Quick Summary: Jim runs an exceptionally professional business, and I would gladly hire him again…read morefor any job to improve my household. He is an excellent communicator, and his workers were not only courteous but very skilled at their respective jobs. He was able to finish my basement in a timely manner with high-quality materials. I could not be happier with the work Brown's Custom Contracting did within my home. Detailed Summary of My Experience: I contacted Jim initially just to get an estimate for finishing my basement, which was in a state that needed major work because the walls were made of cinderblock and the floors were complete concrete; it was a space that was probably best used for storage and I would not call it "comfortably livable." Jim arrived quickly for an estimate and helped me explore the possibilities of the space, even going so far as to note what would be difficult or expensive to pull off. Within days he provided an estimate for the job, which I found out during the process was a major ordeal involving many phases and individuals, so I'm impressed he was able to produce a price so quickly (and in the end it was an accurate price). I signed Jim up for the job because of his straightforward and pleasant attitude. In the weeks and months that followed (this was a major job, I want to note), Jim gave me frequent updates about what workers I could expect to come by and when/how-long they would be there. Every person who came onto the property was skilled and good about communicating what they would be working on, especially when they had questions about the possibilities of the space. Jim also handled all of the work involving the permits and he worked with the county to ensure everything was up to code. He also alerted me any time there was a change in plans or if there was a possibility of delay. Given how involved this basement-finish job was, there were plenty of opportunities for major hurdles, but the project was still completed in a timely manner, and it was always clear to me what was going on, what would happen next, etc. The final product is everything I could've wanted. Jim made efficient use of the space to make as much of it "comfortably livable" as possible. Even the water heater and HVAC unit were relocated with no diminishment in functionality just for the sake of making the basement as good as it could possibly be. I'm very pleased with the additional space my family has been given, and there isn't a single rough edge in the room. Jim's guys are the best and I highly recommend his service to anyone looking to improve their homes. I have included pictures of the job before and after just so you can see the quality of work.

We hired Brown's for the rebuild of our deck after moving into our new home. It took a while to…read morecoordinate a time to meet with Jim, but he was very professional right from the start and provided the most competitive pricing for the job. As a property manager myself, I appreciated his clean contracting process - he'll print out two copies so both you and he can sign, he'll document the down payment amount and check number (and sign), he'll get his insurance agent to provide you with a COI right after, and keep you updated regularly throughout the project and will document any change orders with updated payment schedules. Our deck project became complicated by obvious grading/drainage issues and sunken footers at the adjacent porch that the deck is flush to, which caused our project cost to increase significantly. Some would say that the change in scope is a pricing tactic, and maybe it is for some, but not Jim. He carefully explained and showed us the issues, then helped prioritize them so we knew what really needed to be addressed and what could wait. His sub was great - always on time, productive as hell, and maintained a tidy worksite. You could tell the sub really cared about their work and Jim made it a point to stop by to check in. The end result is a beautiful deck that we cannot wait to furnish and use. The experience with Jim was so great that we will call him when we're ready to bid out our master bath and kitchen reno. He's a good human.

But the cabinet doors really needed a facelift - only replacement would due. But I didn't know exactly what to do - since every company out there wanted the job of redoing my kitchen completely. I went hunting all over Rockville, MD for a contractor - and one company up on Gude Drive recommended Kitchen Magic in Gambrills, MD to me - the woman told me that they did "refacing" - and it seemed to her that this is what I needed. I called and I received an in-home estimate, along with samples of cabinetry that could be installed. They got the job after also offering a reasonable price. The man who came to do the installation was a professional carpenter from the Pittsburgh, PA area - and he applied his skills of perfection to my job. Now, 15 years later, our kitchen looks as beautiful as it did all those years ago - after Kitchen Magic performed its "MAGIC" Everything held up well, no loose doors, etc. We are still VERY HAPPY with Kitchen Magic's help when we needed it - at a very reasonable price, too!

This is the most unprofessional, inappropriate company I have ever dealt with. I arranged have…read moresomeone come to my house and provide an estimate for refacing my cabinets (the Thursday 7:30 pm appointment in Arnold, MD in case the supervisor cares to read this). The man I dealt with was unbelievable. I began to tell him what I wanted to accomplish, he stopped me and asked where the rest of my family was. I said that my wife and kids are at the YMCA and will be back within a half hour. He said 'I might as well leave then, because we don't do any consulting until everyone is here'. Did I mention that I said my wife would be back within 30 minutes? I said that my wife and I have sat down and made clear decisions on exactly what we want accomplished, its just a matter of finding out who can accomplish it for the best value, besides, I have 4 young kids and even if my wife was here with all of them at least 1 of us wouldn't be able to do much listening or responding. He then said 'I know of a good kennel that you can leave you kids at for a week'. Seriously?!?!?!? He then began to get political and rip ObamaCare, I have no idea why, plus politics is never something to talk about with complete strangers as its typically a touchy subject. He then started to argue with me about the need for my wife to be here before he did anything. I would assume that if you are trying to earn business you wouldn't argue with the person inviting you into their home who was hoping to do business with you. Not that anyone seeking service should have to, but I tried to explain why it would be ok if he at least got started with information gathering by stating that my wife and I have spent ample time discussing what we want and that I'm in the real estate rehabbing business (as to provide some credibility to the fact that it would be ok for him to do something while waiting for my wife to come back) and he began to state that I was lying by saying ' a lot of people say that they are in real estate rehabbing, I was a VP for a development company and built thousands of homes blah blah blah...... The way in which he talked to me and the things that he said made made me feel as though I was an idiot who is incapable of knowing how to communicate with or understand my spouse. He made me feel as though I was a child who can't make any good decisions. I am not an emotionally sensitive individual, so the rest of my night will be pleasant, but I thought it prudent to make sure everyone knows the truth about this horrendous company. STAY AWAY! I will NEVER use this company for ANYTHING, even if it costs me double!

So, I've never before left a review for a company for giving me a price quote, but what Marcus at M…read more& C Global Construction did was way above and beyond, and I would highly recommend his business to anybody in need of general contracting work. I was looking into getting siding done for my elderly mother's home, which is badly in need of repair, and Marcus not only gave me a quote, but he (1) was incredibly honest about possible damage underneath the siding once the job begins that may need to be addressed to maintain the integrity of the structure of the house (something that the other contractors I got quotes from didn't do), (2) went out of his way to make the right kind of financing available to my mother to accommodate her concerns by adding a new option to his list of financing options by having his company sign up with an additional bank, (3) made adjustments to match competitors' price quotes, (4) took a look at some other areas of my mother's home to help me make assessments about what work to prioritize and (5) overall made it abundantly clear that customer comfort and understanding are important to him. I mean, he answered a ton of questions I had over a period of weeks, and he also instilled in me the importance of addressing certain issues with my mom's house to maintain the home value and not cause or exasperate potential structural issues in the long run, emphasizing that he wanted her to make the best decisions regardless of whether or not we were able to sign a contract with M & C Global at this time. I have nothing but positive things to say about my contact with the owner of this company, and in fact he has left me feeling much more knowledgeable about the work ahead that needs to be done on my mother's home (even beyond the siding issues) and more empowered to get the work done. Marcus told me that he's passionate about advocating for homeownership and helping people maintain their homes. It definitely shows.

The crew was fantastic start to finish and were all the above as well. They did everything possible to minimize disruption and were very nice to have around. We are delighted with our project and I don't have a single negative thing to say about the project or M & C Global. You will not regret working with this company for your project.
