When we bought our condo over 15 years ago, the kitchen cabinets were strong and stable, very good quality - like new. But the cabinet doors really needed a facelift - only replacement would due. But I didn't know exactly what to do - since every company out there wanted the job of redoing my kitchen completely. I went hunting all over Rockville, MD for a contractor - and one company up on Gude Drive recommended Kitchen Magic in Gambrills, MD to me - the woman told me that they did "refacing" - and it seemed to her that this is what I needed. I called and I received an in-home estimate, along with samples of cabinetry that could be installed. They got the job after also offering a reasonable price. The man who came to do the installation was a professional carpenter from the Pittsburgh, PA area - and he applied his skills of perfection to my job. Now, 15 years later, our kitchen looks as beautiful as it did all those years ago - after Kitchen Magic performed its "MAGIC" Everything held up well, no loose doors, etc. We are still VERY HAPPY with Kitchen Magic's help when we needed it - at a very reasonable price, too! read more

This is the most unprofessional, inappropriate company I have ever dealt with. I arranged have someone come to my house and provide an estimate for refacing my cabinets (the Thursday 7:30 pm appointment in Arnold, MD in case the supervisor cares to read this). The man I dealt with was unbelievable. I began to tell him what I wanted to accomplish, he stopped me and asked where the rest of my family was. I said that my wife and kids are at the YMCA and will be back within a half hour. He said 'I might as well leave then, because we don't do any consulting until everyone is here'. Did I mention that I said my wife would be back within 30 minutes? I said that my wife and I have sat down and made clear decisions on exactly what we want accomplished, its just a matter of finding out who can accomplish it for the best value, besides, I have 4 young kids and even if my wife was here with all of them at least 1 of us wouldn't be able to do much listening or responding. He then said 'I know of a good kennel that you can leave you kids at for a week'. Seriously?!?!?!? He then began to get political and rip ObamaCare, I have no idea why, plus politics is never something to talk about with complete strangers as its typically a touchy subject. He then started to argue with me about the need for my wife to be here before he did anything. I would assume that if you are trying to earn business you wouldn't argue with the person inviting you into their home who was hoping to do business with you. Not that anyone seeking service should have to, but I tried to explain why it would be ok if he at least got started with information gathering by stating that my wife and I have spent ample time discussing what we want and that I'm in the real estate rehabbing business (as to provide some credibility to the fact that it would be ok for him to do something while waiting for my wife to come back) and he began to state that I was lying by saying ' a lot of people say that they are in real estate rehabbing, I was a VP for a development company and built thousands of homes blah blah blah...... The way in which he talked to me and the things that he said made made me feel as though I was an idiot who is incapable of knowing how to communicate with or understand my spouse. He made me feel as though I was a child who can't make any good decisions. I am not an emotionally sensitive individual, so the rest of my night will be pleasant, but I thought it prudent to make sure everyone knows the truth about this horrendous company. STAY AWAY! Stay away from this company! We recently signed a contract to have our cabinets refaced and a new countertop installed. The salesman was very helpful and we were excited about this project. That is, until we met the Project Manager from Hell. This gentleman clearly has issues. After taking measurements, he told us that certain aspects of the project would have to be revised. When I called him to talk through the changes, he wouldn't allow me to talk. I mean, he literally would not let me talk. When I would start speaking, he would talk over me. He told me that he's been designing kitchen for 30 years, so I shouldn't question his decisions. He told me that people who live in $5 million homes are satisfied with his work, so I shouldn't question his decisions. He also contributed his view that my house is "junk." He then told me that if we didn't want to do things his way, he'd send us a check. I insisted he let me speak. Then he hung up on me. I am not making this up. I called him back. He wouldn't answer. I sent an email. He would not respond. I finally got through to the company this morning. I talked to another person for 20 minutes. It was a good conversation. We resolved all of the outstanding issues. And it wasn't contentious at all. Because it never had to be. Ten minutes later, I got an email explaining that our project had been cancelled and our deposit would be mailed back. No explanation. I called to find out what was going on. No explanation. I've spent at least 8-10 hours working with this company to redesign my kitchen, and I've got bupkus. I suspect that there might be other customers who know what they want and aren't afraid to ask for it. If that's the case, don't call Kitchen Magic. Married couples this example is for you: Because you're married they will try and insist that both the husband and wife be there. This is simply a sales tactic so you will have to make a decision on the spot, "I'll have to check with my wife won't work if she's standing right there"... I set up an appointment for an estimate for Wednesday. I called the day of the appointment to confirm the date and time and I was given a confirmation by the sales rep and told the name of the designer coming to my home. I took off work early to be there and I got a no call and no show that evening. This company is very unprofessional. I wouldn't trust them with my kitchen if they can't even honor an appointment or have at least called and cancelled. How inconvenient. read more

I submitted a request for a quote online. I was called back within 24 hours, which was great -- however, the man I spoke to was extremelly rude, unprofessional, and spoke to me as if I was an idiot. When he collected my address, I was pleased to hear he had worked on several units in my development. But then he felt it was necessary to inform me I lived in a 'rough' neighborhood, and asked if I'm comfortable walking around it. I was taken aback. I live in Southwest Waterfront by the way... I let it slide, figuring he's just ignorant. I told him my vision. He then talked over me for 10 minutes. Told me no, no, no, no to simple requests I had. SIMPLE things, like adding a soft close option to drawers, or a spice rack. He told me he knows what he's doing, he's been in business for 32 years, this is how it's done, no one adds spice racks. Really? I'm pretty sure that's 100% incorrect. He then blindly quoted me $20K, without even discussing types of wood. When I said my kitchen was smaller than 8ft x 8ft, he told me that ALL kitchens from the 1960's (the year my home was built) are the same floor-plan and he knows what he's talking about ('I've been in business 32 years'). Really? ALL kitchens built in the 1960's have the same layout? I don't think so. I couldn't agree with John T. more. We must have had the same rep come out to our house. He was very rude, had a poor attitude and insulted me in my own home. I should have asked him to leave halfway through our consultation but slogged it out until the end. I wound up choosing one of their competitors for our kitchen remodeling solely based on this awful experience. Everything turned out great with the other company. Additionally, I wrote a letter to the owner several days later expressing the above experience. I NEVER heard back from anyone. What a company! read more

Kitchen Magic refaced/remodeled out kitchen 1.5 years ago and they did an excellent job. During consulting, they offered many samples, several ideas/designs for a new wine cabinet we wanted built, and contract work with counter top. They managed the entire project to our specifications excellently and in the time promised. Moreover, they offered suggestions for the one item they didn't contract (installation of the back splash). And they stand behind the refacing process and fix (at no cost) any area that should come "undone". Such a great option to get a new kitchen without losing your kitchen for weeks on end to complete the project. read more

We hired Kitchen Magic to reface the kitchen cabinets. Had a horrible experience with that company. They order veneers and doors from some "reputable" manufacturer, how ever veneers came in defective TWICE!!! Despite seeing that veneers are defective workers kept plastering veneers on and then taking them off so the project took 2 MONTHS!!! instead of the promised 5-6 days and created a lot of mess in the house.. The quality of work was very poor so we had to stand over the workers and make sure they didn't cut corners. They also installed a wall oven for us and it was crooked so we had to call the manufacturer rep to reset it correctly. Our list of complains could be much longer but I don't want to waste any more of my time on that company. read more

First, the installation itself was very good. No issues there. We did have significant issues with Kitchen Magic in the final week. My brother signed a contract with Kitchen Magic to complete the work stated above with a 1/3 down-payment and the rest to be financed at 0% for 12 months. The home was vacated in early July, as I worked (possessing my brother's full power-of-attorney) with contractors to complete pre-sale renovations. My brother moved 3 hours away in early July and planned to return when required. Kitchen Magic was unable to start the installation when they scheduled because of an employee illness - no issue there, it does happen and we were understanding and flexible. After the installation eventually began (July 29), after Mike, from the company determined that the installation MIGHT be completed on August 1st, Mike called me at work and stated that we must either come with cashier's or certified check for the balance due ... or get my brother to return that day to sign the 0% loan ... or their employee would "walk off the job right now". I told Mike that declaring an emergency was unnecessary as my brother could come up on Saturday and sign any paperwork necessary OR he could FedEx the paperwork to him, he would sign/notarize it and return it via FedEx and he would have it all by Wednesday ... and we would happily pay the Fedex costs. He refused to do anything via FedEx and reiterated that if we could not commit to getting my brother to drop everything and return to the worksite with payment-in-full before their employee left "today", he would have their employee "walk off the job right now". He then blamed the Federal Government, new credit laws and the rigorous requirements of the credit agency and that he "had been stiffed by a prior customer who did not pay". I reminded him that we had been very flexible with their schedule and they could be flexible for a couple days to get my brother to drive up to sign any paperwork ... it was just impossible to do it "today". I was unable to leave work, my brother could not leave and drive three hours ... so my wife took the remainder of the day off to get a bank check and get to the job site ... only to find that the installer was unable to finish that day anyway!!! Manufactured emergency ... no need for a check and 1/2 day wasted. Okay ... I was not quick enough to remind him that we actually have a signed contract that states that they will do work and we will actually pay for it. There is no requirement that payment be made or paperwork be signed the very day that work is completed, especially when the job completion is indefinite. The fact that there is a contract actually DOES mean something to both parties and we did nothing at all to deserve this manufactured emergency. In the end, we seemed forced to skip the 12-month 0% financing, which, I suspect, was the reason they manufactured this emergency ... they benefit by receiving cash over credit. Oh ... and they still have not deposited the 1/3 down-payment check they were given at contract signing on June 11th (today is August 14th). Recommendation: I would read your contract payment terms well in advance of signing the contract. Ensure that payment of any balance due is required by reasonable terms: 15 days or 30 days from project completion. If you cannot get reasonable contract payment terms that ensure they cannot create an emergency, do not do business with this company. read more

It seems there is a great deal of difference between what was promised and what actually happens when you call in to report a problem with their installation. The first response on the telephone was "that can't be". I inspected the problem and described it to the person on the phone and he told me that can't be. I was told that they would send someone out to fix it. I called again a week later and was told that they are busy and would get to it when they could. I sent an e-mail after 10 days and was told it had only been a week and to be patient. The repairman came out two weeks later and worked on the problem. When asked how he planned to repair the problem he was rude and said don't worry about it just let me fix it. As it turned out it was a sloppy installation in the first place that caused the problem. I'm sorry to say this clouded my judgement regarding what was an otherwise good installation of our kitchen. read more

Let's just say it's a process. I had my kitchen cabinets and powder room cabinets refaced, under cabinet lighting, and lower cabinets changed to new drawers. I chose them because I wanted real wood doors. First you get someone to the house to bring samples, measure and give you the price. If you agree, the next step is to have the "real" measurer come out and go over everything again. Then the order is placed and you wait weeks for the doors to come in. We had 2 nice older men do the job. They said they have been with the company a long time so my expectations were high that they would do a professional job. They covered the countertops and new wood floor to keep down the mess but I have 2 dents in my wood floor due to dropped tools. Everything was going well, until they realized that 4 of the doors were hinged backwards and 1 narrow special door was measured wrong so that meant reordering. After several phone calls and weeks later the replacements arrived but the 4 doors were a darker stain than the rest of the cabinets. I took pictures and after more phone calls and weeks later it was agreed that these doors would be replaced and I gave them a drawer facing to make sure the stain would match. In the meantime, we noticed that one of the glass panels had a big scratch on it so that involved pictures and more phone calls and weeks to get that corrected. Nothing happens very fast with this company. We also had a little issue with the molding on the sides of the cabinets. I had to ask them to put new molding where previous molding had been! Plus they put quarter round floor molding in the powder room instead of half round which was already in the powder room. They fixed both without question. In the end, some of the kitchen cabinets were not even across the top and one of the drawers wouldn't stay closed. So, when a different carpenter delivered the replacement cabinets, noted above, I pointed these issues out and he fixed those problems. He was very professional and was an educated carpenter. I am happy with the final product, but it took months of phone calls, e-mails, pictures, frustration, and wasted time to get to the finish. Good thing I am retired so I didn't have to take off from work to deal with the issues. So when they say you will have a new looking kitchen in 3-4 days, don't believe it for a minute. read more
