Could be better. Cute shop on the surface but they have very few sizes in the long sleeved t shirts and sweaters. Very few mediums. The help is nice but honestly why display tons of clothing if you have no inventory to back it up. The style is definitely more hipster Brooklyn meets country casual with a good selection of jeans. On a chilly night I found a few lovely pieces at this gem of a boutique. Prices aren't cheap but the quality is clearly quite high and they have brands I don't see in LA. Excited to take home a bit of Park Slope with me back to California. Kind staff were helpful and accommodating to me and my young daughter. I love having this store in the neighborhood, although I have been shopping there less and less over the years as their styles don't completely match mine. Jewelry and socks are my go-to's there. I will agree with the other reviewers that the staff is not that friendly -- it's quite a contrast from their "brother-store" Fig where the salesperson (especially this one guy) is very friendly and personable. This beautiful boutique clothing store in the heart of Park Slope is the best in the neighborhood. The staff is wonderful and takes their time offering suggestions and guidance on sizing. Okay, here are my beefs with Kiwi. 1) The clothes are quite beautiful, it's true. But what they don't tell you is that this is a specialty shop. That is, the clothes are designed for skinny women to create the illusion of them having curves. This means that when a woman who actually has curves tries on the clothes, she looks like a Russ Meyer girl, and everyone yells at her that she's all hanging out. Not cool. 2) The staff is NOT friendly. Not helpful either. (See above comment about curvy women and all hanging out.) 3) EXPENSIVE. Shit, EXPENSIVE. 4) It always pains me that for a store that is so EXPENSIVE. Shit, EXPENSIVE as described above, there are always at least three small children rolling all over the floor and swabbing their grimy hands on everything. Very cute store with high-quality, beautifully curated inventory! I can't speak to any lack of friendliness, because I was offered a glass of wine in a coffee cup while shopping here. As far as I'm concerned, that's the height of hospitality. I don't understand the skinny-people-only gripe, because they told me they actually don't carry XS sizes in most items. That was a bummer when it came to a VERY CUTE TOP and a VERY EXPENSIVE COAT I might otherwise have been tempted to purchase, but I'm certainly not going to whine that they don't cater specifically to me. I really want to like this store more than I think I actually do, but that doesn't stop me from going in a fair amount! First the plusses. They have a good selection of clothing, some high quality basics and some unique pieces that really stand out in your wardrobe. It is also not difficult to get assistance. However, I always find the sales people to be a little, I don't know exactly - I guess I just don't always feel comfortable in the store and I don't have that problem in any other stores in the area. It is just a vibe that is not conducive to browsing. Also, they tend to sell out of the middle sizes fairly rapidly. If you are a 25 or a 31 that is no problem but I frequently find that whatever item I want to get they don't have in my size. read more

Kiwi is a small but rather serene and elegant store on 7th Avenue in Park Slope. I always admire the clothes in the window and finally stopped in last weekend. Prices here aren't cheap, but the clothes are high quality. Many of them are wardrobe staples (white blouses, black dresses, jeans, etc.) but with interesting flourishes that make them special or unique. The salesgirls, while not falling all over themselves with friendliness, are pretty helpful and have a good sense of style. read more

This boutique is constantly receiving new, trendy and fashionable inventory and changing up their window displays. It's nice having a boutique that's up-to-date with trends and styles right in the neighborhood. It's a great shop to go to for key, signature and versatile pieces, or if you're in a bind and need something ASAP (I got a black White & Warren dress for a last minute funeral here and I love it). Very small jeans and shoe selection, mostly tops, skirts and dresses and some accessories (hats, sunglasses, jewelry). I disagree with Lucy G's review below - I am no where near a "skinny" girl and have found several dresses and tops here which have fit well and are flattering to my body type. All you need to do is take a moment to weave through the racks and there are plenty of items in several sizes... Yep, it's definitely is on the pricey side. If you have a toddler, you're NOT welcomed in this store. It was clear that the salesperson didn't want any little humans in the store. I've bought a lot of clothing from this store in the past and it was my first time to tag along my 4-yr old toddler with me today. He's extremely calm and laid-back kiddo who always behaves well everywhere I take him. I was checking some tops on the rack and he picked a white top and told me how pretty the top was. As soon as my toddler picked up the top to show it to me, the condescending saleslady yelled at him, "hey! be careful! it's WHITE!!!" as if my toddler poured a gallon of dirty mud into the top. Fyi, my toddler was wearing impeccably clean outfit and well groomed. As soon as I heard her screaming at my boy, I became speechless and just walked right out of the store with him. I will NEVER EVER SHOP AT THIS STORE AGAIN! and if you have little kids, please do NOT shop there unless you're prepared to be yelled at and screamed upon. PERIOD read more

Kiwi is pretty much everything I could want in a clothing store. It has beautiful clothes, and they have tons of things that are flattering not just for the super skinny but also clothes that are especially great for a curvy person, as the previous post mentions (I am a proud member of that demographic too.) The shop owners and staff are incredibly helpful. Some of the best clothes I have purchased at Kiwi have been suggested by one of the owners or employees and are not always things I would think to choose for myself but wind up looking great--just what a somewhat risk-adverse shopper like me needs. I find that while some of the most special items are expensive, often when I am on a budget, I find great items by Michael Stars, Splendida, and other great brands. Consider this as well: when I left my own sweater at the store one day, they emailed me (I'm on their mailing list). I know the owners' kids names.. and they ask after my roommate when I come in without her. Going into Kiwi is also a cozy experience. Just last night, I went in during the Park Slope Snowflake Celebration and was treated to a cup of champagne just as Christmas carolers came into the store. Every neighborhood needs a place like this. read more

yes, the lack of mirrors in the fitting rooms in a problem, especially since they carry lingerie!!! I was in here a few weeks ago and tried a nightie on. the sales girl was very helpful and apologized that there were no mirrors, but she was able to open up a door that leads to their stock room that has a mirror on the back so that I could see myself without having to come out to the sales floor. Another employee was in the stock room with the door wide open on the phone loudly arguing with someone. You could hear every word she was saying and It was really uncomfortable. I told the first sales girl about it when I was paying for my items and she was really embarassed about it and was very apologetic for the other girl. But I still ended up purchasing the nightie anyway, and some other really adorable bra and undie sets. read more

Kiwi is one of the best things to happen to Park Slope in a long time. I have yet to see a store that compares to the service, selection and quality of Kiwi. Everyone there is helpful, thoughtful and amazing at making the shopper feel comfortable. They offer fantastic suggestions for pieces that you might never have thought work together but look amazing on and create a one of a kind outfit. They will honestly tell you when something doesn't look good and they will work with you to figure out your likes and dislikes and make suggestions based on that information. The Owners and their associates are a fantastic group of women and they completely get Park Slope women and that is not an easy thing to do! read more

I just love everything about this business, right down to the smell. Every time I walk in I want to move in! And then I make a few selections (it is hard because so much of it is so good) and try a few things on and the sales people are so lovely--really, like you are at home talking about clothes with your sisters! and they almost always pull things for you to try on to fit what they see as your needs (and they are always right!). I never feel pressured to buy a thing, but am almost always compelled to because I love their clothes and love giving them my business!!! read more

I have to disagree with the negative comments about the salespeople. I've always found them helpful and completely non judgmental about how I look. I'm 51 year old mother who could stand to lose 15 lbs especially in the tummy! I need tops to camouflage my midsection and the sales staff have made some great suggestions for me. Many of the tops are square cut so they don't cling at the midsection. So I don't get the comment that the store is for skinny women. Also they get bonus points for encouraging me to bring in my big dog while I shop! The only negative is that the items are indeed pricey! read more

Just wandered into this boutique late summer. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The women are so very helpful. Cute cute clothes, shoes. A bit pricey for some of the sweaters. But oh so worth it when you have it on. Jewelry by one of the saleswomen, Sarah is fresh, edgy... you won't see yourself coming and going. the good and the bad about this shop...too far away for me to go as often as I'd like AND too far away for me to go as often as I'd like. I've been buying at Kiwi since it opened, and I've always received good service, except for the last two times. An older sales person with red hair asked if she could help me, and when the first thing she showed me wasn't right, she said that was all they had and excitedly ran to help the customer she had been chatting (whispering actually) with before. I tried going back today. It was busy, but the same red haired older sales person ignored me for the whole 25 minutes I was looking around, while she was very friendly and helpful to everyone around me. I didn't see the other sales people much, but did keep coming across the red haired sales lady who never once addressed me. I tried on several outfits by myself, came out to look in the mirror, without anyone asking or commenting. When I heard the red haired sales lady say hello as we passed each other I responded, and then realized she had actually greeted someone else! She then said hello - kind of had to - and I told her I still hadn't found something to wear for a bar mitzvah tomorrow. She said they just didn't have that much in and walked away. Without her help, I noticed a cream colored dress and went to try it on. As I stepped out of the dressing room the sales lady quickly walked away without saying a word to me. I stood there looking in the mirror, not sure what to think, by myself. I had wanted to buy a t-shirt and perhaps this dress but of course didn't, and though I really want to support local businesses, I won't support women playing the exclusion game! One hopes girl bullying ends once you leave high school, but I experienced it today at this high end boutique. Two stars for their clothes and past good service. read more

Curvy! Did someone say curvy! I think I count as curvy and I have had great success at Kiwi! Plus -- I'm not a member of the "mombie" crowd...was...but now I'm a "grand-mombie." I, personally, like that children are welcome. They are part of the demographic of the neighborhood and, last time I checked, much of the world. But...back to Kiwi...friendly, helpful, enthusiastic but not pushy. There is a fine line between a helpful staff and a staff that tosses anything your way and tells you it looks great. That is NOT the case at Kiwi. I have been shopping here since they had their very first wee little store on Berkeley Place. They sell quality, beautiful staples and, as someone above mentioned, with a flair that makes the item worth the price. I'm still wearing clothing I purchased there years ago. In fact, I'm the author of the "30 Days of Kiwi Experiment." The clothing is not just for skinny people, but it may not be for everyone, and that's okay, as long as it's there for those who appreciate it. Like me. read more
