This is the 3rd time of us using Kitchen and Bath RB. First time -Mark and team did my kitchen in 2014 (major remodel) and did a superb job. Second time - 2019, we remodeled 2 bathrooms. This time Oct 2025 - with Kevin taking over the business as Mark has retired, and happy to see the same crew like Frank on site, we did 2 bedrooms (flooring, lighting, painting.) We are pleased with the work Kitchen & Bath did renovating our master bathroom, guest bath, den and laundry porch. Mark was very easy to work with. He listened to our ideas and goals, asked all the right questions, and offered suggestions to ensure we had considered other alternatives or possibilities. His bid was competitive, and throughout the project, even when unforeseen changes or challenges came up, or even when we changed our mind on something, any change orders or price increases over the initial bid were very reasonable. What a nice job! Mark and his people gutted and rebuilt my master bathroom. They showed up when they said they would. They charged me what they said they would. They were pleasant and neat. We did not know how to get started and Mark's suggestions for what to do were really helpful. His recommendations about suppliers, materials, and fixture were great. So impressed with Mark and his team! I wish I could give them 10 stars. We remodeled our kitchen, new cabinets, countertops, appliances, floor...the works. Mark gave us wonderful ideas and listened to what we wanted. (This was a change from the other companies we contacted.) The team that did the work was professional, on time, and always cleaned up after themselves. One of the biggest selling points for us using Kitchen and Bath Studios was not just the great quality but the consistency of their workforce. Kitchen and Bath's reviews are really unfortunate. We just finished working with them on a kitchen remodel/face lift and some other odd jobs around the house and they did an excellent job on everything. Services provided by RB: - demo our old tile countertops - a bunch of electrical work: taking out about 10 old CFL plug-in bulb type cans throughout our house, replacing the old cans with new LED fixtures, patched one of the cans up entirely, added three pendant lights above our island, under cabinet lights where there were previously none, and installed a chandelier in place of one of the old recessed cans above our kitchen table. They also rewired our kitchen to put different lights on different switches in a way that makes more sense for our kitchen functionally. - drywall repair for all demo work and ceiling lighting work - installed cabinet knobs and drawer pulls on 50 cabinets + 20 drawers in our kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, and hallway - contracted out the countertop measurement, fabrication, and installation to a very reputable company that took very good care of our slabs (hey, they were pricey) and did an awesome job with the install. Although the line item came out to be a bit more than our cheapest independent granite installer's bid, Mark explained the importance of hiring a reputable place to fabricate and install, and at the end of the day he was 100% right. The two things that they will not do are cabinet refacing/staining and paint touch ups. We were were ok with that and had our own painter do the cabinets and paint touch ups, which was probably cheaper for us anyway. For all of this work we were expecting an outrageous bid, but RB Kitchen was extremely reasonable in cost for everything we had them do. We added a fair number of recessed can swaps to our project, some extra drywall fixes, and a few other things that weren't in the original bid and our final payment still came out to within a few hundred dollars of the original estimate, so we were pleasantly surprised. The reviews on this page scared me, but my parents had used RB to do a bathroom remodel a few years ago and our family friends had used them for a kitchen remodel and both spoke very highly of the work and pricing, so we really didn't get any other bids for our job. However, given these reviews I probably would have never used these guys, so I would like to address some of the things that were said in order to hopefully make people see that this place is really a gem. First of all, I saw one review that said the client was expected to pay 96% of the contract before the work began. We were asked to give a 1/7 deposit which I thought was very reasonable. We paid the rest in two more payments as work was being done and a final payment that was similar to our first payment. So, 4 payments that spanned from right before work was started until the work was completed. And about one reviewer's comment saying she/he had to pay in cash, we used credit card for 3 of our 4 payments with no problems whatsoever. As far as not getting calls back or scheduling just right, I have honestly never had a business that we solicited services on our from call me back, but RB did. So I highly doubt they are purposely turning away jobs, because our job was not very large and we heard back promptly. Our bid took a few days but now I understand it is because Mark contracts work out to different people, so he needs numbers from multiple places to put a full bid together. As far as flexibility, we had accidentally not communicated one of the days that our painters would be spraying our cabinets and had to cancel on the drywall guy last minute. We were not given a hard time about this at all and they came for drywall repairs just a couple days later at our convenience. Each morning the contractors came at an hour that they knew would get us to work at a reasonable hour so we didn't have to wait around, and they were friendly to the point of not even making us lock our cats in a room most days. Mark was really great to work with and very involved in our project, which gave us a lot of confidence in their work. None of our requests annoyed them and we definitely did a few add-ons for work after they had already started on our project. I highly recommend working with RB and can't wait to find other projects to have them work on for us in the future! read more

Every day I enjoy my new kitchen and am so glad I picked Kitchen and Bath Studios. It was a complete gut and remodel of an old 1970s kitchen, which is a big job. Mark and his team were professional, courteous and timely from beginning to end. The bid was comprehensive, unlike another high-end local outfit that simply gave me a number with no cost break down. Two other bids seemed ridiculously high, but when I asked for clarification, they didn't respond back. Not only was the bid from Kitchen and Bath Studios was the most reasonable, Mark walked us through the design process, giving tips when needed but listening to what we wanted. I felt that he was really committed to giving us what we wanted - whatever we requested, his response was almost always "no problem," and if he couldn't do something, he had a good reason from a construction stand point. We made some initial decisions and moved forward, but there were some design features that my husband and I couldn't make until we had seen the initial cabinetry in place. Mark didn't take advantage of the fact that we were already half way into the job to hike up the price of the changes. He stayed within budget from his end and if things went up, it was because my husband and I changed our minds or wanted something more extensive than we had discussed. He was frequently on-site overseeing progress and checking in with my husband and I to make sure things were going as planned. When we wanted some lights moved, his response again was "no problem." His right-hand man Frank was competent and efficient. So many other workers whose names I can't recall, were polite and friendly and a pleasure to work with. There were a few delays, as there always are with this sort of project; a piece of countertop was misplaced and the new one from the supplier didn't match, but Mark worked doggedly and made it right. We picked a custom backsplash that took a few tries to get right , but Mark and his team Mike and Phil kept in touch with me and the tile supplier until we got it installed. He and his staff were very responsive and we have the beautiful kitchen I envisioned. A few weeks after the project was done, I dropped a heavy cake dome on the floor and chipped a tile, Mike came over as promised and replaced it and when I called Mark to find out the charge he said "don't worry about it." I highly recommend Kitchen and Bath Studios for their skill and integrity. Unfortunately my overall experience with this company was not good. The overall reason is that they've got more business than they need so they can take as long as they want, pick and choose their customers and be as inflexible as they like. After spending 5 months, countless hours and $150 on samples with them, their unreasonable contract terms killed our deal. Details: 1) Speed: I first made contact with them in June this year for a kitchen remodel after they were recommended by Pacific Sales in Escondido. They promised to get my order in by the end of July so that cabinets could be installed in September. I was gung ho to get through the design phase but quickly found that things move quite slowly with them: The basic design took months and then subsequent changes, that would normally be done in a few hours, took weeks. They rely on design changes being done by someone in Minnesota at Crystal Cabinets and do not use CAD themselves. Concept designs were driven by myself since they don't do this part of it (or at least they didn't for me). From my concept drawing/design, the owner would make his own hand drawing then go back to Crystal Cabinets and get a quote that typically took 1 to 2 weeks. At this point the final drawing from Crystal still had to be made and that could take another 2 days to 3 weeks. All very slow, inefficient and prone to errors. So, from first contact to the point of having a design accurate enough to bid took them roughly 5 months. To be fair some of the time was used to accommodate changes but doing an apples to apples comparison to several other bidders, what previously took about 2 weeks for others, took these guys 3 months. 2) Inflexible: shame on me for not asking a fundamental question up front but after the 5 months of design work was done and we were finally getting to the contract phase, I was shocked to find out that one of the terms of their contract was that they want 96% of their money up front before they've even SET FOOT on your property to do any work. I tried to reason with them that this demand was unreasonable and didn't protect me. I even offered a compromise that before they'd started they'd get 75% of the total contract. I was only asking for what was reasonable to protect me and what every expert recommends one do when entering a contract with a builder. There was only about $8000 more that I asked to be held back for what was expected to be a 4 day installation. Their response? The owner ignored me for over a week then finally when I pressed him on it he emails me as follows "We did receive your email on payments and have discussed it among the owners and have decided not to go forward doing business with you on your kitchen project." So I guess they have enough business to find customers who are willing to just trust them and pay them 100% up front. Being burned before and also hearing many similar horror stories from others I do not think that this would be a wise thing to do. Every expert recommends to hold back enough so that you can hire someone else to do the work if your contractor fails to complete it. Contractor are people too and they get sick, quit, go out of business, have financial, personal or family issues all the time, even with the best of intentions at the outset. So by paying 100% up front I'd be exposing myself financially to about $11,000 of risk but more importantly the stress of not having a kitchen for as long as it got drawn out for....it just didn't make any sense...nor did it make any sense that they'd expect me to take all this risk for them. It made me wonder what they'd be asking once they had my money.... 3) Customer service: I was impressed that they've in general got someone that answers the phone and is polite. The owner, Mark, is pretty hard to get a hold of sometimes though. He doesn't give out a cell phone number and often doesn't return calls or emails. You have to work with him but he's only available once a week or sometimes less. 4) Design: Despite not doing their own CAD and being slow, they do get the design job done. I've given Mark a star for his good attention to detail. He was able to flush out some of the design details. The company they use for cabinets somewhat limits your choices sometimes so you end up making compromises to fit into the cookie-cutter choices that they offer. read more

Beware of investing your money with this outfit. As long as you are generating new business and paying on time you can maybe get results. Mark installed defective kitchen cabinets with a lifetime warranty but didn't have the time of day or muscle to get the Cristall company in Minneapolis MN to honor their lifetime guarantee promise. After five months of frustrating non-communication and unreturned phone calls from Mark, I contacted the Minnesota company directly and the field representative handled what Mark didn't have time for. Mark installed a drawer incorrectly which caused water damage under the sink and since the warranty did not cover water damage he wanted nothing to do with an easy solution of using the remnants from the defective cabinet scraps would have been an easy fix. read more

After cleaning up my e-mails from a few years back, I was reminded of the horrible work done by this company. We were left with a string of problems, including some electrical issues which were downright dangerous. When I gave the long list of issues to Mark, he replied that he was booked with other jobs. Meant to write this a couple of months ago, but glad to write it now after our job has been completed for 5 months. Can't understand the negative reviews as our experience was very good. Got Mark's name from one friend and another from a neighbor, both of whom raved out the quality and the value. Nevertheless I also got two other bids just to verify. One bid was VERY high (Remodel Works in Poway) and Mark's was about 5% higher than the other company, but I chose Mark based on my two personal references. Got a clearly detailed bid, progress payments clearly documented, communication was great and job finished EXACTLY on time. Mark and crew had to work around MY flooring guys who took 11 days on a 5 day job but he pulled it off with no complaints. Job was remodeling two baths, kitchen updates, lighting upgrades etc. That size job and slightly bigger is right in his sweet spot I think. The inevitable upgrades and changes I made were reasonably priced and communicated to me before work began. Here's a clue to his reputation: His tile setter has been working with him for over 30 years and his fully licensed subcontractor doing electrical and plumbing has worked for him pretty much full time for 15+ years. So ignore those poor reviews and call Mark at Kitchen and Bath Studios. You'll be happy you did. read more

I was shocked to read some of the negative reviews about this company as I found them absolutely wonderful to work with. The design process great - some creative ideas I hadn't considered - and they were extremely patient with my indecision/changes during that process. Prior to any work beginning, I was given a contract that spelled out everything, including payment deadlines. One of the review I read stated that they had to pay 96% of the cost up front - so far from the truth (at least in my case) and I wonder why anyone would sign a contract that required most of the payment up front! They began the job on time and I can't believe how smoothly it went. Jessie and Frank were awesome and everything went right on schedule. Mark would stop by randomly when he thought about something that might be a concern or need to be done differently; he wanted to make sure that the process went well. I talked with 5 contractors prior to selecting Kitchen & Bath and Mark was by far the most thorough, actually had a design person, I got drawings to scale, 3D images, etc. Morgan was so helpful in helping me select my counter top, backsplash, etc.; she really tuned in to my taste and what I wanted to accomplish. Sue in the office was right on with answering any questions we had and she provided friendly and efficient help. All the crew workers were courteous and friendly and knew exactly what they would do each time they showed up. San Diego granite did an outstanding job with our beautiful counter tops and will cut our left over granite into squares we can use in our new project, landscaping. Don't waste your time with this company. My cousin referred me to this company after they remodeled his master bath. I thought the work they did was very nice. We scheduled an appointment with them to look over our master bath which needs an upgrade. Estimator came to the house and we didn't hear back from him. After two weeks I called to get any update and the lady explained that they were VERY busy and there was a stack of estimates on his desk and that mine would go to the top of the pile and he would contact me first thing on Monday. That was more than 3 weeks ago. Still never heard from them. Obviously, they can afford not to have too much business or have no interest in someone that was REFERRED to them. Can you imagine the look on my cousin's face when I told her this? Don't waste your time, because time is too short for all of us. RUN, do not walk away from this company! Man, I tried to like this company. Gave them about a million chances. I like the workers, I like the nice lady who answers the phones, but the main dude Mark has not been good to work with. I hate to say it because I'm sure he's "just busy" as they keep telling me, but in my opinion, there is NO reason to charge someone's credit card without authorization. Even if the job is almost done. Three months after doing that to me, and 6 months after starting the work, the job is STILL not complete at my home! And the best part?! He doesn't call back. EVER. In three months. Here are my issues with the work itself: 1. Sure, they patched the hole they made in the dry wall, but they never came back to paint it. Really? Is that how you roll, people? Just careless. 2. The cabinets have a large gap on one side. You can stick a pinky finger in there. Not good. 3. The trim up top is uneven. (1/2 inch gap on one side of the cabinet, no gap on the other) Tried to fix it with caulk but that is not ok when you pay out the wazoo for custom cabinetry. 4. They have yet to clean up a stain spill that happened on the concrete on my back patio. It is bad. Like dark brown on light concrete bad. So here is the rub - I REALLY like the worker who spilled it, and I have faith that he will take care of it if I contact him directly, but ultimately, the company is responsible. Mark, the man in charge will not even follow up on it with me. 5. There are finger prints in the frosted glass of the cabinets. They made note of it when the doors were installed, but again - not fixed and not on their radar. I will do the honorly thing and change this review if they come through but for God's sake it has been 3 months! read more

They were on time. The work was impeccable. Not a single problem with anything they did. The designer, Morgan, worked with us on bathroom features that we wanted and came up with great ideas of her own. High quality work and materials/suppliers that they use, and the contractors on the job were knowledgeable, friendly and very competent.. We received several estimates and we got a very fair price for exceptional work compared to some of their competitors. The project was on-time and on-budget. Extremely happy with the result. Sorry to hear others here had such bad experience. We are the complete opposite. - Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality -- these are word to describe Mark's team and work. We talked to Remodel Works Bath and Kitchen (Poway), who has good ratings and undoubtedly would deliver a good kitchen, but the pricing was just too high for our budget. We also talked to Regal Concepts and Design (another highly rated company in Angie's List). The price seemed fair but Paul said he could not do my project until 6 months later as he had other commercial projects he was doing. So we remembered talking to Kitchen and Bath Studios back in 2005, when Elizabeth owned it, and she wisely told us to save our money (we did not have enough for the kitchen we wanted) so that we do a kitchen remodel once and not regret it. So we went to speak with Mark Lawson in September 2013(current owner of the company), At first Mark was hard to get a hold of (took a few phone tags) but as soon as we did get a hold of him, he seemed very knowledgeable and confident of the work that needed to be done.The entire project took 10 weeks, including time waiting for city inspector to come and inspect (at which point work halts), materials ordered to arrive, etc. Things were not perfect, but the things that were not were fixable and assurances were made that they would be taken care of. For ex: wrong cabinet doors came (should have been glass) but Mark took care of it. They were replaced in no time. His team (Frank, Ed, Kevin) were professional, polite, and left me a clean home to return to at end of each day. And now those guys are gone, I miss having them, especially when I would leave them a list in the morning of things to do and check, and by the time I come home, they were taken care of. I was spoiled.We love our new kitchen. Everyone who sees it says it came straight from a magazine (I guess all those hours I spent on houzz.com paid off). Mark was very easy to work with. He has a good eye for design. He would let you know what he thinks, but would honor your wishes. He is very practical ("Why get a double oven when you probably won't even use the 2nd oven but maybe 2x a year?" So we opted for a convection microwave oven instead that serves as our 2nd oven.) And usually, I trusted his design ideas and they worked well with my own ideas. His tile guy Chuck is very good -- very patient and is a perfectionist at his trade. And the project expanded into the hallway as well (my idea), and he built us new linen closets out of the space left over from the walk-in pantry. I would definitely save up some money to get him to do maybe a mantel over the fireplaces next, and maybe redo the bathrooms too. :-) Oh and Sue the office manager is easy to talk to and super friendly. So that helps a lot. So 10 weeks for moving a wall, reinforcing beams, doing 5 footings, and redoing the entire kitchen (dropping a new gas line and rerouting water lines) was definitely a welcome surprise, that it did not take longer.
