Kitchens Etc. renovated our kitchen, wine cellar, an upstairs bathroom and our upstairs hallway. From the moment we entered the showroom, Danielle and Mindy took care of us, offering insightful ideas, spot-on guidance and the three C's -- communication, common sense and caring. Communication -- We always knew what was happening every day. Schedules were met, promises were kept, and if there was a hiccup, we knew about it beforehand. To be clear, there WERE hiccups (in flooring and stone work), but even those were handled. Flooring America and Ventura Stone stepped up and made everything right. And in the case of Ventura Stone, at no extra cost to us. Common sense -- Danielle and Mindy never pushed us to do more than the space asked for. They also disabused us of dumb ideas. Not an easy thing to do. Caring -- Danielle and her impeccable team -- the demo guys led by Gabriel Martinez and his father; Chris and Hector on electrical; Chris and Ryan carpentry; and the boys at Taylor plumbing -- took care of us from start to finish. We suffered the loss of a close family member during the remodel. They were aware and sensitive to our grief. They worked around us when they needed to. As for timelines, the core promise of 10 weeks from demo to a nearly-finished, usable kitchen was met. That has never happened with a contractor in our lives. Of course, it went longer than that, but that was mostly due to The Snowball Effect. When we saw how good the work was, we couldn't help expanding it to other parts of the house. We put the Etc. in Kitchens Etc. We are the children of exiles who came to this country for a better life -- and found it. Our home is our heart, and our kitchen is our soul. We spend a lot of time around the island with family, friends and loved ones. Liked what I saw at the showroom and set up appointments from there. Melissa came out to see my kitchen and designed a beautiful kitchen with sleek lines and extra storage. Any remodel will be stressful, and most things will take longer than you hoped but the results are worth it. There are many items (cabinets, counters, backsplash, drawer pulls) you will have to decide and get ordered before the work starts. Melissa will try to make it as easy as she can and will keep you informed of things you need to do and when they will do the work. The workers that came to the house were professional and personable. The remodel of our kitchen has been completed for about a month now and we just love it. Danielle helped us with the selection of cabinet finishes, counter tops, and back splash, based on my stated preferences for style and working with the existing flooring style and colors.She even helped redesign the layout to be more efficient and provide us with the full pantry our previous kitchen lacked. They gutted the kitchen and laundry room. Their crews did all of the electrical, plumbing, cabinet installation, tiling, and did some additions to the existing flooring as required by the removal of the old cabinets. They were able to match the levels of wood laminate in the dining area to the kitchen tiles so that there was no need for a transition strip between the two. The work took about 6 weeks - slightly longer than the 5 weeks estimated. Anything I brought up that wasn't right was fixed immediately without argument or complaint. The only glitch was a delay at the beginning because they prefer to estimate everything but the contract work, which left us wondering about the final cost. After talking to our neighbor, who also used Kitchens Etc a few years ago, we called Dean and he agreed to come out and provide us with the complete estimate. We are happy we did that. read more

I'm so happy that I chose Kitchens Etc. to do our kitchen remodel! We had a big project on our hands...we not only wanted bring our kitchen out of the 1970s, we wanted to move our kitchen to the other side of the room. We new this would be a large project and received several quotes. Kitchens Etc. was not the cheapest, but they also weren't the most expensive. We ended up choosing them for several reasons: 1) The cabinets (semi custom) were great quality; 2) They had a larger variety of cabinet colors/styles to choose from, compared to some of the other companies we received quotes from; 3) They were honest and set realistic expectations up front about possible problems we could encounter; 4) The designers, Sara and Danielle, were very talented, knowledgeable, and accommodating; 5) They had no problem if we wanted other contractors to do portions of the work (for example if we had our own painter or tiler), or if we wanted to do some work ourselves (we did our own demo); 6) Their show room was larger than most, which is nice when you want to see all sorts of options, and it's local (Simi Valley); and 7) When I compared Kitchens Etc's quote to some of the others I received, I found less inflated (for lack of a better word) pricing. I say this because...as an example, we have a professional painter in the family, so we knew that we were going to use him for our painting needs. When I would receive quotes I would have him look at the painting quote we received just to give us an idea how "inflated" the company's pricing was. Some of the companies we saw wanted almost DOUBLE what our painter said was a reasonable price for the job. We also have a family friend who is a plumber, and although we didn't use him for our plumbing on this project, he looked at the quotes we were given to give us some perspective. We understand that companies need to make money, but we wanted to find out exactly how much money the companies were trying to get out of us...and Kitchens Etc consistently was more reasonable in that regard. Ok, so those are the reasons why we chose Kitchens Etc. and like I said I am so glad we did. During the majority of our project Chris, the electrician, was our main contact on the job. From day one he gave us his cellphone number and was always responsive to questions or concerns we may have had. About two weeks into the remodel, when I had the crazy idea to open up the rafters (which we LOVE), he was the one I contacted. He came over right away, as well as the designers Sara and Danielle, and we worked out a plan to tackle the project. This obviously added an extra cost to the remodel, but what I loved is that I never felt "nickeled and dimed." We had several little changes, an extra outlet here, an additional light there, etc. and they never came back to me saying "oh well its $15 per outlet" or "that's an extra $30 for the light." I appreciated that. Overall, I really felt like I mattered as a customer. Every person that walked in my door from Kitchens Etc. was polite and hard working. I was never concerned about them being in my home when I wasn't there, they were great with my dogs, and they always left my home clean (as can be during the middle of a remodel). Now, for closing thoughts I'll leave you with the one and only "con" about Kitchens etc. and that is the timing of their quotes. When you shop around for kitchen remodel quotes, as a customer you want to gather as much information as possible so that you choose the "right" company/person to do the job. When you first visit Kitchens Etc. they will send a designer out to measure the area. In about a week or two you will be able to go in and see the beautiful computer rendered design and get a quote for the cabinets and installation of those cabinets. And maybe this is all you need so this isn't a "con" at all for you. But in my situation I needed all the plumbing, gas, and electrical relocated as well as the installation of a range hood etc. This initial quote does not have that pricing on it. In fact, in my situation, they would not give me a quote on those things until I committed to going with Kitchens etc. on the cabinets. Now, when Kitchen's etc. does give you that full quote they send an electrician, plumber, painter, tiler etc. etc. to your home to give you the most accurate quote possible. This no doubt costs them money, which is why they probably don't do it before hand. But as someone who is shopping around, this can be nerve-wracking. Fortunately for me I loved Kitchens etc.'s cabinets and their design/design team, so I was willing to make the leap of faith and thought worst case scenario I would get someone else to do the rest. But as it turns out, when I did get the full quote I was happy with it. The remodel took about 6 weeks (basically finished at the end of March). Kitchens etc. has continued to be there for us even after the project was considered completed. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

I'll cut to the chase without spending alot of time providing details. A kitchen remodel was sought (originally against my wishes), and we ended up visiting the showroom at Kitchens Etc. My wife had made the first trip, and she convinced me to visit after the fact. I ended up meeting with Danielle who was an absolutely professional person to deal with. When she first introduced herself to me, I told her that I was sent there by my wife, and I was against doing a remodel. No big deal as far as she was concerned; she still spent time answering questions without any sales pitch whatsoever. For me, that was a good thing. We ultimately agreed to have Kitchens come to our home, take photos, and then draw up a plan. To make a long story short...after 3 plan revisions, we decided to have Kitchens do a remodel for us. Yep, they were our first and only visit to a contractor, but we were totally happy with what they told us about our project and what to expect. Was it a mistake not going out and getting other bids after the fact? Perhaps, but there comes a time when personal relationships and trust enter the equation. We had a comfort level with Kitchens, and we decided to go with our gut. At the end of the day, we have no regrets and believe it was a great decision to go with them. Our project started, and every single person that came to our home was absolutely outstanding to deal with. It didn't make a difference if they were there for demo or were a tradesman. All were friendly, professional, and the quality of their work was outstanding. Yeah, we had a couple of hiccups...even to the point of Kitchens having to cover some additional work on their dime. However, the corrections were made without issue, and we were completely satisfied at the end of the day. It should be noted that even after they had to cover work on their end, we still received a check for credit after the fact. You can't beat honesty such as that. I'm an old school type of guy where a handshake is all that should be needed with some type of agreement. Kitchens didn't disappoint in that realm whatsoever. At the end of the day, even though I didn't want to do the project, we are totally happy with how we were treated by Kitchens. Moreover, we're extremely pleased with the work that was performed. We still have a bathroom that we might want to do work on. If that comes to pass, we'll be contacting Kitchens Etc. in the future. read more

Kitchens Etc. recently completed a studs-out remodel of our primary suite bathroom. This was our third time working with the Kitchens Etc. team, which had previously remodeled our kitchen and a guest bathroom. On all three occasions, the completed projects were just what we had envisioned and completely transformed and opened up what had previously been very dated and cramped spaces. For the primary bath remodel, we again worked principally with Melissa Clouse, who assisted us with creating the design and provided overall project management. Melissa's expertise in the areas of kitchen and bath design is formidable and we also relied on her to steer us through the various subsequent steps of the project, including materials selection, demolition, construction, and final touches. Throughout the project, Melissa routinely made site visits to ensure that the work was progressing appropriately. When, as is invariably the case, a few "punch list" items were identified at project end, Melissa was very responsive in sending out the appropriate personnel to take care of each issue. As in the past, it was also reassuring to again work with Kitchen Etc.'s lead electrician, Chris, as well as its lead carpenter, who is likewise named Chris. My husband and I waited 3 years after owning our home to save up enough money to finally remodel our very outdated 1970's kitchen. The things that were most important to me were budget, time frames and quality. I wanted to find a kitchen designer and cabinet installer who could give me a beautiful, functional new kitchen within my modest budget. Prior to deciding to go with Kitchens Etc. I met with a few other local cabinet designer/installers who were quite expensive and also met with Home Depot. Surprisingly, Home Depot is not as inexpensive as you might think, even with their promotions and 10% discounts, the cabinets and installation only priced out to be only $2,000 less than Kitchens Etc. for what I thought was very inferior design. (Kitchens etc. design, delivery, install was around $12K. Home Depot often has to give you fillers and where cabinets could only be a certain size, the designer gave me a vertical wine cubby which I didn't even want but she didn't have a choice. That is just one example of some weird design decisions that HD wanted to give me. We worked with Dean from Kitchens Etc. who came out to my home, took measurements, listened to what I wanted and within a few days later, we met on a Saturday at his showroom to go over his design proposal. He was very patient in answering our questions and explained every item on the quote thoroughly. The one thing that I want to warn homeowners is that Home Depot gives you just cabinet costs. They do not give you estimates on all the prework (demo, electrical, plumbing) and associated renovation work (countertops, backsplash, electrical etc.) - so it will seem like they offer a good price. Kitchens Etc. gave me a quote end-to-end which although it gave us a bit of sticker shock, it was so helpful to really budget properly for this project. My dad is an electrical contractor and I have built contacts with a local plumber, countertop and flooring contractors of my own, so I asked Dean if it would be possible for Kitchens Etc. to just design, deliver and install the cabinets. Without hesitating, Dean said "Sure! No problem." Dean continued to be this accommodating, helpful and responsive throughout the whole process. He never tried to upsell me on more expensive cabinets (like some others do, warning me that they will fall apart after a few years). He never warned me that coordinating and general contracting my own kitchen remodel was going to be hard. He even went out of his way to mark the kitchen after the demo for the electrician to know where to install new outlets and lights. His detailed quote gave me a good roadmap to follow when directing my contractors. I could go on and on about how easy this process was thanks to Dean and Kitchens Etc. He always returned my calls promptly no matter what question I had (big or small), whether it was his problem or not, he always helped. The cabinets arrived on time as promised, installed on time. I wanted to complete the remodel before I had my first baby (I am pregnant) and Dean explained the timeframes to me and met them. It ended up being perfect because of all the prework we needed to complete. The installation crew that arrived, led by Chris was extremely professional and skilled. It is clear that they do this a LOT. It is complex and yet they make it look so easy. They were pleasant, friendly and hard working. The kitchen turned out BEAUTIFUL. I can't believe it went so smoothly and Dean's design expertise and professional cabinet installation crew was a big part of it. Today was the last day for finishing work and I couldn't be happier. I checked numerous places from warehouse centers to specialty shop and found them to be in the upper half when it came to price, but when you look at all that is included with Kitchens Etc. the decision was clear. Their designer (Jennifer) listened and gave us multiple designs to start with, then made suggestions but always listened and worked with what we wanted. She walked us through each of the choices and was outstanding in her field. Each of the workers that we met were professional and took great pride in their work. The work was not signed off until the owner and I went through the completed kitchen and made sure we both were satisfied with the work. We were putting off our kitchen remodel for years because of the horror stories out there on going through a major kitchen renovation. We finally bit the bullet and after reading amazing reviews on Yelp and Angies List, we decided to hire Kitchen's Etc. From the beginning we knew we made the right decision. We worked with Danielle and absolutely loved her. She was easy to work with and efficient. She had wonderful ideas and helped us transform our kitchen into the kitchen of our dreams. We also renovated 2 fireplaces, garage/laundry room, flooring and ceilings, as well as painted all living areas. It was a huge job. Danielle put together a huge binder for us and kept us informed and organized. She managed all the subcontractors and any issues that came up were handled quickly and efficiently. Every aspect and finish of the job turned out beautifully. We couldn't be more thrilled and we now have a stunning kitchen to show off. We had talked for years about the need for a kitchen remodel but never had the desire to go through that process, not to mention the expense. When the subject came up to someone that has done it we always heard stories of how long and horrible the process is. Not being in any hurry to do so, I set out to find a company that I could trust and have confidence in to do the job. My method is to always get three or four estimates before making a decision. I called three companies and scheduled three appointments. My first stop was to Kitchen's Etc. After meeting with Danielle in the showroom I knew in my mind that this would be my first and last stop. Danielle could not have been more pleasant and helpful, she is completely knowledgeable of all the products in their showroom and has a strong desire to collaborate with you on what you goals are for a new kitchen. Shortly after that meeting Dean and Danielle came to our house to measure and discuss what our options would be. Chris, their electrician, joined in a little later. My confidence in this company was fortified as I watched and listened to them discuss the plan. They all have such a calm method that shows their experience. Now it was all up to my wife and I as we were given a proposal and outline of the time and cost for our project. Kitchens Etc. never tried to persuade us beyond what we had expressed but always kept us on the right path with their guidance as we selected cabinets, counter tops and accessories. When the job started, everything had been scheduled and they were right on target everyday for each task. Demo, electrical, plumbing drywall etc. It was actually fun to watch it all develop, the whole crew works together and efficiently. Chris the electrician can do everything and every time I expressed a concern he was calm and assuring. Hector did the tile and backsplash, Chris the carpenter installed the cabinets, and the contractors that installed the countertops did the job to perfection. Our new kitchen is more than we ever imagined. The new layout makes the space look much larger than before and its so much easier to work in. Everyone that sees our kitchen for the first time is amazed at how great it looks. I can't recommend them enough. This is a family owned business and that is a benefit. I could tell from the conversations with the other companies that they were first trying to overly present themselves as a means to justify higher costs. Not to mention the lack of a down to earth approach. Thats what you get with Kitchens's etc form start to finish.
