I have eaten nigh on 100 meals at the Kirkhouse Inn public bar because my husband's grandmother takes us there every second week for a family tea (alas, my waistline...). So believe me when I say that I really know this place and have watched it change for better and for worse over the course of 3+ years' of regular patronage.
The Kirkhouse Inn is currently under interim management, but the menu has been more or less static for several months and it's pretty good at the moment. Tonight I had a tasty lasagne with chips and a gorgeous side of salad. It was great and I'd like to say that I'd get it again, but when I've ordered the same dish in days of yore, it has been bland and forgettable. Because of the lack of steady management, it has been tough to get a reliable dining experience over time at the Kirkhouse. The classic pub fare is always the most dependable here: fish and chips, burgers and steak pie. And the puddings are lovely, especially the sticky toffee pudding.
The only reason the Kirkhouse doesn't get more stars from me is because they lack consistency. Once things settle down under the new management, I may update my review. But for the moment, it's "good today, bad tomorrow?" read more
