I gave it a second chance but that was the last one. All other things aside, most of the sushi just tastes like nothing. Even the rice tastes like just made plain rice instead of sushi rice. The biggest issue this time though was the filler in the rolls. They list the ingredients but don't tell you that they include breadcrumbs, which turns out the be most of the filling. For me, it was just a matter trying to choke down plain rice stuffed with soggy breadcrumbs and no identifiable fish. For my wife, it means intense stomach problems because she ate a piece before she realized there was gluten in them. This was despite us telling the server she could not have gluten multiple times and letting her know all the common stuff in a Japanese restaurant that might contain gluten. She even brought gluten free soy sauce for my wife. Why would they have special gluten free soy sauce if they literally also hide gluten containing ingredients in some of the rolls? Aside from all that, the sushi just isn't good... or really bad, its just a waste of money that will leave you still craving actual sushi. I've had much better sushi from Stracks and that's a LOW bar. read more

I just could not bring myself to think that a place in our little community could be so wonderful - but it is. Our family encouraged us to try Kiyomi and we are glad we did! We had delicious, fresh food including shrimp shumai, dragon roll, and chicken hibachi. The hibachi meals come with the best miso soup I've eaten, and a tasty salad. In terms of atmosphere, there are scenes of Japan on the walls, dark wooden tables, and the option of table or booth. There is Sushi counter at one end of the room, and top 40 music playing. The sushi chef appears to be quite artistic in his creations, and he is fun to watch. We have been regulars at Kiyomi for at least 6 months. We had to drive an hour away just to get decent sushi, and hibachi- now that stumbled across Kiyomi it had satisfied and hit all notes! Amazing food at more than affordable prices. Highly recommend the bento boxes, Philadelphia Roll, and Ramen. Kiyomi in Syracuse - what a nice, TASTY surprise! I am from the Houston area and it is often difficult to find fresh tasting sushi but I definitely found it here! Ordered lunch sashimi, sushi and spicy crab roll combo AND ALL WAS TRULY DELICIOUS - and fresh! I only have one more day in Syracuse and I will dine here again before I leave. Nice atmosphere and service too! Wish my wife had been able to be here. If you don't live real close, it would be worth the drive. I ordered the black dragon roll, spicy tuna roll, and red snapper sashimi. The snapper was definitely fresh, and absolutely delicious. It's hard to find good sashimi in Indiana, but Kiyomi had it! The spicy tuna roll I felt could have been spicier, but it was tasty and had good flavor regardless. The black dragon roll was awesome, I loved the eel sauce on top, and the eel itself was very fresh. I would absolutely recommend Kiyomi for sushi and sashimi, and I will be back soon to try more! I've been going here for years and figured I'd give my honest review. I love the food and environment at kiyomis. I have worked here for a short time in high school, and the restaurant is very clean, and the food is very fresh. Overtime I have gotten people to love this restaurant as much as I do, and have took people who hated sushi to loving sushi because of kiyomis. The owner, Kelly is a hard worker and appreciates, and cares for all customers that come in. I hope that more people can appreciate kiyomis as much as i do, along with my family and friends. This place is a hidden gem in Syracuse! My wife and I love stir fry and sort of like sushi so this was a perfect restaurant to experience both of those! She got the hibachi chicken which includes fried rice, stir fry veggies and chicken, yum yum sauce, ginger sauce, miso soup, and a salad! An absolute surprise in Syracuse! Great service- the owners are very welcoming and took the time to talk to us. Food was excellent- on par with many of the Japanese/sushi places we have been to in Chicago. Any of the hibachi meals are delicious- we recommend the Liter Conqueror for a well rounded sampling. Veggies are always stir fried to perfection- crisp, not salty but seasoned perfectly. Sushi and sashimi is fresh and beautifully prepared. Crab Rangoon and Gyoza for appetizers hit the mark. This place has amazing Japanese food right in Syracuse. My wife and I got the spider roll, the California roll, avocado roll, and cucumber roll. The rolls were expertly presented, fresh, and delicious. The only thing I didn't like is that they don't have alcohol. I am really sure how to review this place, which I visited with a friend for a birthday meal after reading the YELP reviews on a Saturday night. We sat at the sushi counter to see the show and the chef was very skilled and extremely personable. The reviews were right about the food, the salad dressing was just ok, but the Hibachi chicken and Coconut Shrimp Sushi Special were excellent. However, the waiter questioned the Chef about the sushi and told him in front of us that "he made it wrong". Later the waiter told the chef, again in front of us, when he finished a beautiful sushi roll, that "it looked really weird". The chef was holding his tongue, but you could tell that he did not appreciate the criticism. The waiter made us both feel very uncomfortable with his critiques. After the dinner I pulled the owner/manager aside privately and explained what had occurred. The owner/manager exclaimed that "the waiter was drunk", and was not alarmed in any way and chuckled a bit. read more
