachi. The shrimp had great flavor too and the chicken was tender. My husband had two tuna sushi (nigiri) and thought it was decent. We can't remember the name of the role my husband got, but it had spicy tuna on top. He enjoyed it. We both could only eat about half of our rolls because they were so giant. This is the best restaurant in Syracuse I'd say and I was very pleasantly surprised. I wish I took a picture before eating most of the fried rice but I honestly wasn't expecting everything to be so good!
